House Visitations – just how does it work

Apparently I don’t have a full grasp of how house visitation actually works. I’ve been under the impression other players can only visit your house if they are in a group with you, or guild members could visit your primary, assuming you’ve set the privileges for such.

This morning, after purchasing Seaveil Spire, I was wandering through to look it over and come up with ideas for decorating it. I had not changed any of the default house settings, it was still set as “visitor”. Nor had I changed it to my primary. Furthermore, I was not in a group. The next thing I know, I have random strangers popping in and running around to look at the place.

Any insight into just how house visitations works would be appreciated

Any guild member or friend can port into your home if you are there. Otherwise, maybe through Essential Housing? I can’t think of any other way.

There are scripts you can use to jump to all players houses unless they're closed. Some addons put those scripts into nice UI's to make it even easier. Also people can always jump to you when they're in the same guild as you by just right clicking your name in guild menu and teleporting.

I'm but a sarcastic beef jerky. Irony and cynicism are my parents. You've been warned.

Yes it sounds like guildmates may have seen in the roster that you were in your new house and decided to travel to you ("travel to player" option) to check it out?

Why they wouldn't just preview it from the Crown Store, I have no idea, haha... it's not like there's been much time to decorate.

By default everyone has "Visitor" permissions, so any player can visit your house. Guild members/friends/group members can do it from right click menu, other players that are not able to 'right click' you can use chat command:
    /script JumpToHouse("@playerid")
