I am a lawyer. Finedrin is not my client, however, I cannot stand to see such injustice.
Finedrin cannot have "st[olen] rotten tomatoes and other refuse from stablemaster Semiral's midden-heap" because it's not stealing what has been abandoned.
Secondly, I doubt the veracity of the accusations, since Zalapu refers to Faruin as a male, when she is female. Was the witness not wearing glasses, hmm? https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Online:Faruin
Finally, Atrius the merchant is not even in town, he left with his cart just fine. I hear he was attacked by werewolves. Isnt it possible the werewolves damaged the cart, not Finedrin? I demand his release on all charges for these spurious accusations.
We won't even get into holding him in the stocks for over 8 years with no trial. It's a travesty.

I suspect Finedrin's Faruin is a different Faruin - Zalapu says "the Altmer commander Faruin" and Finedrin's brother Lonor refers to him as an Altmer as well, but that one is a Bosmer and a Vinedusk Ranger. I wonder why would a Bosmer and an Altmer share the same name...this could also be a good instance to bring up cross-race identification bias!
That said, I agree with your call to free Finedrin. He explicitly hasn't shown proper repentance, but eight years in the stocks seems a disproportionate sentence.PC NA, CP2500+. Character creation is the true endgame.1 -

Under whose law is this not theft? Are you making an assumption about the legal code used in-game?
I agree it's silly to do suggest a crime has not been committed without a copy of the laws of the land!1 -

Well, to be fair, it does makes sense. I mean, imagine a human and an altmer committing the same crime and getting the same sentence for time in jail. For a human it would be a considerable part of his life lost, while the altmer would just yawn and move on as if it had been a bad afternoon.

✭✭✭✭✭I spoke with Finedrin a couple of times. He actually seems to be comfortable with his situation. Is more concerned with his view from the platform.
Perhaps he has a long list of crimes somewhere that is a bit harsher to deal with. Lessor of two punishments?Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.
