What to do with YEARS of unused crafting bag mats...?

hello ESO community: I've been around since 2013 beta, but for some odd reason (probably cuz SWG crafting spoiled me) i've practically never crafted anything in this game barely at all. Sad, i know. :/

Therefore, due to random harvesting + hireling mails + decon'd gear, i now find myself with 8+ years (or whenever Crafting was introduced, i forget which year it was...2015? ) worth of stockpiled materials....yet totally clueless as to where/how/when to 'use' them lol

1. Should i just SELL them bit by bit? (and if so, what are the rare mats to sell nowadays? )
2. Or should i just start crafting stuff like the Skyrim is falling? (and if so, which items & motifs are most valuable? )
3. Also, what quantity of a certain resource would be considered "a heckuva lot" ? Like, 90k diamonds, for example?

Thanks.
(edited, meant *90k not 9k )

Selfishly, you should hold them unless you need the gold. If you liquidate, your gold will be worth less and less each day due to inflation. If you blow it all on gear now, it will be useless in 2-3 patches. One of the best ways to combat inflation in this game is to hold your wealth in commodities like Wax, Alloy, Rosin, etc.

I have well over 9 figures of wealth in my crafting bag. I almost liquidated it a few years back. Really glad I didn't because its all worth way more now than it was back then. Had I sold, the pile of gold would not have increased in value, but my crafting bag is worth more every day. I have more than enough gold, so I have no real incentive to sell my portfolio of mats.

In fact, there is a strong argument to hold the vast majority of wealth in gold mats, so even buying stuff that is at or slightly below market is a good idea, as it will almost certainly be worth more tomorrow. When inflation is out of control, you should keep as little of your wealth as possible in raw currency (gold), but obviously, you do want some liquidity. I would estimate that probably 25-30% of my in game wealth is in gold. In all honestly, I think its probably too much if being 100% objective. Had I dumped 30 or 40 mil into gold mats a few years back and stuck them in my crafting bag, I would be wealthier than I am today.

I have a similar issue with crowns. I have around 100k of them. I have thought about selling, but why? The gold to crown ratio goes up every few weeks and shows no signs of slowing down. If I sell them today at say 1500:1 and the gold just sits there, I am worse off then selling them at say 2000:1 in a few months when perhaps there is something I really need to buy with gold.

You need a Million of each crafting item, for them to be "a heckuva lot"

Do your writs it's worth it. Addons make it pretty smooth. If you sell, check the Tamriel Trade Centre to get idea of prices, join a beginner trader friendly trade guild and get advice. A trade guild may have some minimum weekly sales or pay a fee so you need to know the requirements and rules. Even a casual like me can make millions mostly from harvesting, crafting and trading.
I myself have like on order of 30k or less of base mats I use for daily writ crafting. That would be not much.

Sometimes people sell them for a deal and then others resell them.

ahhh ok , yeah i guess i've sort of avoided writs all these years ( mostly cuz i been PVP'ing Cyrodiil or Imp City 95% of the time )

Yeah our latest 'public guild trader bid' didn't go through past few weeks, so i might just have to find a hardcore seller type player to deal with....hmm....

The close to worthless stuff, like food mats, can be sold to basic vendors for what actually adds up to significant gold if you have enough of them.

Let's Amp that answer up. Get your provisioning leveled up so you get 4 servings from each one you make. Find the recipes you already know, both food and drink, green ones, that show you can sell them for 5 gold each.

If you make 4 per, you will earn 20 gold.

If you do this at a cooking fire near a merchant, you can max out the amount you make with a click, then mass sell it to the merchant. Do this until you have at least 500 left of individual ingredients.

If you have that many provisioning mats you will make bank!

My main toon WAS a tall and foxy redhead - now she has been gamma-irradiated and has green skin and black hair. 3 other characters I only use for writs. Can't be bothered to create multiple toons - EXCEPT now my WW is getting spooled up for Cyrodiil - Blood For The Pact! IRL cranky sometimes redhead chick at large in Las Vegas, NV

Unless your in desperate need for gold I would just leave them in the craft bag.

Even if you wanted gold you would be better off giving daily writs a try before you start clearing out your craft bag, it will be too late to realize you needed something when you have already sold it and your not likely to get much back for the same price you were paid later on.

Or just keep them since they don't harm anything....

you can make pretty good gold by selling crafted poisons to the NPC merchant. Just make sure you're getting 16 poisons for every 2 alchemy ingredients.

Well if you're playing the game in a balanced way (i.e. doing a little bit of everything), you should be using the vast majority of the materials. Keep them.

I downloaded Tamriel Trade Centre add on and it suggested lower prices than I 'd been selling stuff for. Bit embarrassing really

you could just keep it all liquid in mat form and sell it in batches whenever you need gold for something. thats what i do. no point in having tons of gold laying around if you dont use it. this takes advantage of whatever inflation is going on.

i dislike doing daily writs (darn you new leads forcing me to do them)

i tend to prioritize selling alchemy mats, i never craft pots/poisons and a lot of those mats sell for a lot of gold, i also prioritize provisioning mats because i virtually never craft food either (the only food ive started crafting is colovian war tortes to help level alliance ranks)

other easy to get ones that sell for a lot would be hakeijos for me, i sell them because its not hard to farm what i need if i needed them

i also sell chromium plates, but i dont sell any other tempers

selling mats makes up at least 50-75% of my total gold income

i have my main house (grand topal hideaway) listed in the housing tours, it has multiple target dummies, scribing altar, and grandmaster stations (in progress being filled out), as well as almost every antiquity furnishing on display to preview them

feel free to stop by and use the facilities
