Since there are a lot of rumors getting spread about how much better it is doing cyrodiil PvP now, I just wanna clear things up for others to get a clearer impression of what really going on right now. Current state of Cyrodiil after the server hardware update:
Pros:
- Skills fire faster
- Ping is more Stable (even when connecting from Europe to NA server)
Cons:
- Bigger fights cause crazy rubberbanding of player characters
- Bigger fights cause sounds to break in no time (with weird audio effects coming from the soundbars like krrr krrrr krrrrr everytime you run into a ball group, zerg or keep fight. Happens to both me and my wife playing with high end PC components)
- Bigger fights cause constant crashes in a row without being able to login with the crashed character for several minutes
- Bad hitbox registering is still a thing regardless of fight size. LoS, movement speed, invisibility skills, psyjic ult, etc. cause your skills to simply miss even though you pressed them right in time, making countless build and playstyle options obsolete or subpar at best.
So in general yes, performance got an improvement indeed. It looks good at first try, but after a while playing the cons get bigger and make it a hassle to play on the long run. It can still get literally unplayable really fast as soon as a somewhat coordinated ball group or zerg shows up or when joining keep fight, without even being able to login again because of the crashes. A single ball group spamming skills creating tons of effects at the same time from healing skills, fireballs, negate shields, necro ult, as well as effects from sets like Dark Convergence, plaguebreak on people, etc. is already so heavily over the top causing several of their surroundigns to straight crash back to desktop or login screen with an error code (special case for PC NA - Grey Host Cyrodiil campaign: DC and AD constantly double teaming no matter where you go making this a truely annoying and frustrating problem for EP players at all times, since you will run into ball group after ball group and zerg after zerg. I suggest not playing EP on PC NA - Greyhost for that reason). Also the really weird sound effects makes one worried, if it could break the soundbar at some point. I recommend turning off every ingame sound while you are playing Cyrodiil just to be safe, especially if you plan on doing so regularly.
There is still a lot of work that have to be put into this to make it a truely fluent and convienent experience. To me, it still looks like the game is simply not able to handle masses of players at the same time no matter what kind of improvement gets tried. Personally, I think a light weight version of Cyrodiil with everything toned way down and a couple adjustments to gameplay (small map size, less keeps, less resources, the removal of LoS alltogether, and good nerf to movement speed buffs from all sources) could turn the PvP in this game around to the very best at least when it comes to general performance in that aspect.
