I've been unhappy about a lot of things with the game lately, to the point that I've barely wanted to play, but credit where it's due: the new sword dancer emote is really, really lovely.

It wasn't even on my radar as something I might want, but now I'm obsessed with it. My only small regret is that it's not a personality instead of an emote, so that my characters could automatically go into it when idle.

Well done, team.

I agree completely. I really want it, probably going to get it 4 times with SOE (2 accounts, both PC megaservers). It's really funny - good friend of mine posted this yt vid on another forum about 3 days before the emote showed up:

If that was me, I'd have cut off my clothes and then my head!

Oh, yes, I'm 100% certain I'd impale my foot instantly if I tried that. :D But it's awesome to watch!

It is! Exciting, beautiful, dangerous.... I was so glad he posted it, because I'd never seen anything like it before. And then to have the emote show up.... it's like FATE!

I was tempted to get it for my sword master toons... but as someone who has trained with swords, I thought the emote was cringey at a few parts and decided against it. :D Nonetheless I can appreciate the effort that went into it.

It is an awesome emote, my new fav!

Now if we could get combat animations that fluid <3B)

This is a beautiful emote. Really happy to see it.

...but... I'm a bit disappointed that they made it so you can't block cast this one. If you try, it just makes your weapons vanish before you pull out the prop sword.

There was a huge uproar when they tried to take that away last time. I really wish they did let us keep our weapons out for this - or even let blocking replace the prop with our weapon. Sure, it'd look weird with a 1H weapon or a bow, but that would be an awesome thing for us to spin our staves or 2H weapons.

The emote animation is pretty well done.

Those two videos were awesome and I love the emote as well. It reminds me of some of the forms I learned from the martial arts i study still.

Agreed, was a bit bummed to see that.
It will use my 2H IF I hold block as the animation plays.
Buuut, I still have that godsawful ugly block shield indicator showing, which just ruins it.
As soon as you let go of block it swaps in the sabre :/

Wish we could hide that dumb shield icon. Like, I KNOW if I'm holding block or not, our characters even have guard poses.
So I don't need that giant thing blocking half my view >.<

You can get your weapon on the emote, but it requires quick slotting the 'hide helmet' and using it as well as a well-timed block. It requires a lot of trying to get working, far more than other emotes, but it works.

For PC players, there's the addon "Custom Idle Animations" which makes the characters use various emotes when idle. It would need updating, though, as this emote is a new one.

I just think it's pushing it really hard to put an emote in the legendary category - I mean 100 gems is so much for an emote (or I guess for anything really) - we really have become blind to how expensive cosmetics are allowed to be.

not gonna lie, would have been mine already if it were 40 gems, but 100.....I'm dwelling on it

Does this (rather expensive) emote work with staves, or must you have a sword equipped to use it ?

By default, like all but 1 prop using emote, it simply hides your weapon and uses the redguard sword. You can get your active weapon to show up with it, but it requires more work than the usual emote to trigger.

Yes! I've never considered an emote worth the seals/gems, so I almost didn't even bother previewing it, but this one is really nice. If it were superior or even epic I'd get it.

That's fair. I had more than enough endeavors saved up, so that's what I used to get it on both servers. I was never going to use my endeavors for anything above legendary, anyway, because I can't think of a single apex mount that I've ever cared about; it's just not my thing.

Most of the things I like are usually in the superior and epic tiers, so I almost always have enough spare gems for those. I'm able to get most of the free Twitch drop crates, and then I usually let myself buy one four-pack of crown crates per season, with the crowns I get from ESO+. Then I deconstruct everything I can for gems. So it's rare that I ever buy crowns... probably less than once a year, and those during a sale.
