I just heard that ESO is going to get rid of the launcher and we'll have to go thru steam to login. I'd like to say I am categorically against this!! I don't use steam. I don't enjoy having to go thru another site to login to a game. It uses more resources that way. Why are they doing this!?

Research it. You’re misinformed. If you don’t use Steam, don’t worry about it.

might be confusing the bethesda.net launcher with the eso specific launcher (because i think you could get eso through the bethesda launcher)

the bethesda.net launcher is what is going away

If true, that would be the end of it for me. I don't like and won't use steam other than for Skyrim (where steam is never allowed online).

Bethesda/Zenimax has its own launcher, so I doubt they are going to force us to only use Steam anytime soon.

I only use the ESO launcher to install updates, haven't used it to actually launch the game for years.

About launcher was posted on Bethesda.net* for who is curious.
I doubt it concerns ESO as it launches through its own launcher and not through bethesda.net launcher and games owned/purchased on Bethesda.net.

A: No. The Elder Scrolls Online is unaffected by this change."

I said the same thing when skyrim came out, since then, and +$20,000 USD worth in games I'll never play later, I'm still on steam and use it as well for ESO.

I like steam as a service - but with ESO I buy directly from ZOS - why would steam need a cut from their income, it has no advantages over what ZOS offers directly with ESO. For other games I like steam because it offers me a way to test first, if that game is what I expected and if it runs fine on my hardware - if it doesn't and I have played less than 2 hours, I can get a refund on my steam wallet - I used this feature a couple of times and I got refunded within less than a day.

It was necessary to download CK from the launcher, as there weren't any other methods for it. Beth.net launcher wasn't needed to run the program though. But it was mentioned in the article, that the 64-bit versions of CK (Skyrim SE & Fallout 4) will be added to Steam as well.

Yeah, I meant downloading it - little fuzzy headed (too many antibiotics this week). I should grab a fresh copy of CK before the launcher goes away - last time I used it (years ago now) it had some wonkiness going on.

I'm just really allergic to "game front end" stuff.... I've been managing games on my own on my machines since the mid-80s and honestly don't see any good reason to change now.

What I REALLY want is for Skyrim to show up on GOG. Yeah, I know that's never going to happen.

From what I understand the reason for Bethesda.net going out is a Microsoft thing. Less we forget who now owns the company. No one knows exactly how the Creation Kit for Skyrim Special Edition or Fallout 4 is going to be presented and available. They have not released any information other than the notice of the termination that will take place a few months from now. Steam isn't going anywhere and Microsoft would be stupid to let Elder Scrolls go. It would be very bad business and a costly mistake. Everything that has been made will be available some how some way. Just not what we have grown accustomed to over the past decade. All of the Elder Scrolls games except for Oldrim (Original Skyrim) and ESO are now available on the Microsoft Store. I tried them from there but other programs such as LOOT and Wrye Bash have a big issue in communicating with the games gotten from there. Basically they don't. I figured out how to make LOOT work. You have to go into a file and manually type in the installation directory. Wrye Bash on the other hand won't even install and it is in my opinion the best way to install mods.

i know for fallout76 (which both me and a friend did have on the bethesda launcher) they are allowing to get it for free on steam

not sure what will happen for the other games but could probably also get steam copies of them too

No one knows exactly how the Creation Kit for Skyrim Special Edition or Fallout 4 is going to be presented and available.

Full list of things that get transferred to Steam:
    • The Elder Scrolls Arena
    • The Elder Scrolls Daggerfall
    • Creation Kit for Fallout 4
    • Creation Kit for Skyrim Special Edition
    • Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory.

I agree. Most PC players are not through Steam and Zenimax probably benefits more from direct sales than third-party sales such as Steam.

I would also expect this would be well known vs just something in the rumor mill since rumors are often false.
