Wish: all my appearance options available on my companions

Two wishes:
  1. Companions should have access to all my appearance options: markings, hair, jewelry, etc.
  2. Companions should keep up. All the combat pets do; some annoying so. Why do companions trail so far behind and then stop 5 paces back? I've got bears and Daedra that are friendlier than my "companions".

I'll tell you right now, you want your companions at a distance! As it is, they already get in the way of many targeting instances!

Bastian the Werewolf Lord. I'm good with that.

I think for future companions, they should allow people to use the character creation system to make them look how people want. That would be a huge hit I think.

The companions are their own individuals. They are not your characters they are NPCs and should keep their own identities. It does get kind of goofy seeing half a dozen Mirris around a dragon but we shouldn't be able to turn them into basically anything we want.
and then the parrot said, "must be the water mines green too."

Agreed. They could still be voiced and have a personality and a story, but we could choose the appearance. I've always wished I could change Bastian's appearance. I don't particularly care for his looks or personality at all, and I don't really enjoy seeing a million clones of the same character running around everywhere. I'm sure there are plenty of other players who feel the same about either companion.

I'd also love to be able to use my accessories and polymorphs on them, along with equipping hoods and helms on them.

    And on another note:

In threads like these, I frequently see the comment "companions are their own individuals and you shouldn't get to customize them!" I get that people feel that companions are their own individuals. For those people, there could be a default appearance and they could keep that standard appearance for their companions if they feel they must adhere to what ZOS has given them. There's nothing wrong with that way of playing. On your account, with your characters, you can play the way you like and treat the companions as individuals you cannot and should not change.

However, when I am on my account, playing with my own characters and companions, whether or not I customize them and create my own stories for them is my own business, not anyone else's. Just because you wish to play a certain way and follow certain rules, does not mean that the option for customization should not be available for those who do not want to play the same way you do. Having the ability to customize a companion further does not alter your own way of playing or stop you from following the gameplay rules you have set for yourself. You can simply not use the customization options, while others can.

It does not interfere with the way you want to play for others to enjoy companions differently, nor should you impose your gameplay style on others.

Personally, I don't think of companions as NPC's I should not touch- as soon as they are on my account, they're a part of my story now. Yes, they have their own stories and base personalities handed to me by the game, but as a storyteller and roleplayer, I have the freedom within my own mind to elaborate on those stories and what they become in the presence of my characters. From my point of view, when a game gives me a companion, they have handed me a ball of clay that already has a vague shape of its own, but it is up to me to give that clay its final form as I play out my characters story. Whether someone else thinks that's an okay way to play or not doesn't particularly worry me, since it's how I'm going to play anyway. It's a game, and I'm here to have fun in it, not follow any particular set of rules.

I can also appreciate that there are players who like neither Bastian nor Mirri and would use them if they could alter their appearance entirely. Some might even want to ignore their story completely, and as far as I'm concerned, that's perfectly fine. You paid to have access to them, you do what you want with them on your own account.

    Long story short, I'm in full support of extreme levels of customization for companions and even think customization should be retroactively enabled on past companions. I probably wouldn't touch Mirri's appearance since I'm rather attached to her and enjoy her, but I'd love to change Bastian and give him a mute button >.>;

I guess I just don't quite understand the mentality of people who want to keep others from playing freely with their own companions simply because they wish to play within the constraints of certain rules. Others don't have to play that way just because you do, and your play style can still exist even if others aren't following along with it.

    Legends never die
    They're written down in eternity
But you'll never see the price it costs
The scars collected all their lives
When everything's lost, they pick up their hearts and avenge defeat
Before it all starts, they suffer through harm just to touch a dream
    Oh, pick yourself up, 'cause
    Legends never die
