Why would I not want to keep track of what my characters are doing or have done?

You'll have to ask ZOS that question. It's not for me to tell you what you do or do not want to track and I have no say in what does get tracked.
Personally, I like the new system because it works for me, but at the same time I can also empathize with those that don't like all the aspects of it.

Sorry. I didn't mean to vent on you. I just don't understand why they would do this to something that has worked perfectly for 8 years. Now I am seeing nothing but problems, and it's very frustrating.
As you can see in the screenshot I have been here a while, and I don't recall anything as bad as this patch.
