First experience with Mirri

Finally one of my characters has decided to help Mirri - it is surprising to me, how this changed my Dunmer's gameplay, having her around. I didn't expect it to be like this, my Dunmer actually cares about keeping Mirri happy - and Mirri doesn't seem to like being idle - reminds me a bit of Cait in Fallout 4, she was as well unhappy, if I didn't take her on a looting and killing spree quite often. Mirri really enjoys improving her skills and on the way "teach" some things - like "roll, if you can", maybe good advice, but my Dunmer isn't fond of rolling in the mud. I wonder when Mirri's patience will run out and my Dunmer will be getting "the talk" - well, we will see about that and how Mirri will react, when my Dunmer will be showing her necromancer side more clearly.

So what has changed with having Mirri around?- I do more stuff, where Mirri can improve her skills as an assassin - she does that really well actually and it is a pleasure having her around. My Dunmer doesn't really need her, but she won't tell Mirri, because Miri seems to be so happy about having a purpose now. Yeah, my Dunmer really cares about her happiness.

Did you have similar experiences with Mirri, after you got her?- Has this changed over time and how? Did your game play change since you got Mirri?

I like having Mirri around, her snark makes me laugh and she doesn't mind pickpocketing 'n thieving, unlike pearl-clutching Bastian😱. I like that I can send her to the phantom zone when murdering is on the menu, and bring her back and she's ready for adventure. She hasn't changed my gameplay, just made it a bit more fun. YMMV of course.

good idea, to just dismiss her, if I want to do something like going on a shopping tour - I doubt that Mirri would enjoy that.

Did you feel like this pretty much from the beginning or did this come over time? What is bothering you - her snarky comments or her attempt to teach you something? Or are her likes and dislike not after your liking?

Ah yeah, I thought of this thread but didn't find it - thanks for posting the link.

I see, so it is her snarky way to comment - will be interesting to see, if it will bother me over time as well. So far she just makes me smile.

I see, but that might be what I enjoy actually - Jenessa in TES:Skyrim was like that, as well a Dunmer. Mirri and I look like Dunmer sisters and every time when we are engulfed in flames I'm thinking "well, good luck with that, we are Dunmer". Mirri is as well an agile assassin and jumps around quite a lot - she will be a great companion for my night blades as well, if those wouldn't be so averse to having anyone around. So, eventually they might get her by accident, just like my Dunmer got her.

Mirri is the cool cousin who is fun to hang around with. Bastian is that younger, less cool cousin you get foisted upon to babysit.

In either case, combat wise they are high maintenance with gear (blue and above!). Bastian dies easily as sword and shield or two-handed, but for some rando bizarre reason, his ult is best utilised when playing as Sword and shield/two-handed. Mirri is great as dual wield or bow, but has the habit to pull.

This one can’t wait to see what combat quirks Ember and Isolde have.

PS. “First experience “ on thread title made this one blush. Sammy is innocent. Please don’t corrupt this one.

For the longest time I ran with Mirri... mainly because Bastian had too many "goody two shoes" views. However, it seems ZOS has adjusted his rapport so I can now visit the outlaw's refuge fence and not get negative rapport for doing so. The only issue I have with him now is I have to de-spawn him whenever I come across a thieve's trove.

However, I do find him a better companion than Mirri because he seems more genuinely invested in wanting to be around me and is much more upbeat and optimistic. So I now have Mirri as a healer- which I rarely need... and have Bastian as a tank.

I'm looking forward to Ember and Isobel and see what they bring to the table... but am still peeved that it's two females and not a male/female option. On that all I can say is their next Companion introductions better be TWO males... preferably Wood Elf and Orc. Although, I'm sure one of the races will be dependent upon what area the next Chapter is based upon as we had Bastian an Imperial introduced in Blackwood and now Isobel a Breton introduced in High Isle.

My combat experience with Mirri was that she wasn't as good at pathing around enemy groups as I am when I'm trying to avoid fighting every couple steps (public dungeons were the big offender here), but her DPS did make up for it when we inevitably had to stop and fight the pack of enemies.

Agreed! It would be nice if they had the SKYRIM option to set companions to 'only attack when I do' and set them to not draw aggro unless player does.

Mirri and my Dunmer have pretty much the same combat style - bow from a distance and when enemies get into jump range, just go all in and kill them, Mirri does the same, so we are a good team. Otherwise she is watching my back, that I can concentrate on jumping on the next group, while she is dealing with what I left behind and once she has finished them off, she jumps right in and joins again - that makes her a quite good companion - I am not dependent on her dps, but her watching my back by staying a few steps behind whilst still being able to jump right in when I do, is ideal for my Dunmer. Mirri shows so far an aggressive stance rather than a defensive one, which might not be good for stealth missions, but then again, she needs some spare time as well, so I will just dismiss her in that case. Otherwise I just accept that she has her own mind and makes decisions on her own - I quite like that she is like that and I don't have to babysit her.

"first experience" is used in many contexts, [snip]. "first impression" would not be good enough, I have evaluated her performance in combat and experienced her compatibility with my Dunmer's play style, so first "impression" would be to weak to describe it.

    I'm seconding @SilverBride. Can't stand Mirri.

She was alright at first but quickly went on my nerves. I don't think she's "teaching" me anything or is funny. I much prefer Bastian despite his morals may clash with some of my characters' and that his existence does so it's unlikely we get a more proper imperial companion and not a breton in imperial body.
[Lie] Of course! I don't even worship Daedra!

I guess that is as well a matter of where you live and what you are used to - some countries avoid small talk, some use it to a certain degree and others use any opportunity to talk to each other, even if those are complete strangers. I got used to the latter and so I'm not bothered by Mirri's chatty behavior - and that she is telling me to roll to avoid an attack, she means well, I just don't follow that advice mainly because of high latency. Well, and rolling in the mud is not my Dunmers way to do things.

Bastian dies easily as sword and shield or two-handed...

I find the opposite to be true. I have him set up as a sword and board tank and take him with me to solo dungeons and world bosses. I can count on one hand how many times he has died and still have fingers left over.

I have him in heavy armor and all his gear is bolstered, mostly purple quality (still working on that, those pieces are expensive) and followed an online guide for his skills.

That is what my friends told me as well - Bastian is a good tank, Mirri is a good healer. But she seems to be a quite good archer and assassin as well. I neither need a tank nor a healer, and Mirri is so agile as an assassin, so I'm pretty happy, that she has more than one talent.

My elf gets on very well with Mirri. Mirri really earned a spot when my elf accidently grabbed a red potion when she went to talk to a quest giver. Some NPC attacked my elf. Mirri didn't hesitate one second before she jumped in and killed the NPC who was attacking her friend. The high bounty was well worth it. :)

Fully agree! The majority of people who have Bastian die as a tank, 1) don't have the right gear and 2) don't have the right skills equipped... but then blame the companion when it's the player not knowing how to properly equip the companion. I have Bastian in all blue Vigorous, with purple sword and shield in Vigorous. I have Kindle, Drake's Blood, Provoke, On Guard, and Ritual of Salvation skills slotted. I used to have Basalt Barrier equipped too, but he always activated both shields at the SAME TIME, so I took Basalt out because the damage mitigated is so small and my Magplar doesn't need any additional protection. With Vigorous gear giving him a huge amount of health, the other shield and Drake's Blood scale better as well as they scale with max health.

For overland activities like delves and public dungeons, either companion is fine. For mostly soloing world bosses and group dungeons though, I am going to choose tank Bastion over dual wield Mirri even if both have decent gear.

I don’t have Mirri fully leveled yet, but I don’t think she can hold up as well under heavy combat because of her skill choices.

I like her extra loot from chests perk.

I've only recently started using Bastien and if he has any perks I haven't noticed them. It's also annoying to hear him say "This is a good area for harvesting" no matter where I stop to harvest something, not to mention his loss of raport every time I loot a thieves' cache out in the wild.

from my experience with companions, they should not be in melee range ever unless they are a tank, because they die too easy and too dumb to not stand in stupid

my mirri is using a bow for dps and she rarely dies being so far from the actual combat, which helps my tank characters a lot, and i noticed when im on my DPS, i usually can still keep aggro off of her because im doing way more dmg than she is

if you want to keep them ranged, but do not want them dodge rolling, can just give them an ice staff
