I thought I was so hot playing ToT on the PTS... never met an NPC I couldn't beat.

I've played two PVP matches so far since going live and lost both!

Still killing it... just in a different way... haha.

How's everyone else going?

I think it is like with any other activity - practice makes perfect - I might challenge other players at some point in time, but certainly not this month - and I need to acquire the other decks first. Not having all decks and gaining experience with those, would always leave me at a disadvantage.

Haven't played a live human yet and not sure I'm interested in doing so. I've played a few games against NPCs. Mixed bag, won some, lost some. Because a game takes so long to play, ToT will be a "when I don't feel like doing anything else" activity.

There should game levels for the challenges with different winning p0int totals: novice-30; intermediate -35; expert-40. I think the matches are too long. Also, there needs to be a "Concede " button.

You should hit escape and concede.

And for new players, ONLY play the npc's. You can get all the way to masters just playing NPC's. Unless you are in top tier the rewards are lame at best. Only a few really good players are going to dominate this game. I saw on a tips site where this player is not going to level so he can "smash" players that don't know what they are doing.

One thing: Your level does apply to all characters. So, this will limit very experienced players from constantly being in lower ranks.

Personally I was looking forward to it but the tutorial is confusing (like, it literally doesn't explain anything about the game, it just tells you to go along and find out), the written tutorials aren't any better and I've yet to find a guide that properly explains how the game works. A shame, I was really interested but I can't figure out it lmao hopefuly I won't miss any interesting reward

I really like it. I spent my two last evening playing and I really enjoyed myself. I’m quite surprised that so many people seem to have trouble figuring it out. I don’t play card games but I still got it with the tutorial.

I will respectfully disagree that it isn't a good time to play against other players. If that is a person's personal choice that is one thing, however there are PVP dailies and you do get experience when you play against other players as it is vastly different than playing an NPC.

Everyone is new currently and trying to figure out the game so imo it is a perfect time to take the chance and join the queue, as I believe you will be matched with someone of similar level. If you lose it is ok. Take the opportunity to learn from the winner and why they are winning. Then you can practice maybe a new strategy on an NPC and then try another PVP match.

Although I have a basic understanding of the game, I lose more PVP matches than win. I make silly mistakes but who cares as in life this is how we learn and get better. We are all new to the game, although some may have picked it up faster than others, there are many that are all trying to figure it out still. I think playing both NPC and PVP in a balanced manner will help develop a balanced strategy through time playing. NPC do not behave like a person and what works on NPCs do not work on people from what I am finding out.

Playing 'casual' rather than 'ranked' when starting out may be a better option for learning, then having people avoid PVP altogether as this doesn't teach them the basics of PVP play when people are still on a novice level.

I would hope most people would understand that others are learning, and should have every right to earn their daily PVP reward whether they are new to the game or experienced.

I'm mostly disappointed that playing against friends or guildies nets you...nothing. Not even progress for the achievement? I mean I get it, playing a friend is its own reward and all but man, having to play only randoms or NPCs to progress seems totally not social.

My guild had plans for card game night, so everyone could hang out, play and level up. It looks like that's not the case. I hope I'm wrong.

Maybe you could find a friend/guildmate to either play a few games with you and explain things as you go, or ask someone to stream a few games and explain stuff that way? Some people learn better by watching than by doing/reading, after all.

Personally I find it super fun and will definitely be losing hours to flinging cards wildly at peoples' faces haha.

That could be true. I've played four games so far and the last one was the fastest (but still took about 20 mins).

Unfortunately I'm already feeling a little bored with the game. Maybe as I play more challenging NPCs and see more cards, that will change. I guess I'll see.

Also, I completed my first daily by winning the three games and expected a decent reward for that. Instead I got 3 green reward boxes. What's the point of spending triple the time to get three green boxes? I thought it would work like the Dark Brotherhood and Thieves Guild quests, where the colour of the rewards box changes if you do more than the minimum.

And so far, the rewards for spending 20-30 mins on a game are underwhelming. 40 gold along with trash? Not worth the time when I can spend a fraction of that doing something else that brings in more gold and better loot.

Been having more fun with it than I expected. So far, I’ve won more than I’ve lost. Some games just have lousy cards on the table and aren’t as fun. But majority of the games I’ve played kept me at the edge of my seat — especially towards the end.

Enjoying it more as I pick up a few details from trial and error vs NPC's ( tutorial doesn't give nearly enough info )

Have done the NPC trio challenge at the novice level - just broke the 900 points to level up today - and I too was disappointed with the lackluster rewards - opportunity cost and all.

The RNG on the NPC's can drive you crazy, had one game where the opponent must have been dealt 8+ agent cards. I watched the tavern, only 2 showed up - one I bought , the other I tossed, spent most of the game staring at 3-5 agent cards in play across from me. Burned my power removing the line up of Taunts. Of course, I lost.

Am attempting to gain a new deck, the one from questing and killing stuff in High Isle and I realize that the rewards of playing are kinda upside down from previous "new" content. Take Antiquities, yes grindy to level but in the end can earn Mythics and furniture items that make the rest of the game "better" for the player. Same as other new features have done.

Until now : we play the regular game to increase our decks to make TOT "better" but is there any part of it that gives us something new or "more" at the end (Master level, all decks, etc) ?

If there is please share :)

If there is not, then why not ? I can appreciate the entertainment/competitive aspects of the game but if it doesn't give back to the main game in a new and rewarding way - ouch. It's a huge time-sink that takes me away from Tamriel related activities.
I imagine there is a substantial player segment with rather limited time to play per day or week - they may not be enticed to spend the time on TOT to even learn the details enough to enjoy it and get "hooked" if the rewards are not tangible.

I agree with this. I think the rewards are lackluster compared to how long it takes to play a match. Even random veteran DLC dungeons can be faster than a game of ToT and actually contribute to the overall game. ToT does absolutely nothing to make ESO better, and I think that's why I dislike it the most. Sure you can get transmute crystals, but they aren't more than doing dungeon dailies and those take more than half the time AND you get better rewards(gear, monster heads, possibility for motifs or leads)

With ToT I've gotten... What I would normally get looting a random zone chest and then like 5 or so if some low tier crafting materials. Makes it really hard to invest the time into it when the time-reward disparity is garbage.

And losing gets you no transmute crystals and no experience because most of the start of ToT is just learning about how luck based it is.

So I am not seeing a "fun" aspect to this. I'm seeing a convoluted and counterintuitive card game that seemingly has taken time away from the main game to make something far worse than Elder Scrolls Legends ever was. And in turn I feel like High Isle is lacking in alot of aspects that couldve been added upon if they just didn't add a terrible card game.

Maybe I'm an outlier in my opinion, but I felt like ranting. I love this series, usually moves aren't ridiculous but this one was just straight up disrespectful to players and their time.

First I will mention that when playing Witcher 3, I would always start out saying to myself "today I am going to do some questing" and 99.99% of the time I ended up playing Gwent, a game for which the rewards were basically nothing!!

I played my very first ToT games early yesterday evening and finally dragged myself away at 3.00am! Safe to say I found it pretty engaging, I was also pleasantly surprised by the rewards, although I did question whether the loser's bags were actually better as they seemed to contain less " trash" items.

I cannot say for sure how much the luck of the cards might start to annoy me, I'm sort of hoping there will be strategdy's I can employ to circumvent bad draws. I think I lost 3 games and one of those was definitely down to bad cards but I also think I was slow to notice my opponents moves.

Time will tell but for my first taster I enjoyed it a lot! 👍

I just want to point out that simply because something doesn't appeal to you doesn't mean it doesn't bring anything to the game, that it was a waste of time to develop, that it's pointless, or anything else. Different people like different things; a lot of people seem to think PvP doesn't offer anything of value or substance and is a waste of developer time and effort. But the people who like PvP surely don't think so.

So while it's completely fine to not be interested in or engaged by any particular part of the game, can people stop saying it's disrespectful to the players or whatever? Plenty of people are enjoying it and don't think it's anything that outlandish at all.

I never said that, I pointed out reasons WHY I disliked it and gave my argument on why I dislike it.

I segwayed into saying that it was disrespectful of players time BECAUSE the rewards are so lackluster. I think you missed the part of comparison in my comment. They have two options, make the rewards more appealing or ignore player feedback. Even if I dislike the ToT game, they'd gain some respect if they balanced the time spent with rewards gained. Sometimes you spend 30 minutes in a ToT match only to get absolutely nothing of value. Sometimes I'm not even sure transmute crystals are a guaranteed drop. It's disrespectful to put something like this into a players lap and expect them to eat it up like a chew toy.

I get why people like it, it's something "new and engaging" but it covers up a lot of the issues the main game has by using a minigame to focus on this chapter instead of idk improving upon a formula. It's a cop out to fix and improve upon the main portions of the game.

I respect others opinions, my original comment came off a bit discombobulated for a number of reasons and I apologize for that. My opinion is that I'd prefer if they added more main-game content in the form of trials, skill lines, class additions, or new weapons. The addition of one trial and two dungeons so far has been good, but it feels short lived. But maybe that's a matter of perspective idk.

Regardless of what they are adding, I think there's still a lot of stuff to play even if they don't add something like I suggest. I'd dislike ToT alot less if the rewards were better, too.

And to be completely fair, there are alot of bigger issues in this game than ToT, which I think is miniscule compared to those.

It’s a paid feature, are you saying people shouldn’t complain if they dislike something they paid their real life dollars for?

The card game should’ve been a free QoL update.

Still, that tutorial seriously need an optional extended version. (I get that some ppl aren't that interested in spending 30-40 minutes in a tutorial, but others need a deeper explanation in order to actually understand what's going on)
