Is this game dying?

wabajaa

Every time when I log in, I found less player than before. Also I found nothing to do so that I log off instantly.
I really want to enjoy the game but I don't know what I can do or any fun in this game.
Need help.

Hopefully the OP is to the 'dier' as there were a plethora of those in WoW.

"WoW is dying..." - this had been going on for ages before you-know-what.

Most of the hubs seem packed during peak on PC-EU, hell even PTS was pretty packed in High Isle the first few days

    ofc

    AwA - Destroy PvE
    Rotation - Destroy fun
Everyone use Daggers - Destroy Role Play (Mage with daggers?)
    PvP - Not even PvP
Etc... Ofc people are leaving the game. But others like me, only waiting for Card Game in Elder Scroll

Well, march’s steam’s numbers were low but it’s hard to tell that the game is dying based on only a month of one platform stats. The next chapter is also controversial but i don’t think that the card game will make that many people entirely leave the game and never look back.

Too generalized of a statement. OP what do you consider "fun"? For all we know the only thing you consider fun is hunting lore books and killing skeevers. Ton's of skeevers but lorebooks are limited.

I see people everywhere even in lower level zones and out of the way places.

No, it's not dying and frankly these types of threads have gotten WAY old.

I'll assume that you actually are concerned about your play experience in the game and this isn't just another negative press thread to colour up the front page of the forum.

So. From what you describe OP, boredom is the issue here.
And as far as what you can do, you kinda answered your own question in your post.

If there is absolutely nothing left to interest you in this game and you find no joy in any of the likely 1000s of ways a person can enjoy this game, then you need a different game.

As a whole the game is doing well but the population is down from this time last year.
    - Questing/Overland population is healthy.
    - Endgame trials population is minimal.
    - Scorepushing/serious raiders population is extremely minimal.
    - Cyrodiil Population is minimal
    - BGs population is minimal

Basically the game is doing great as long as you don’t care for PvP or Endgame PvE.

So for 90% of the playerbase it's doing well.

If you're not having fun with the game and not sure what you want to do it might be worth taking a break. One of the nice things about this game is you can do that and the worst that will happen is you miss some event tickets. Play something else, pick up an entirely different hobby and come back to ESO when you start thinking you'd really enjoy some aspect of it - then do that.

I suspect the perceived lack of people is either due to the areas where you're spending the majority of your time or a symptom of feeling bored and directionless in the game - you're looking for The Thing everyone is spending their time doing so you can do it too and then it will hopefully be fun because it's the thing everyone is doing. Instead you see individuals and small groups scattered all over doing different things which either you've done or aren't interested in doing and nothing signalling that one area is where to go to start having fun with it again.

Depends on what you like to do. If you like casual overland content, the game is thriving. If you like PvP or veteran trials/arenas then yea the game is genuinely dead. PvP hasn’t gotten any updates in a long time, the performance worsens each patch, the populations are declining, PvP is genuinely on its last leg.

Endgame trials are declining as well, they still work but there’s more performance issues than before. There’s also a lack of challenge and reward for many, so there’s definitely less score pushing teams than before.

    Welcome to Casual Scrolls Online.

It is impossible to tell how many people are playing, as the game uses instancing. Saying "the cities look just as crowded to me", while accurate, doesn't reflect how many instances of that zone are active, the cities will always look active, there will just be more or less instances of them. People will be saying the game is doing great and it is crowded, until the last instance of Vivec starts emptying out.

Only ZOS has the full numbers, and Steam puts out the numbers for their subscribers publicly. So if you go by opinion and "full cities, the game is going great, if you go by Steam numbers, not so much. If you go by ZOS numbers, well ZOS doesn't like to share active numbers and keeps their numbers secret, so you can't. ZOS will share how many accounts they have though, which is like 20+ million now, but that includes every free player who logged in for 5 minutes and every alt account players have (some have many), so it is basically a meaningless number.

When it comes down to it, it is a video game. Growing or dying if YOU aren't having fun and enjoying your time online, you might consider a break for a while, try other games. I do this each expansion, i play very little for 6 months or so (also work schedule related) then fall/winter i play a lot to enjoy all the new stuff. For me at least it keeps things fresh.

Oh, I forgot to mention, there is one way to sort of tell how busy the game is. Do crafting writs on 10+ characters. It used to be very rare that I would log back into a previous instance when swapping characters, now it is more like a 50/50 chance, the other day all but one of my characters ended up in the same instance, which was very surprising.

Daed gaem posts crop up far more regularly than that.

They have been a staple of dedicated gaming forums since... well, records began.

UO started daeding I'd say ca 1998.

I'm too young to have played BBS based Muds but I wouldn't be surprised if those garnered a fair share of daed gaems as well.

The advantage we have now is access to figures we can liberally interpret to our own ends. Great progress! Much advancement! \o/

For me, it is. I'm not saying this on the basis of less people in zone or something like that. It's more that my friends circles and guilds/groups have people leaving the game at a rapid pace and finding people to do things with at an appropriate difficulty level is getting to be extremely difficult. I no longer have any standing scheduled groups for trials or dungeons.
