Game Crashes Without Explicit Error After ~5 Seconds; Unknown Error in Event Viewer

Since the patch, I've struggled to successfully launch ESO (Steam version). For the last couple of days, it opens for a few seconds and crashes without an error. I've tried:
  1. All steps listed here: https://help.elderscrollsonline.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/6486/
  2. Reinstalling
  3. Running as administrator
  4. Running in compatibility mode
I finally checked Event Viewer, and am seeing "Application popup" errors with error codes I can't cross reference. Any idea what might be going on? Thanks!

What graphics card and graphics card driver are you using? I may have fixed a similar issue.

    XBOX 2015-2019
    PC-NA 2019-2022
ESO was lost to the depths

Hi, would be awesome if you have. I am using a 3090 and am currently on driver version 512.15. Thanks!

Try rolling back the driver, 512.5 caused crashes for another player here:-

I strongly recommend not automatically installing latest drivers, stick with the ones that are proven to work unless a newer one addresses a particular problem. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Update: rolled back with no effect, but ended up finding the issue. I use RTSS to limit my framerate, and after closing programs one by one to diagnose, found ESO working after closing this one. Investigating further, "application detection level" was set to "high" which apparently worked in the past but something about ESO changed to cause crashes at that level. Reducing to "none" stopped the crashes.

    Cheers!

Thanks for the update that the crash was caused by RTSS limiting framerate. With your issue now resolved, this thread is going to be closed.
