Reused Elder Scrolls music in ESO ?

How much of the music from the offline Elder Scrolls games has been reused for ESO ? I'm not making any value judgements here, by the way, I know ZOS have the rights to the Elder Scrolls music. I ask only because I noticed in my last few trips into Greenshade that the theme music for that zone is from Elder Scrolls IV. I believe it's the track "Watchmen's Ease" ?

We should see more music from the single player games in ESO, they would definitely help with the Elder Scrolls feel, the truth is a lot of ESO music is simply not memorable.

I tried playing ESO with older TES games soundtracks on the background, and frankly it didn't sound right to me. Gave wrong vibes or something? Even my all time favorite "All's well" sounded differently, even in Leyawiin. Hm, Brad Derrick should reuse this track.. Though not a fan of his work, i definitely adore his more 'savage' tunes, stuff from Murkmire and the Reach

Not sure any music has been reused note-for-note, but there are certainly a lot of tracks that directly reflect music from the single player games. But that's not new for the series. A lot of Skyrim's tracks were new renditions of popular Morrowind and Oblivion tracks. I think it's nice to have call-backs like that occasionally, partly for the nostalgia hit, but mostly to create an "Elder Scrolls" sense of familiarity across Tamriel, whether in the MMO or any single player game. I'm sure TES6 will continue the trend.

I don't think I've heard any reused songs (but they should for maximum nostalgia) unless you're referring to excerpts from other songs, in that case, I've heard them a lot.
Heck, Morrowind's theme is played in oblivion (but faster), and in skyrim (but more epic instead of nostalgic)
the same motif is heard in tides of the abecean sea with a piano, but the chord progression is different.
I believe I've heard some of morrowind's ost in vvardenfell as well, the iconic bits, but I don't know if it's the whole song or just an excerpt.
And I've definitely heard some excerpts from oblivion's classic exploration songs in leyawiin.

I like the game's music, I wouldn't be mad if they outright reused the same music from the single player games.

I listen to the soundtracks from the single player games and ESO frequently, and while themes are similiar, they are not re-used exactly as is. There is tweaking and changes in the ESO versions.

Some tracks within ESO are re-used though in different zones, such as the Rivenspire music is used in some player homes (I hear it in my Varlaisveya Ayleid home), and I'm more than fine with that because the Rivenspire zone music is one of my favorites.

I know, I was using "reused" in a fairly loose sense. The track I mentioned isn't the same between ES4 and ESO, but just very similar, like the same track being done by 2 different musical groups.

Summerset music reminded me a bit of some of the Daggerfall tracks.
While I really love Brad’s original tracks, I sooo wish they would reuse the Battlespire soundtrack. Especially in dark and/or Daedric environments.

It’s for both continuity and fan service. When this game launched there were cries of “this isn’t the Elder Scrolls” and I think ZoS did a great job linking ESO with TES via things like music in the years between then and now

I'm fairly sure there are a few or at least one from skyrim. There's one I used to hear when I was riding to the mages guild. Very lovely and soothing. I'm sure I have heard that in this game.

There's a bunch of nostalgia tracks in Vvardenfell.

I know that some of the Oblivion themes are brought back for a measure or so in some of the basegame zones, but Vvardenfell is where you can sometimes get something that's almost fully brought back. Makes Vvardenfell a wonderful zone to go to.

I really want a full-on remake of Morrowind...

One nostalgic track I don't see mentioned very often is "Dawn Gleams on Cyrodiil". Just after one minute in, you can hear "Wings of Kynareth" from Oblivion.

Eso absolutely uses "remixes" of Oblivion's, Morrowind's, and Skyrim's soundtracks.

It's not too much, either way. I'd say maybe 10-20% of ESO's soundtrack includes motifs from older TES songs?

It varies depending on the expansion. Morrowind has a lot of callbacks, while Greymoor and Blackwood were almost entirely original.

The unofficial wiki has a pretty good page for that. https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Online:Music

Thanks! I didn't realise UESP had a page on the music, although I should have realised it would, since it covers everything else.

I like all of ESO's music, but NGL-- I wouldn't mind hearing some of the music from Arena and Daggerfall get reused. :) They don't get as much attention as the music from Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim, but I think they contain some pretty awesome tracks.

Gotcha, yes then, themes are definitely re-used. The Morrowind zone definitely has music that is strongly suggestive of the single player game, maybe some parts there was re-used as is. It made the zone definitely more enjoyable too.

One thing I love about ESO is how you absolutely hear and feel the 'vibe' from previous games in the wonderfully creative way they craft their music.

A lot of ESO’s music sounds more like WoWs than elder scrolls to me. Outside of the obvious pieces where he uses the Jeremy Soule melody’s and motifs.

Not enough. Nostalgia is a strong card they can use again and again and not a single soul will complain. I wish we could see more of Morrowind one day, that is all.

Lots of Oblivion music playing in various areas including Blackwood in particular (which stands to reason).

Haven't heard many of the original Morrowind songs. Maybe a couple but they are pretty uncommon even in Vvardenfell.

Perhaps the creator hasn't Jeremy Soule'd all the rights yet! XD

Well, the game has some echoes of Daggerfall, even if not in music. For instance, the way some NPCs pose at rest with bows or drawn swords is almost precisely the same as with Daggerfall enemies, even down to the way they bend their knees while standing:

    zcf2f615wzgx.jpg

Subtle, but noticeable for us who've played Daggerfall much. There are some other Daggerfall-like poses in addition (like there was in Skyrim, too).

As for music, there definitely are quotations from earlier TES games' music in the tracks. Personally, I like it very much. It's one way more to tie ESO into the chain of TES games, and also gives a nice tingle of nostalgia.

    I disagree....

Brad Derek is every bit the composer as Soule. Jason Hayes and Russel Brower come from the New Agey 'David Arkenstone (who wrote a crap ton of WoW's music) school of composing....

Bethesda owns (Despite what Soule has said) all of TES music...they could have just dropped in all of Soule's music (who is tough to work with and not a very good person it seems) , but they instead took the time and cash to compose a soundtrack that fits with the old music (because they wouldn't have been able to fade into the old music so easily if it didn't) but gives ESO it's own voice.

I think what I'm trying to say is Jeremy Soule is an overrated prima donna, and the ESO soundtracks are awesome.

I never said Brad Derricks music is bad. I enjoy his music for the most part. Especially the early zone themes and CWC. However, a lot of his music seems to be structured very similarly to the formula that WoW composers use. And that’s ok. Its not a knock on him lol …but if I’m being honest, as mmo composers go, I much prefer Masayoshi Soken and Maclaine Diemer.

Jeremy Soule is absolutely one of the great composers of video game music. Not overrated In the least.. the way he evokes mood and emotion along with a sense of wonder is second to almost no one. The Oblivion and Skyrim soundtracks are timeless, legendary even.

Very well, why not reuse themes and motifs from the same game? There are other connections in ESO to older content? The musical cues are exquisite in this ones ears.

To be completely fair about this, generally people play this game (well at least a portion of us) because we loved TES games that came before this one. So it stands to reason that hearing music from games that we loved and bought over a decade ago would be rather enjoyable. I think this is in part for TES players of the past.

I think it was when Morrowind came out that they had the choir boy singing when the game was launching. As long as they don't bring the choir boy back I'm happy for them to recycle the music. I wandered around the original Morrowind so much that I remember walking around in real life thinking there was something missing - Morrowind background music. I think its good for people who have never played the original games so if they decide to play the other games it'll add familiarity.
