Will there be a character animation / mesh improvement for old models?

I remember that WOW got enhanced models. Now I was looking at some NPC's faces for the new prologue quests and they look really dated.

Well, will we get improved character models soon?

Thank you!

Those were improved? Everyone’s eyes were huge, like when Daffy duck saw that pile of gold.

If they made new character models then they would need to give all players several appearance chance tokens.

Um.... When WoW "improved" models, it was the last nail in the coffin for me. I looked at my NElf mains, thought about the other things that were.... not good from my POV, and canceled all my accounts. Haven't ever been back. And never will.

Have you seen what an Orc looked like at the E3 2012 showcase?

That didn't feel like an ESO character back then.

I think it was EQ, or maybe EQII that did the new char model thing first, it was free, but weird. They made it optional, so you could use the original model, or the new one at the flick of a settings option. The weird part was, you never knew if the person looking at you was seeing the old low res model, or the new one, and adjusting your char to look decent in both was rough. They also let you do stuff like change your look whenever you wanted, it wasn't monetized. So yeah, they would definitely have to either hand out tokens like rain, or make it free here as well.

I get what you mean and I would also like to have new models but I also understand this would be a big problem for people that like their character as is.

About animations, yes, please we need new ones. To everyone trying to tell that they can't do it because old consoles can't load them or some other thing like that, you're wrong. ZOS is fooling everyone with that explanation because we're getting new animations on the crown store from crown crates like emotes, mementos and others all the time.

Yeah, I never got why consoles alone were blamed for that. Considering another game I play has a building function in it that's MUCH more involved than ESO (you can build entire cities on this survival game)can be run on older consoles(admittedly not always GREAT) it almost has to be how ESO engine handles things and not JUST older consoles/computers.

Id like to see a redesign but considering the way zos does things I'd be a bit hesitant on that. I'm DEFINITELY not in sync with them on what I personally think makes sense(I could think "shoe" and they'll yell "ZEBRA!") but it's their game. I'll CAUTIOUSLY say yes to a redesign.

I was hoping they would when they dropped DX9, as many limitations in the character models and animations were due to limits with DX9.

If they did change the rigging after DX9, they managed to do it without breaking anything and there have been no announcements. This suggests that they have not touched it, yet.

My guess is that they never will. It will change how the characters look and move, and that does not improve server performance. It probably will not improve FPS, either.

New models, no. New textures, yes.
So they raised the floor and lowered the ceiling. Except the ceiling has spikes in it now and the floor is also lava.
