Bug: Ascendant Magus glitch

Hi all, I don't know if anyone else got this glitch but I'm doing the Ascendant Storm quest for the High Isle dlc. Im currently at the part where you fight Magus but I can't kill him. I get him down to 80K hp and then he becomes invulnerable and his two lava monsters comes and fights me and emeric. But when I kill those lava monsters, theres a growing red circle expanding from magus. Then the queen gives emeric a blue shield and I think she is suppose to give me one as well so I can press X and kill him. But I never get one and the circle grows until I die. Am I missing a step or is this a glitch. Anything helps thanks!

I had the same bug. Queen Ayrenn was shouting at me to get "close to the magus and brace," but nothing triggered. The Magus' AOE expanded until I could no longer defend against it while also trying to figure out where to stand. The Magus was shielded, and Ayrenn's shield never came on. After I died, the Magus was reset to 80% health (the two initial vul'kesh were dead). When we fought him down to last gasp again, I ran in close and this time Ayrenn's shield worked. I have no idea why it didn't work the first time and did work the second.

Did submit an in-game bug report as well.

Did you run at him as soon as the vulkesh died or did you wait until his aoe grew?

The second time? I'm honestly not sure. I was frustrated, and I just wanted to get through the fight and see if it bugged again or if I'd need to give up until a patch. I think I waited until Ayrenn delivered her line. This time, the blue shields around Emeric and my companion were visible so I ran in.

It's so frustrating. Tried everything from abandoning the quest to trying to kill magus before he's invulnerable. Thanks for the reply tho.

It looks like there's also often a bug when finishing the fight and exiting the castle. Have to make sure you go out the indicated door, not the one you entered by, and even then maybe sometimes doesn't work. I wish you luck! It's been a buggy launch.

I just did this fight for the first time and it bugged out on me. The magus kept falling through the ground and whenever he surfaced, he was invulnerable. Because he could damage me and I couldn't do anything to him, he eventually killed me and reset. Fortunately, when I initiated the fight again, he didn't become invulnerable and I was able to kill him.

I'm not crazy about fights when NPCs keep yelling at you to do this and do that. I find it cheesy, and when in the middle of a battle with effects firing and multiple creatures coming at you, it can be confusing. I'd much rather have straight up fights without all the flash. I don't really feel like I've defeated the baddie when I'm forced to cheese it with special attacks.

ETA: The magus bugging out happened before any of the NPCs did anything. Irnskar hadn't gotten his ballista or whatever ready, and Ayrenn wasn't yelling at me to use her special attack. It bugged out as soon as I'd killed the first wave of those fiery creatures that being with 'v'. The magus then started falling through the floor, surfacing and damaging me, rinse and repeat. He was invulnerable and not targetable. He didn't have the usual red outline around him.
