I think it would be cool if we could just right click a book we have collected and create a copy which then we can put in our homes. Customizing the look of the book could be a nice extra.

That's one of the things Skyrim does better than ESO.

can buy them for housing from mystic but unfortunately doesn't count as learning it on a new character, they need to change this so it does for that new mythic item no one is going to want to farm that on each character to use it

Well, you can't choose and click, but if you completed a set of books you can buy a furnishing set of these books from an NPC to put in your home, which are then readable.

Even better would be if we could write in them ourselves and put them in our houses for visitors.

I could see a lot of bans happening from that... or at least a LOT of moderation from ZOS when idiots be idiots with that...

Possibly, It's always a tiny amount of people that ruin it for the rest, yeah. Though, admittedly, ESO has far fewer when compared to other mmorpgs. (talking from experience)

OP's idea is kinda cool, but the logistics are~
As of UD17, (the last time I updated my trivia page), there are 3,653 books in the game (with over 500,000 words), and 312 interactive housing books. These totals have grown massively. There are not enough housing slots available as each book counts as 1 slot.
Good idea but not feasible atm.

Unless I'm not understanding what you said correctly -- when did I mention that I want to fill a home with every single book that exists?

Let's say I roleplay as a vampire hunter and I like books that talk about Vampirism, I'd like to make prints of those and place them in a bookcase. The game has so many amazing (empty) bookcase models but not nearly enough books to actually put in.

Now, if we're talking how much stress such a move would put in the already struggling memory of old-gen consoles, well, not sure, MIGHT have a problem there.

That would be super fun. I bet it would be popular with roleplayers too

Yeah, there are a few books that I always put in my 25+ homes, but there are also many titles that are not purchasable on the mystic vendor. Immortal blood for example, the classic staple story from Oblivion, isn't part of a purchasable set, and so cannot be acquired as a furnishing. 😕

As other people have mentioned there are a lot of readable lore book furnishings already. If you talk to the Mystics in the Mages Guild they sell a lot of them in sets of 10 books (which can all be placed separately they're not stuck together like the book rows). There's also others available individually from different places:

    https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Online:Library_Furnishings/Literature

I have one house with 200 books in it, mostly in the library but a few are scattered around as ones in use - on desks being used for research, beside or under beds, on the sofa by the fireplace etc.

The problem I've found (besides how many item slots it takes up) is there's very few book shelves which actually fit the books. A lot of the shelves are too short to place books upright and even on the ones which are tall enough getting them positioned so they're readable is difficult.
