I fell for the Crown Crate sale AGAIN!

I swore off buying crown crates years ago as I have epic bad luck with them. But with the sale today, I figured I'd give it another try and bought 15.

Here are my results:

Crate rewards in total from 15 crates:

9 Scorianite Gladiator pieces I already had
2 head pieces I already had
1 facial tattoo I already had
1 Body tattoo I already had
3 pets I already had

Total gain: 0 items, 81 gems

Why do I continue to fall for this?

(NOTE: The body tattoo I got was the FOURTH time in 30 crates I'd gotten it. Someone gifted me 15 crates at Christmas and they contained three of that anvil tattoo.)

Well it's done now, so not point dwelling on it.
But I will say and hope to see the disappearance of the crown crate system and all the silliness involved (No bash, personal opinion), and don't worry we've all been in your position.

It seems like you already had a lot of the items. I think when you reach that point, it's time to stop trying your luck.

Yeah. Just the epic items though. In 75-90 crates prior, I have yet to get anything higher than Epic. And I still keep trying!

(Actually, I probably buy 15 every 2 years or so. but people keep gifting me crates thinking they can change my luck. lol)

As much as dislike the crown crate system and don't want to defend it in any way, if you already bought/were gifted enough crates from a season that you are only getting duplicate items, converting everything to gems (I mean, do you really find those poisons and soul gems worth keeping??) usually results in close to 200 gems for 15 crates, not 81.

It would be 75 gems for the duplicate items you list, assuming they were all blue (the worst you can get), and assuming you only got four cards per crate (again the worst outcome possible) that would leave you another 45 consumables that could each be converted for 1 gem (in practice they often go for 2, but 1 each is again worst case), so even assuming the absolute worst luck possible (no cards above blue, not extra cards, no consumables worth more than 1) that's 120 gems as a minimum, which is a fair bit more than 0 items and 81 gems.

Pretty much. I have never bought, nor will I ever buy crown crates. Or lottery tickets. These are poor financial decisions.

I've had to stop myself from buying crown crates. The drop rate for decent items is insane. I've opened 30 crates and didn't even get an Apex mount out of it. They are simply not worth it.

Perhaps it's time to add a gambling addiction warning to the crown crates window. Personally, I'd like an option to remove it from the interface entirely.

It probably matters to them *when* you spend the crowns. Ongoing inflation reduces the value of the crowns over time, so the sooner you spend them, the better deal you get.

Casinos also give you chips lol. And how do they get you to buy more Crowns or chips? By tempting you with small odds into spending all the ones you already have so that you need more.

If that were true, then there would be no need to sell gamble crates. ZOS would instead sell all items for a flat price instead of locking them behind layers of paid RNG.

Buying exactly what you want is a win/win for both parties.
    Versus
Buying crown crates for a chance to get, or never get, what you want.

It probably matters to them *when* you spend the crowns. Ongoing inflation reduces the value of the crowns over time, so the sooner you spend them, the better deal you get.

Inflation on PC has nothing to do with the House, which is ZOS. They don't care beyond not wanting it to drive players out. They do care about speed you spend them, but only if that results in you buying more crowns.

Inflation on PC? I'm talking about real-word inflation. The crowns are bought with real-world money, which is subject to inflation.

I bet we would all be blown away if zos released what they make yearly on the crates alone. I bet it's in the millions. I would put them in my games as well, and let the whales and the irresponsible go to town.

Ah. Well, even then, once you've already purchased the crowns it doesn't really matter to zos when you spend them as long as you continue to buy more. The inflation part really only matters prior to purchase.

My apologies, I probably wasn't clear enough. What I meant was, not only does the real-money cost of crowns inflate over time, but it's also possible that the cost in crowns of various crown store items inflates over time (in which case, the owner of the crowns is better off spending them sooner rather than later). I'm happy to be corrected if I'm wrong about the latter, though. :)

    Ohhhh! Now I get you.

Yes, you're kinda right there. While they don't increase the cost of particular items once they've set a price, they have creeped up the costs of similar items that are newly released. So that's true!

Its all haze and rng, and the gambling psychology manipulator they have undoubtedly built to manipulate me to buy more crates based on my buying patterns...

But i feel like saying since endeavours, the odds of getting anything nice in the crates have tangibly been reduced. The other possibility is to make up for the gambling losses they've tightened the odds everywhere.

Having said, i only use crates to make up gems once twitch drops put me in range of something so im in group X, away from the main gambling modes i think.

This is why I love when games give you "free" crates - they're a wonderful demonstration/reinforcement of why you don't want to spend any actual $ on them.
