Is the word that came to mind when looking at the contents of the new loot boxes. I know, I know, tastes differ, but there's literally nothing in there that looks remotely appealing to me.

Tastes do vary but I have always felt that way about the loot crate apex mounts too.

My main mount is the one I grinded 17 leads to get, the Dwemer steampunk wolf. IMO, it is far better than any loot crate mount with the matt black segmented look and subtle steam GFX. Even the glowing eyes and your own raised fist GFX when you use the spacebar while standing still is tasteful.

Apex mounts would be more attractive if they were more like that wolf instead of their over the top dayglo look.

The artstyle they use for world building is so very, very different from those neon atrocities. I really like how High Isle looks, and previous zones as well. Feels like things are designed for two different games.

I think a little bit of flare in the radiant apex mounts is ok, but yeah most of all crate mounts, especially these new ones, are way too much for sure.

And yet, if I get the endeavors before this season leaves, I will be getting pretty glowy horse which I'll probably use for a companion while I'm on ridiculous pink gummy horse. And I'll probably pick up at least one of the mounts. Hated most of last crown season too fungusy, but like this one very much. Different tastes make game more fun.

Yeah, I've noticed in a fair number of MMO's that it seems like many of the expensive cash shop items are unappealing to me.

I've never been sure if it's a case where I'm getting old, I'm odd, the people that are more likely to spend in the cash shop are a bit odd, or the people designing the items are a bit odd.

The green jelly bear is just rediculous, I'm very happy for anyone who wants that but look at it. I mean it's still an Elder Scrolls game, there's none of these strange mounts in any other ES game.

There are a lot of lore friendly creatures they could model that would still look cool even without all the flash.

This is the first time in a while something has actually interested me.
[Rant starts here]

It's a bit disgusting how much it would cost me to obtain, especially if I were to spend real money and not seals of endeavors, but that's the norm for ZOS. The only thing I am very unhappy about is that High Isle is not as generous with its rewards compared to previous chapters. There is only one cosmetic available from both of its public dungeons rather than 2 cosmetics like in the previous chapters. They could have easily taken some of the crown crate cosmetics and put them out there as quest and achievement rewards or otherwise cool insentives.
But this is what the gaming industry is now. Unless they are outlawed in the US or the EU, lootboxes are here to stay and will keep making gameplay rewards more and more boring. Why make a good product when you can make a mediocre product and sell good cosmetics to already paying customers?

Champion points don't affect crown crates.

Even the things that are supposed to be more simple looks off and doesn't blend well and looks almost badly photoshopped in.

Like the butterfly hairclip. The butterfly is so ridiculously saturated and textured it almost glows. If I were to add a butterfly hairclip I would probably make it like a filigree jewelry looking one. Pretty and more fitting to the setting, than what looks like some plastic.

The new body markings also looks weird. As well as sufffering from the usual awful mirrored symmetrical look that markings only seem to come in now.

Honestly Ive felt this way about them for a while now. Seems like now a days its nothing but a bunch of tattooes and a single outfit style parsed out into 7 pieces to fill out the options. Occasionally I'll find one or two things in the boxes I might want but I always remind myself that I dont care to spend a bunch of money on a ton of crap ill never use or ever look at again. Im glad to have the endeavor system now because when I want that 1 item I can just pluck it out and move on and never look at that season of crates again.

The thing that gets me about these glowy mounts...is that they don’t exist anywhere in the game except as mounts.

I think you're thinking of the CP passive that applies to getting better quality loot out of treasure chests - crown crates are not in any way affected by CP. The odds on them are equally low for all of us.

I liked one of the costumes and one of the mounts, and I think this season is better than the last, but since a few seasons ago I'm not buying crates anymore. If I have seals or gold to get the via gifting I might get an item I like, but regardless of aesthetics, I think it's terrible they're putting all the unique designs in crates or gem exclusives, leaving 1-2 of whatever left-over designs they have for direct purchase at the store every few months. It should be the complete opposite: the intricate designs should be in the store, and any extra in the crates for people who want additional things.

They know their market, and they hire very savvy monetizers who know very well what sells, and why.

Apex mounts are aimed at the people willing to gamble hundreds of dollars on the chance to get one. So, when they do finally get one, it had better look like it is worth that amount of money. Flashy, look at me.

So while they don't fit the ES world one bit, and may not appeal to a large demographic, it is a cash cow guaranteed to generate large sums of monthly income.

The apex mounts often elicit a good laugh from me. Garish is just the word. Especially the ones which are on fire are amusing. When a player who has maxed out the speed skill and has major gallop speeds by on one of those, I'm always reminded of a saying of my mother tongue: "Fire under the tail" - meaning undue haste. The neon-coloured disco mounts are also quite an eyesore. On the other hand, some of the top mounts are very good-looking, but that just highlights how kitschy the majority of them are. The lower rank mounts are usually much better aesthetically.

And as a previous poster said, there's a strange disconnect between those mounts and the rest of the game's art design. The majority of the costumes and outfit styles are stylish but not overblown, the environment design is done with (mostly) very good taste - and then we have those WoW-esque cartoon mounts. It's not a big thing, but it hurts the aesthetic feel of the game somewhat. Toning the colours and effects down a bit would look better. But well, in the end I guess we must accept that video games aren't designed to be pieces of high renaissance art with every detail polished to fit with each other.

It just helps me remember why I never have and never will buy crates.

Garish indeed but I'm happy for anyone who likes them and got one. We're all going to see things we like and don't like in an mmo.

a lot of the crown store/crate stuff definitely looks like absolute garbage but the sad reality is most people don't really have a good taste for fashion and will use whatever is the most rare or difficult to acquire items just because they are rare and difficult to acquire

I didn't like the last ones. These ones are medium. I view bad crates as a blessing. Saves me the pressure of buying them.
