Help understanding new Stam/Mag scale changes

I have a max Mag Templar. I think I can now use a 2H weapon ability and it will scale off my Mag. The only downside is I cannot get Mag resources from the 2H heavy attacks - otherwise there is no difference to a Stam build using a 2H ability.

Is that right? What is the downside to using Stam abilities on a max Mag character? Maybe they use Stam resource pool so you cannot cast as much?

TY for any help or advice.

You can pool all your resources into one and have it give increased damage output to all your skills, if you want to use Stamina abilities on a Magicka focused Templar the game won't penalize you for it. For better resource management use Restoring Focus, Repentance, and Werewolf to maximize stamina recovery. There's also tri-recovery jewelry enchants and in the red champion tree, killing mobs that restore stamina and magicka is a big help.

I have hybrid characters that use stamina abilities and sharpened melee weapons on the front bar, then magicka abilities and an Infused Lightning Staff with Hakeijo glyph on the back bar. The playstyle is you alternate between the two rather than focus on one side, so the magicka bar starts first by laying down AOE effects and dots, swap to the melee side to clean the rest up. All of my resource is focused into Magicka.

Yes you cannot cast much stamina skills on a max magica build.
So you need to carefully select what skills you cast.

For example you can use your regular magica templar combos but add the Executioner skill to execute critters or players. When you kill them with 2h ability you restore stamina back.
The possibilities are endless! and don't forget you can have a stamina build too that uses magica skills now.

The advantage is that you can cover the gaps your build is having, for example the stamina builds have access now to better healing, and the magica builds have access to better damage.

Also sets and jewelry enchants that restore both stamina and magica are very powerful now(such as Eternal Vigor set and
Prismatic Recovery glyph), you basically double up your sustain without sacrificing the damage.

Most endgame builds do not rely on heavy attacks to restore resources. In fact, if you are running out of resources and need to heavy attack, that is usually seen as a sign that you want to either tighten up your rotation or add some sources of passive resource recovery. It is almost always the case that slight sacrifices of damage to add recovery are more than made up for by avoiding the damage loss from being locked into slow heavy attacks for part of your rotation. You can also use off-resource skills to indirectly aid recovery. If you replace a 3000 cost magicka DoT/buff skill with a 2500 cost magicka DoT/buff skill in a 10-second rotation, reducing magicka expended by 3000 every 10 seconds is equivalent to adding 600 stamina regen.
