I hate it too, but it's because of the monotone colour scheme and same enemies again and again. The quests and characters are nice, map I agree is confusing as the quest marker is not always a great help.

Clockwork City, like many zones, takes time to become familiar with as far as getting around. Once you spend enough time in the zone, you start to get better at finding your way around more easily. But until then, yes, you're likely to go a little bonkers trying to navigate the zone itself, as well as all of the separate locations within it. Once you finally do get the hang of finding your way around, the zone is actually very fun (imho).

Clockwork City... absolutely beautiful and unique. My favourite zone and favourite music in ESO. I bought Observatory Prior and decorated it. Also, i love melancholic atmosphere in this zone and i believe it's not for everyone. And LORE, of course. Sotha's personal story... extremely dramatic. You know the truth about him and Tribunal (always was mad about it since TES 3 Morrowind), but still... can't resist his wisdom.

The part of Tamerial that hate is Cold Harbour. It's beyond dreary. It all looks the same and I have trouble finding things. It's the only part I actively avoid.

I find Clockwork city looks meh. Although it's a breeze to navigate and I like the dallies there.

Not sure about the map structure, but I do hate it because of it's nature. The nature that is not natural, the out-of-place nature, the artificiality, the constant feeling of dead cold brick inside a glass jar, the alienating foreignness of this whole place that just feels like it doesn't belong to neither Nirn nor Aetherius.
One of the two of us definitely has gone mad. It only remains to define whether this one is the whole world or just me.

But that's the entire point/backstory/lore of the zone: a mechanical copy of Nirn.

I think the zone is incredibly well done actually....but for some reason I also really do not like to play in the zone. I think it's that everything is mechanical or something. It's weird, because the zone is really well done. I just can't stand the "feel" of it for some reason. The sound the factorums make when they walk annoys me intensely for some reason. It's almost worse than goblins barking. And I really don't like that there is a costume that turns people into factorums so it's like they escaped Clockwork City or something.

I can't deny the zone is actually really well done, I just don't like it for some reason.

But to each their own. We have lots of different flavors of zones in ESO and that's one of the things that makes it such a great game. We have lots of other zones to play in.

The terrain is tricky from a riding to different places perspective, the slope/cliffs kind of remind me of Elsweyr in some places, and also the uniform lighting can be tiring on the eyes after a while, but other than that, CWC is pretty much perfect as far as DLCs go, and personally, my favourite one. Maybe you just don't like the aesthetic, and that makes completing the main quest a drag, but that's ok 'cause everyone has areas in the game they don't like.

    Favorite Foods and Potions

    • Parse Food for PvE:(DPS) Ghastly Eye Bowl (increases Max Magicka by 4592 and Magicka Recovery by 459 for 2 hours).
    • Gold/Purple Food for Sorc PvP and Meme Tanking:(PvP) Clockwork Citrus Filet (increases Max Health by 3326, Health Recovery by 406 [useful if stage 1 vampire], Max Magicka by 3080, and Magicka Recovery by 338 for 2 hours). Witchmother's Potent Brew (Increase Max Magicka by 2856, Max Health by 3094, and Magicka Recovery by 315 for 2 hours.
    • Trash Potions when feeling cheap: Regular CP150 Essence of Magicka pots that I obtain frequently from playing the game or Crown Tri-Restoration Potion obtained from dailies.
    • Crafted Potions: Essence of Spell Critical (Bugloss, Lady's Smock, and Water Hyacinth). Without magelight this is my primary means of obtaining Major Prophecy on my Sorc, which increases my Spell Critical Rating. This also heals and restores magicka. Essence of Immovability (Columbine, Corn Flower, and Wormwood). I use this in PvP, since this gives me stealth detection, knockback immunity, and restores magicka (better to use it when competent allies are nearby, since it might reveal that you are surrounded by multiple players in stealth and you will not have an emergency pot available after use). Essence of Invisibility with only 2 ingredients (Blue Entoloma, Namira's Rot, Nirnroot, or Spider Egg). I use this in PvE content that requires stealth and if I need more speed I'll use Rapid Maneuver before using the potion. Essence of Invisibility with 3 ingredients (Blessed Thistle, Blue Entoloma, and Namira's Rot). Very useful in PvP alongside the vampire Dark Stalker passive, since you'll be invisible, ignore movement speed penalty while in Crouch, and you'll have a 30% movement speed boost from Major Expedition (I always have this slotted when riding from point A to B in PvP land, since gankers are always lurking). My templar will mostly use Essence of Health (Tri-Stat Potion) Ingredients: (Mountain Flower, Columbine, and Bugloss).

To OP and other new people, aka. Soul Shriven - you're new so do not get discouraged from exploring the zones.

CWC is specific, it may seem vast. Tbh, I'm not into steampunk, but the way it was designed DOES suit me. And it is related to one of the Tribunals, so that's good too.

    My wishlist for ESO
    I.Skills:
    >>weapons: Polearms, Unarmed, Crossbow

    >>Sorc's Twilight - perched animation

    >>a skill line - a guild having this - to enable us to increase % gold gain for donating Ornate gear (another gold sink in order to gain more pennies - but over time it would pay off)

    II.Overland Mechanics
    >>tree climing in Grahtwood / Malabal Tor / Greenshade, etc. (with tall trees)

    >>rock climbing in Glenumbra / Rivenspire / Stonefalls, etc. (with tall peaks)

    >>new skill lines - Adventure (enable climbing, increase flora and fauna harvesting chances)

    III.CP 2.0
    >>Craft Tree development --> https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/594079/idea-craft-cp-sub-tree-ideas-constant-wip#latest

    III.Replayable content in overland
    >>dynamic pocket rifts to Oblivion - eg. to Vaermina's in Stormhaven, Boethiah's in Deshaan, Hircine's in the Rift OR in Bankgorai, etc. to get Daedric Sets relevant to the Prince, something like Oblivion rifts in Blackwood / the Deadlands

    IV.Geography
    >>Pyandonea - we had some quests WITH Maormer (Summerset, High Isle) - maybe we could meet them there? Poke poke, nudge nudge, wink wink, eh ZOS?

    >>Norg-Tzel - for Mara's sake, ZOS, REMOVE it from the list please!

    V.Other
(the ideas are also inspired by other Forum Users' posts)
    >>pet battles! We collect SO MANY pets, and yet there are just a cosmetic. What a HUGE potential lies within those tiny beats!

    >>ASOC - a new server in Asia and Oceania. If people have a bad ping there, it would be great if they had a server reaching their places more easily. And hey, it would make THREE servers, not two.

    >>highlighting WBs that are being fought

    >>possibility to dye barding

    >>possibility to switch UI between guild bank<-->bank<-->guild trader

    >>display the dialogue options so that we can see which answer the NPC is reacting to

    >>a way to make Overland more challenging - for those who want

Clockwork City was an immediate favorite for me when it released, and has remained there ever since. While it may be visually a bit monochromatic, it makes sense to be. The moody (and somber) atmospheric music by Brad Derrick is in my list of favorites for zone scores.

Story-wise, it will always be a favorite to me because it was an important piece in what I feel is the best story arc ESO has offered us. I wish this approach was in play more often, rather than each chapter being essentially wrapped up within itself with a “final conclusion” offered in the Q4 DLC.

Everyone has personal preferences though. Sorry you find it so frustrating, OP.

I had to run the main quest up to the meeting in the crow headquarters eighteen times in order to unlock the Precursor on all of my characters and found the quest line to feature far too much backtracking over familiar territory. I would have preferred a more natural quest flow that simply moved the player from area to area, but I suppose the designers were looking to maximize the most time spent for very little to actually do. It felt like mostly just running from home and back to do little errands over and over to me. I guess this is why there are no wayshrines at the extreme ends of the landscape as well, requiring long hikes over unpleasant terrain to get to and from some locations.

I think the main quest-line is pretty good there. I also love that adorable wood elf chef that gives you recipes when you do his quests. That entire quest-line is hilarious. You can find him in the thieve's den.

I feel bad whenever I can come and go from there via the wayshrines, and the population is somehow not smart enough to figure out how to use the wayshrine. LOL.
  • deleted220614-000183
I think Clockwork map is inferior as they stuck with the main idea make everything from brass and it started to be boring very quickly. It was fine couple of minutes. Then I found out it is a mechanical reskin only with huge terrain obstacles and crazy navigation.
They could make it much better.
Clockwork furniture is fine as it allows you build things you would not be able create otherwise as Hlaalu style is quite limited and the rest of the game talks different design language.
So yes and no. DLC is nothing special but it is not the worst zone in the game as it has usable furniture and style.
