Can't use crates in houses?

I don't recall where i got it, but i have a storage coffer in my inn room, and it didn't take long to fill it up. I went an made a bunch of crates, bags and a nightstand, and NONE of them are usable for storage. Why can't we use them for extra storage?

The only ones that you can use for storage are either bought from the crown store with crowns, bought with writ vouchers from Rolis Hlaalu or his assistant Faustina (can’t remember which), or with tel var in Imperial City sewers.

That explains what, but not why. The game would need to track what you place in a container, or it would not have the same items when you went back to it. Crates, bags, and other containers “in the wild” get new content spawned after you loot them. Storage that remembers its content is special, and requires database support on the server, which is why it’s separate, and costs crowns, vouchers etc.

Several of us have asked for the two types to be combined, so we can purchase wardrobes that will hold wearables, or sacks for ingredients. Right now, it is just general-purpose storage chests.

I did not mention the “why” because I thought it was obvious - they want you to spend crowns to get them.

It has nothing to do with spending crowns, i have all 8 storage boxes and didn't spend a single crown, i played the game and gathered writ vouchers for them.

Considering people with the craft bag for mats, all 8 storage boxes, maxed bank, maxed personal storage, and multiple houses for furnishings all still complains about lack of storage, I'd think the reason is people horde way to much stuff for no reason.

Letting us craft crates and chests to fill 700 slot houses and then fill all those crates, the servers would explode.

I do too but that is the hard way to get them for most people. I assume it is easier for others to just open their wallet and obtain them instantly.

i'd LOVE a wardrobe that could hold all my chars extra casual clothing (the little lvl 1 rp clothes things) It would be great!
Or, even just a storage crate that didnt look like a giant chest. Make some look like a wardrobe. Shouldn't be hard. As it stands, they have basically the same boring appearance for the same slot storage as it is. Would make sense for them, to have at least a wardrobe option. Make some money off the variation.
