Issue with Elemental Weapon skill duration and travel time

I've tested the issue with the Elemental Weapon morph of Imbue Weapon skill using an inferno staff. I'm unsure if this issue would apply to other morphs or with different staves, or if this isn't a bug and is working as intended. I assume not as the skill states "causing your next Light Attack used within 2 seconds". When I use the Elemental Weapon skill and cast a light attack within 2 seconds, if the travel time of the attack (w/ inferno staff) exceeds the 2 second duration, then the damage and effect are not applied. Any clarification would be appreciated. Thank you
