Maintenance for the week of December 23:
• NA megaservers for maintenance – December 23, 4:00AM EST (9:00 UTC) - 9:00AM EST (14:00 UTC)
• EU megaservers for maintenance – December 23, 9:00 UTC (4:00AM EST) - 14:00 UTC (9:00AM EST)

Skeptical at first, but enjoyed it.

this post is for people who jumped on the "card game bad" bandwagon. Here's my opinion after i played this a lot on the pts. and my verdict is that i had a really good time.

yes it's a card game instead of actual combat content like a new melee magicka weapon, which definitely sucks, but for what it is, i've enjoyed it a lot.

Purple and Black are my favourite deck picks.

Give it a try because there's a year until the next chapter.

That is the beauty of ESO, there are pretty much no restrictions in what you can do on which level. Of course some stuff can be too hard, but you are not held back to try. And with Tales of Tribute we are basically nearly all newbies. So best time to dive into it now.

Tales of Tribute got tons of hate but it’s not related to how good or bad the card game itself is. There’s two main criticisms:
    1. ToT is not a typical extension onto ESO, but rather a whole separate experience. You’re playing a real card game meaning if you don’t like card games, by default you probably will not want to play this one either. That’s a huge portion of players who gain nothing from this feature.
    2. There have been zero new abilities for actual gameplay/characters in this game since the Necromancer in 2019. Players hoped for a new class, new weapon, new skill line for each existing class, third morphs, etc.... a way to spice up gameplay after 3 years of not getting anything truly new. Whether any of this is currently possible from a technical standpoint, who knows, but this is what would hype players up.

If last year gave us new combat skill lines of some sort, there would be very little complaints about Tales of Tribute from the community. A good pattern would be 1 year for a gameplay enhancement chapter, 1 year for a new feature chapter, repeat.

I’m kind of in that boat too - I think the idea of a card game is actually awesome to see in the world of ESO, but I would have way rather had a new gameplay option this time around. Will definitely give ToT a try but ofc am on console so still need to wait :(

I know this is probably a bit unrelated @ZOS_Kevin but when a ton of wardens gave feedback on the pts this cycle we were utterly ignored. There were legitimate issues with the changes that were made but we were completely sidelined every week. I'm sure you're probably not allowed to say anything about the team's thoughts on that but a lot of wardens really feel hopeless right now because we spent several weeks trying to raise the alarm only for us to feel like we were talking to a brick wall.

So, I played the game now - tutorial was comprehensive and really good, and done by a Bosmer with a strong scotish accent, I just love that accent. It is easier to play than I thought it would be and I am pretty certain, that I will enjoy it. I see as well that it makes sense to look for new decks and upgrade cards. Victory rewards are pretty good as well.

It might take a while to win people over, but Tales of Tribute has certainly the potential to do that. In a way those being so against it would just have to give it a serious chance with an open mind. I'm still a little slow because I am not used to the cards yet, but I fully understand the rules now, which is quite helpful :) rest will be practice, I suppose.

So yeah, great game, ZOS, this will be fun to play. And thank you for taking the risk to implement something non-combat related. So far I think as well that the balance between chance and strategy is quite good - there is no guarantee to win, even for a good player, but he might have the better idea, which cards go well together and how to counter contract agents - they can be pretty bad, like I had one against me, which hindered the conversion of power to prestige - but I could counter all agents thrown at me before they could get into effect.

Yeah, once getting the hang of it (for those 4 starter decks that is, I have nothing better yet), the game is increasingly more exciting to play. When you start to grasp certain tactical moves and so on. There is still a good amount of luck involved, but it can be influenced by those tavern-manipulative cards, which can remove cards from the tavern to be replaced by others.

The agent and contract agent system is a little hard to understand at first, whilst at the same time being the most vital to understand as well - that some agents can block your progress totally, if they are not removed quickly, for example. I wonder how many don't recognize, that their power points are no longer converted to prestige at the end of a turn - and loose by this very reason.

i had an insanely good game against someone (added them as a friend later) the game got so damn close, i was winning by prestige (purple/green build) and they started going for patrons which i wasn't paying too much attention to. as soon as i saw that they were nearing victory with their yellow build due to additional patron interactions i immediately had to switch gears and i started to panic. i managed to win just barely making sure to pay attention to patrons and always interact with them every turn. it was probably because of a great turn earlier in the game where i had a ton of purple in my cooldown pile and i managed to shift them all to the drop of my draw with a green card, managing to draw a huge turn. it was because of that turn that i managed to get ahead. i think i only won because i was able to get a disgusting amount of money with a disgusting purple combo turn, and then dumped the rest of the money into duke of crows. was exhilarating.

The thing with the Duke of Crow is, that you should not use it too early in the game - once he is favoring you, you cannot use him anymore - and your gold piles up towards the end of the game - sometimes you can make 20+ prestige with this gold to power to prestige conversion (if no foreign agent stands against it, that is).

I tend to get into the range of 35 first and then when my gold piles up use the duke to push me into the 45-50 range. I had one match though, where my opponent got really strong the moment he had to deal with a contested win - that was a really long sequence of cards he played - and managed to get to 27 power - managed to overturn me. That went on for a 2 more rounds until I was defeated by 1 point - and I was so nicely in the lead until he played that sequence giving him 27 power in one turn.
