I know, I was using "reused" in a fairly loose sense. The track I mentioned isn't the same between ES4 and ESO, but just very similar, like the same track being done by 2 different musical groups.I listen to the soundtracks from the single player games and ESO frequently, and while themes are similiar, they are not re-used exactly as is. There is tweaking and changes in the ESO versions.
Some tracks within ESO are re-used though in different zones, such as the Rivenspire music is used in some player homes (I hear it in my Varlaisveya Ayleid home), and I'm more than fine with that because the Rivenspire zone music is one of my favorites.
Thanks! I didn't realise UESP had a page on the music, although I should have realised it would, since it covers everything else. It's not too much, either way. I'd say maybe 10-20% of ESO's soundtrack includes motifs from older TES songs?
It varies depending on the expansion. Morrowind has a lot of callbacks, while Greymoor and Blackwood were almost entirely original.
The unofficial wiki has a pretty good page for that. https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Online:Music

One that is conspicuously absent is the Arena tavern theme. Which cries out for resurrection.

I like all of ESO's music, but NGL-- I wouldn't mind hearing some of the music from Arena and Daggerfall get reused. They don't get as much attention as the music from Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim, but I think they contain some pretty awesome tracks.
A lot of ESO’s music sounds more like WoWs than elder scrolls to me. Outside of the obvious pieces where he uses the Jeremy Soule melody’s and motifs.
Actually I'm surprised we don't see more reused music, it seems that the industry as a whole...there is a misnomer thatA lot of ESO’s music sounds more like WoWs than elder scrolls to me. Outside of the obvious pieces where he uses the Jeremy Soule melody’s and motifs.
I disagree....
Brad Derek is every bit the composer as Soule. Jason Hayes and Russel Brower come from the New Agey 'David Arkenstone (who wrote a crap ton of WoW's music) school of composing....
Bethesda owns (Despite what Soule has said) all of TES music...they could have just dropped in all of Soule's music (who is tough to work with and not a very good person it seems) , but they instead took the time and cash to compose a soundtrack that fits with the old music (because they wouldn't have been able to fade into the old music so easily if it didn't) but gives ESO it's own voice.
I think what I'm trying to say is Jeremy Soule is an overrated prima donna, and the ESO soundtracks are awesome.
How much of the music from the offline Elder Scrolls games has been reused for ESO ? I'm not making any value judgements here, by the way, I know ZOS have the rights to the Elder Scrolls music. I ask only because I noticed in my last few trips into Greenshade that the theme music for that zone is from Elder Scrolls IV. I believe it's the track "Watchmen's Ease" ?
Agreed, I actually enjoyed hearing the version of that Oblivion track in Greenshade, and have no problems with hearing versions of previous ES tracks in ESO.xXSilverDragonXx wrote: »To be completely fair about this, generally people play this game (well at least a portion of us) because we loved TES games that came before this one. So it stands to reason that hearing music from games that we loved and bought over a decade ago would be rather enjoyable. I think this is in part for TES players of the past.
