Ok... reality check to everyone complaining about how they could possibly not have fixed this bug. The people in this thread can't even agree to what the bug is. For some it is a driver issue, for others CPU priority.

What it comes down to is "pausing for a few seconds" is insufficient information to diagnose the issue and in all likelyhood there is more than one thing going on.

If you are having the issue, try the standard things, disable addons, close all other programs, disable AV, etc. Update all your drivers, not just your video card. Follow the troubleshooting instructions they have published elsewhere in these forums. Gather as much information as you can (DxDiag, etc) then log a case.

Don't assume that a case has been logged by someone else because chances are the reason they are pausing is completely different than the reason you are pausing.

There are /a lot/ of people who are not having this bug, that is not to minimize your pain, but as far as indicators go it means the problem is likely a conflict with some hardware or software on your system or some other environmental factor (network) and they have no way of helping you unless you engage with them with more detail than "fix the 5-13 client hang issue now".

And remember, /every/ game not just MMOs, but /every/ game that isn't on a console has variants of this, check the forums of a game that has been released and there is /always/ a thread like this. It is one of the pitfalls of PC gaming, too many things that can conflict.

I FIXED IT, by finding a guy who fixed it. If you use nvidia, all you need to do is to install the v335.23 Driver released on 3/10/2014, as suggested by Mazeryn on some other forum.

I have been playing for a hour or so with out any problem, it seems to be a real fix for this provlem.
I've had this driver ever since it has been released. I guess I'll just have to try something else, that is if doing a fresh install of the game doesn't fix it.

The client is running on Normal priority. Trying to switch to High gets me a "access denied" message.

Are you running Overwolf, if so try quitting overwolf. There were some problems with overwolf in the beta... I am pretty sure the overwolf folks are working on it.

It is an in-game overlay program that happens to use awesomium... it was just a hunch.

I have this same issue, nothing helps that has been suggested in this thread.

    GTX 780
    i7 3770
    16GB 1666

Only game I'm having issues :/ I created a tech request for this.

I was having this issue as well, however I have fixed it after making a few tweaks to my setup. I'm not sure which one was the actual fix so I will simply list the three changes that I made.

    1. I used the "SET RequestedNumThreads "-1"" and change it to "SET RequestedNumThreads "0" method. Although this didn't seem to have any immediate impact.
    2. Went to the task manager, clicked the processes tab, and changed the eso.exe priority from "normal" to "high." This also didn't have an immediate impact.
    3. Disabled Logitech Gaming Software 8.46, which immediately fixed the issue. However, I have since reloaded Logitech Gaming Software 8.46 and I'm not encountering the same issues.

I'm not sure which fix did it, but one of these helped.

Not sure it matters but there are some more details.

    PC:

Win7 64bit, 8gb, nvidia 760, i5 2600, game installed on an external hdd that is connected over usb 2.0

    Symptoms were:

I had freezes every 10-5000 seconds, 2-4 seconds long and my cpu and gpu usage was about 1% in those 2-4 seconds. See the screenshot that i posted before.

    What i did was:

    1. I reinstalled the game
    2. RequestedNumThreads set to 0
    3. Terminated punkbuster and some other services
    4. Closed launcher after start

But it did not help, what i did next was:

    5. Installing the recommended nvidia driver (clean installation)

After this i played like 5 hours without a single freeze.

Maybe the meant scandisk and defrag?

As for me... Setting the processor priority for eso.exe to high helped

or if you are on EU server /liveeu
    File: UserSettings.txt

Search: SET RequestedNumThreads "-1" and change it to: SET RequestedNumThreads "0"

    And thats it.

Here's what ended up fixing it for me. I have a Samsung SSD - Rapid Mode was enabled. I disabled that and it seemed to help. That is known to cause issues as it caches access into memory. I also disabled Frame Limiting in NVinspector, which sometimes is known to cause stuttering (as it keeps frames in line with the desired setting).

I don't know which of these made the most impact, but after setting both, I have no more stuttering or pauses. The fixes above regarding CPU priority and drivers had no impact on my issue.

Disclaimer: This issue could be caused by different things for different people. Who really knows what this is, but this worked for me. :/

Using: "SET RequestedNumThreads "0"" into my "UserSettings.txt" (Or replacing "SET RequestedNumThreads "-1"" by the former) finnally got rid of the anoying 2-3 seconds freezes that were plaging me and a friend (With quite different machines) since beta.

There are different issues ppl are talking about here. The "freezes" that were affecting me (And my friend):

    - Wasn't affected by graphical quality nor driver nor DirectX version. My game has excellent FPS performance all around.
    - Weren't affected by background processes presence/absence.
    - Happened all around, moving, while browsing inventory/crafting, stopped, inside houses or in the open, even on Dungeons.
    - Their frequency didn't depend on how long the client was on.
    - The only factor we could relate to the frequency of the freezes was the ammount of nearby players. Doesn't matter if I was seeing them or not. On a dungeon or on an isolated zone, I got around 1 freeze each 30m or so. Meanwhile, at peak time on any city hub I got as high as 1 freeze per minute.

This solved the problem for me as well (as well as setting the process priority to high), thank you. I was ripping out my hair, what little was left, not understanding what was wrong. While I don't have the greatest rig in the world, I usually can run most games with high settings without an issue.

I even dropped the graphics settings down to the point where you'd think I was playing Minecraft, not a TES game.

I was about 10 minutes from demanding a refund for the game.

1,000 <3 for you guys in figuring this out.

(My specs in case anyone wants to use my rig as a benchmark as to whether or not you think this will fix your problem...)

    Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1 (7601.win7sp1_gdr.130828-1532)
    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E8400 @ 3.00GHz (2 CPUs), ~3.0GHz

I found a solution for me. The problem was ESO HeadMarkers. I'm playing german version so i don't know whether the problem exists for english one as well. If you have that one installed disable and try wheter it helps.

Anyone getting intermittent 2-3 second freezes? I heard of a "CPU lock" bug, but not sure if that's still an issue.

    i7-950 3ghz
    12GB memory (1600)
    EVGA GTX680 - latest drivers

yes i get this issue too specially in pvp ill be running 100 fps no lag then the client freezes for 3ish seconds fps drops to 0 then it resumes and its been happening more and more frequently i hope this is fixed fast its my only problem so far

Try to skip the /Bethesda.net_Launcher, and run the game directly with, The Elder Scrolls Online EU/game/client/eso.exe. Try to change User settings.txt from SET GraphicsDriver.7 "D3D9" to SET GraphicsDriver.7 "D3D11". It soved most of my problems! Run Bethesda.net_Launcher for updates, close it, then run the game fromeso.exe as Admin.

Has Zenimax EVER commented on this issue? I mean its been happening for at least 6 months.

Yes. They Acknowledged it back in beta.

Guys and Gals. Ill say again. Try running just the Textures on Med. If the problem goes away then great. It worked for me and I had tried all other work arounds. If it doesn't then just put it back.

What operating system and version of OS are you running? What kind of graphics card do you have? Is it integrated or a separate card? Are there any other programs running at the time of crash? The more system details you provide, the more likely they will be able to narrow down the problem.

Thought I would put my two cents in. My system is like Zeronumber's, meaning in the middle of the recommend range. I do have the 650ti (frellin 750ti was intro'd 2 weeks after I bought). Did the txt file swap, and at the same time started killing launcher to boot. Never a problem again (bout a week now).

My mate I run with has full blown i7 with 7xx series Nvidia, and I mentioned and he said he never really had problems, then day after he complained it was locking on him alot. B) I think it just made him aware that wasnt meant to be. SO, soon as I guided him through the same change, he never saw it again either. Didnt really tell him about killing the launcher tho. Hes a little 'dino ish' with the PC so let sleeping dog lie.

Think if anyone and everyone does this, you cant go wrong. Least with the Nvidia card or Intel I reckon?
