It's not a bug and it does have a reason.

There are crocodiles right at the entrance, that often get skipped, but they are still pulled.

So they keep you in combat, but won't follow you, since they can't walk up the stairs.

Kill them right away and you will never have troubles with the door again.

this should be one of the few spots in non-dlc dungeons that should have a join encounter in progress mechanic too, but seems to be spotty lol
    plays PC/NA
    handle @Necrotech_Master
    active player since april 2014

i have my main house (grand topal hideaway) listed in the housing tours, it has multiple target dummies, scribing altar, and grandmaster stations (in progress being filled out), as well as almost every antiquity furnishing on display to preview them

feel free to stop by and use the facilities

It does have it, but someone needs to actually get through the door and pull the boss first. And you can't open doors while actively in combat.

Depends on the door. The game engine supports doors you can open in combat - eg the one in volenfell where the infinite skeletons have on effect on your opening the door.

Too many toons not enough time

Well yes, there are edge cases - outside of dungeons/trials, you can also open doors without fulling leaving combat (just not taking damage long enough). In dungeons, it's also possible to interact with doors if you're in combat but haven't actually engaged the enemies yourself (often happens in RoM when trying to skip rooms).

In any case, though, as far as WS1, VoM, and various "bugs" are concerned - people pull enemies, don't kill them and then blame it on "bugs". General rule of thumb is - you can't open doors while in combat and you shouldn't pull enemies you're not going to kill.

Agreed, that's the source of the issue.

I'd say that the core issue is that players are stuck in combat with mobs that can't path to them, creating situations like this and you can see it in a few other areas where mobs are intentionally skipped.

With the crocodiles, many players aren't "intentionally" skipping them as they are in the water and you generally don't go in there at the start, but they aggro anyway and get stuck under the grates, in a permanent state of aggro, regardless of how far away you run.

There don't appear to be traditional leashes on mobs in dungeons. I'm sure there is a reason, but it leads to situations like this.
