So Broken

Yet another event and it all goes to hell. We keep hearing how they are working to fix this game yet it just get worse and worse. They just slap bandades on top of festering wounds and tell us all ok "We are aware of the problem and working on a fix" but it is so temperary if they fix it at all. Otherwise it is just ignored like countless bugs that just never get fixed [snip] They will never really fix this game to a state where an event or dlc. expation pack reaks absolute havic and fustration for many players. I hate that I love this world, game and community so much. As much as I loath Zenimax and company, I love The Elder Scrolls and always will, and they know it!

I think things will get better! I really hope this is the right link I had on my clipboard. But Gina says they’ll finish sharding by the 5th and then replace the old hardware.

While it must feel like there's a lot of reason to lose hope about the servers improving, I want to point out this slightly understated note from the dev thread about the PC EU sharding happening on April 5th:
Additionally, completing this maintenance now will allow us to begin work on replacing our megaserver hardware sooner (more news on that as we get closer to it happening).

I am just so tired of broken promises and lack of communiction. The performince just keeps degrading and bugs just are ignored or keep comming back after they say it's fixed. [snip]

Can't even enjoy the event. I try to just get one quest done for tickets and it takes forever. The game used to run so smooth for me but after the update it's unplayable.

The servers are great! Not as good as yesterday but certainly better than tomorrow!

After the server came up after emergency maintenance I got in and was playing in Cyro for 30 mins with no issues. But when I ported to Imperial City, I didn't even get a loading screen, just a black screen, and my GPU fans went to full speed, and my computer locked up with the BSOD. Rebooted, and here I am.

Having lost connection with the server 3 times so far and still having long load screens, I doubt their supposed fix is going to last very long. Soon as the daily rewards come out tomorrow the game will be unplayable again.

Did you guys check the bug report section of the forum?
There is a workaround for FPS drops. It's not what I had hoped for and I didn't get one single reply from an admin, only players...I must say it was a bit of a let down, but anyway, the fix does work (not 100% but better)

Yeah, sharding PC/EU during an event that is directly followed by another event, because it went so well on PC/NA.

Also, Gina said "replacing our megaserver hardware sooner". Sooner, not soon. That could still mean by the end of this year or even later, just "sooner" than ZOS wanted to do it before.

maybe they can remove more features from the game for "possible backend performance improvements",

its probably achievements, delete the rest of our achievements, thats probably whats causing it, thats definitely whats causing it, delete them all, max character slots 1, inventory cap 10, put content on a cycle so we can only enter 2 dungeons per month, cap number of dungeon and trial entries so you can only enter once per day

I mean, they did say that the sharding didn't cause the issues on PC/NA. That was an unrelated hardware problem that flared up at the same time.

Well, I hope you're right. afaik ZOS identified and solved the hardware problem, but PC/NA players are still complaining about login issues. Now I'm wondering if those issues are caused by sharding, because this is the only known difference from PC/NA to PC/EU.

Guess we'll see after next Maintenance.

The Top Dog himself said they were not.
On Tuesday, with the understanding that the problem was probably not connected to DB Sharding at all, we traced every log we could find to figure out where the bottleneck was and we finally found it – the issue was actually caused by a bad (as in failing) network port that was unable to process as much bandwidth as it was configured for. It wasn't a software problem at all; it was a hardware failure that, in essence, slowed down the entire megaserver. Tuesday’s maintenance was to take that device out of service and reconfigure a replacement, and once that was up, everything returned to normal and the DB Sharding process ran as intended: behind the scenes and with no player impact.

So that hardware problem, being identified, has been fixed right? - so everything must be fine again...
