"The Year Of Performance"

2020-2021 has come and gone and I think we can all agree things on the "server" side have gotten significantly worse. Every single event is riddled with problems, PVP is an absolute joke (just stay out of Gray Host isn't an honest response to the lag.. you shouldn't have to move to a different campaign to have a less lagged experience), queue system breaks more than it actually works, ect. ect. ect.

I'd love for someone higher up in this company to put their foot down and ask the hard questions. Full stop on all new content until the underlying issues are fixed. Money isn't an issue so what is it, lack of talent (judging by the insane amount of job openings), or is it just a lack of desire to fix it.

The communication (up until the update 33 post) has been a pathetic attempt at passing blame and a lack of accountability.

It blow my mind that this game has been around for as long as it has and people are still screaming about the exact same things... 4... 5... 6. years later.

Maybe they meant it literally and 2021 was indeed a year of performance compared to 2022 (which frankly has been awful).

Explorers event was unplayable and now I cant log in for this event.

2021 performance looking pretty good looking back from where we are now!

We may someday look back on the “Year of Performance” and wish things actually still worked that well.

The biggest reason why I cancelled my eso + account, maybe if it hits their pocket they'll finally get around to fixing serious issues instead of adding more content. I wonder how they sat around at the developer meeting and kicked around ideas like "fix the server? Nah, let's introduce a card game!"

This is what is so frustrating... the optics. Like, imagine from our perspective just how bad the servers have been for so many years...then you announce a friggin card game in game.

    That's Senior Combat Designer

    Keyword: Senior.

You likely need to have worked in game development before, have multiple shipped games, and be familiar with game development tools and production environments.

Actually, 2020 was the official "Year Of Performance." So we're a few months into the third year.

Yeah technically it was 2020. 2021 was their attempt to test different things hoping to work around it somehow getting worse, and now we are in the year of "wait for code rewrite and/or sever delay" or something. Next year will surely be another year of waiting for something else; and each year after that and so on until they are out of enough players to string along with hope and close the game

I don't have too much knowledge of that area, but talent in those fields may be scarce for the region. Jobs are a dime a dozen in the area I live in, but getting people/businesses to stay is difficult due to the cost of living, politics, and leniency on crime.

Seeing those positions are for eso it makes me wonder if the original people filling those jobs for the eso project got moved to a new game project zos is working on. And even if zos fill those positions the people filling will need to spend months going through the code/architecture to understand how it functions and how to improve it.

If zos is planning to recode and restructure the whole server system as they have posted in other threads, I don’t think they will have a finished product until 5-6 years from now. They might as well just make eso 2.0 at this point and rebuild the game if they are planning to keep the mmo portion of the elder scrolls ip going.

Glad to report that Update 33 did have a noticeable performance improvement for me as a PS5 player! :)

I’m referring to loading screens in general but especially loading the character select screen, logging into characters, and logging out of characters. In fact logging out of characters legit only takes a few seconds now before I am back to the character select screen. I also did not get any errors/permanent load screens etc that used to happen when swapping characters too fast. I also did not have fps drops in vSS or vAS I ran recently.

Not saying things are perfect by any means but this patch seems to have been an overall positive step in terms of performance improvements.

Same here, unfortunately until next gen consoles are more accessible some players are going to have to accept their performance problems. I don't see much performance improvements for PS4 ESO.

Do PC players with next gen CPUs and 3080's need to accept this performance - asking for a friend.

Outdated console vs maxed pc are two totally different animals.

My response had nothing to do with PC performance concerns? I was responding/agreement with the comment about PS4 & PS5.

I quit PC gaming years ago, never looked back. Odd though a couple thousand dollar PC has issues, & my 500$ PS5 performance is pretty great, except for server zergs.

PC NA we had this only for a week. Not it's longer load screens, poor latency, no group finder

I don't see anything I would associate game direction or testing. Generally testers have something alluding to quality or product assurance in their titles. Ideas and brainstorming I would expect to come under lore for storyboard type stuff or product architect for the more technical stuff like server design and/or game code implementation.

Yes they do need to slow down or stop development on new content, updates from PTS are being rushed through without bug fixes just to keep up with their time table. This is hurting the game.
