Disgusting postscript to achievements received by characters.

I'm not against new achievement system. It has both its advantages and disadvantages. But I am terribly annoyed by these inscriptions with nicknames of characters who have received achievements. Perhaps I am one such person who likes it when all achievements are obtained by one character. When I see that some achievements have been obtained by my other characters, I have no desire to play. I would like to see "order" in my achievements. Removing a character for me is a partial solution to problem. These achievements will also stand out from rest. I hope that it will be possible to overwrite such achievements or delete these inscriptions altogether. I apologize for my English.ws023dcaicft.png

I have commented various times that this Earned By thing should go away all together and achievements should become player achievements not character achievements. I mean achievement should only store data about whether is it earned or not. It should not store earned by who data.

While i support this you absolutely will find people going berserk about it as they want to know which character(s) achieved it and they'd rather have all names listed.

That's why it seems to me that achievement system from WoW is the most suitable. There is an opportunity to earn achievements on other characters and at same time they are common to entire account.

This is why we're stuck with this terrible "account wide" system in the first place. People saying "Oh, I can't play any other characters, because I might get an achievement on them. Please make achievements account-wide, so I can play something besides my main, and have all the achievements count together."

Meanwhile, the players who liked it to be separate, because they're character achievements, not player ones, now also "have no desire to play".

With all due respect to people's feelings I'd rather that system stayed in place, thank you very much ;) Ideal would be a toggle I guess, but I did spend weeks before AWA to get those notifications "right" and for me it's the last salvaged info of my characters.
Please, do not get rid of it.

i think this is the most descriptive explanation of AWA lol

i personally never didnt play other toons because my main wouldnt get the achievements, i accepted a long time ago there were some achievements my main would never get because he was purely not built for it (like emperor, he is not set up as a pvp toon, that is not his purpose)

so i was treating them as pseudo account wide anyway, as long as i earned the achievement on at least one toon, then i was good and could have the unlock

the problematic achievements were the ones that had multiple parts or "progress bars" where you would have had to stay on the same toon to grind out the entirety of the achievement on 1 toon

My main, first character I ever made at early release, was made to be a, to borrow concepts from a couple of other games, a totally lightside paragon so totally "good" that she'd glow golden. It is going to suck when she gets a Bestest Assassin Evah title because I have a nightblade I built for the dark brotherhood who was made to be a totally amoral anything for money sociopath killing unarmed npcs is fun type. Equally not incentive to play more is the thief stuff; on my built to be a thief stealthy any item left behind is actually part of the building character any titles or achievements for thief stuff is great; for my lightside paragon, not so much. Knowing that whichever alt I play will effect changes on the others, changes I might not want because I'm still playing a specific character with a backstory and character guidelines really doesn't make me want to play more.

My characters are built for what I wanted at the time. My main is really tanky and hard to kill, but she takes forever to solo a world boss because tanky, not damage. She isn't interchangeable with all the roles to "do it all", so it would be really hard if not impossible to use her for everything. But she'll end up with achievements I didn't want her to get, no matter who I use to play. It also sucks that she will be the only one who did some of the quests that can't be repeated. I have 18 characters on the one account, and she'll be the only one I could take through those stories. How is that supposed to "improve" my game?

Your main knows 49 motifs. Your alt knows 1. If you log into your alt first, then your main, you are on your main when 1 + 49 = 50. If you log into your main first, then your alt, you are on your alt when 1 + 49 = 50. The achievement is awarded on whatever character you were logged into when your accumulated progress puts you over the top.

I logged into my account with my main as first after AwA was added, then I logged in with my ALTs. Some thieving achievements what my actual thief character had the most progression on got unlocked after I logged on with him yet it is still saying it was unlocked by my main character.
    I never understood this.

This is the reason why i gave up on 3 accounts and started a new one.

I will not level another character until the new one make all possible on game.

And if the DB and Thief have still a problem with achievement i will never play them again. I will just use Legerdemain.
(i mean this one will not have them, but if i do a second character for DB and Thief, and the title or achievement will be given to the other one too, then i wont start them at all)

The game is subject to change, i agree, but when the change is so radical, i feel like they simply did not care at all.
Money first now. Game (and Gamers) will have to adapt.

Agreed, that's a major defect of AWA: it really damages the role play aspect of the game, because characters end up with achievements completely irrelevant or wrong for that character type.

“Earned by”, in this case, is a misnomer. The achievement was actually earned by your main, it was simply completed by your alt. I think that’s where the resistance comes in to play. The spurious tooltip serves as a constant reminder of the inequity of the method of implementation of AWA.

i like AWA, but i still find the tooltip nonsensical (and as such have it hidden with addon)

they should just add an option in the settings to fully disable it so everyone (including console) would have the option

They should implement a toggle to turn off visibility for this feature for those that dislike it. In the meantime, there is an addon for those who dislike it on PC.

I'd rather have the tooltips stay. I prefer to see the names of at least SOME of my characters on achievements I associate with them now that my account has been stripped of everything else I'd earned on them individually.

Considering OP apologized for bad English, I'm going to assume they may not have meant "disgusting" but rather something like "frustrating". English can be weird with its synonyms and all. I can understand being irritated or bothered but any number of issues caused by AwA and the way it was implemented, but if OP DID mean "disgusting"...I would say that's a bit of an overreaction in regards to this particular aspect.

Depending of the langage, the meaning of disgusting is quite different.

it can be said as strong indignation. In France, it could be translate as I am sick, and *Je suis écoeuré ou je suis dégouté* is in current langage.
In Quebec, if you are invited to get a *écoeurant* breakfast, this can mean delicious.

As for the OP, the word is quite strong but express his feelings, as he said further : I have no desire to play.

if i had myself to choose between disgusting and frustrating, my choice is made : disgusting. I spend 8 years to build characters and RP, and all that was erased in one night. So yes definitly disgusting.

    What?! Can you explain better

If you need to kill 500 blobs to get the title "Blob Slayer", and lets face it who wouldn't want to be Blob Slayer, then before you had to achieve that on each alt you played.
On this fictitious account you have two alts; your main and the "donkey" who you use to store all your cool stuff.
Your donkey has done just enough in the game to have the minimum requirements to meet "donkey".
With account wide achievements your main "blob slayer" has reached 495 kills.
You log in Donkey, they have 6 blob kills - during the levelling up the process - the donkey gets attributed as being the one who unlocks "Blob Slayer". Now of course your main can use the title. But, as recorded in the game, they did not earn it.

I do not mind the account wide achievements (especially when it was kill 10 000 000 crabs to unlock a "common" color). All alts contributing was good.
What I miss is character level advancement. There are many posts about this has been compromised.

I mean honestly, there has been a general drive towards not having to complete the same thing on different characters, since there is so much content in this game and redoing the same quests 20 or fishing trips 20 times does get immensely dull for many of us. I think this is fundamentally a good thing. Though, fair enough, it would make more sense to award achievements to the account name (or just note the achievement without a name attached at all) if the achievement is account-wide.

We should have had the option to pick which alts got credit for which achievements. I mean just put in a drop down and apply it to whatever alt you want. They could have listed all alts that earned that achievement, would have made AwA a lot friendlier. I hate that I have alts getting credit for story content that is not part of their story RP wise just because they were earlier characters that did it first.

For me, it's not a cosmetic problem here, but more to fact that my alternative characters are needed for craft daily quest. And when achievements indicate that character I am not actually playing has received an achievement, it causes discomfort. As I have already written, I like to focus all my attention on one character. And these “Earned by” to achievements devalue (for me) these achievements.
