Stealth distance

Ok so I see a lot of posts on stealth and what reduces it but I can not find any information on what it starts at and is there a max that it can be reduced?

What is normal stealth distance before you are seen normally excluding detection pots and such?. ( I know that some things can make you easier to be detected)

What is the normal speed for stealth compared to normal travel?

What is the normal cost of stealth?

Also it seems to be a percentage of you stamina so having more stamina doesn't seem to help much or has this changed?

Is there a min distance you can reduce it?

I don't what to waste resources reducing things when it doesn't help.

Thanks!

So I found this information but I don't know if it is current:

I made a post about this, but a thread might be better for the search function on the website to see it better.

This is work done by phoenix12 on Tamrielfoundry.com. I am just formatting it.

    Without Racial or Armor bonuses:
o Detection radius is approximately 4m when directly behind an enemy. (closer than this results in being detected)
o Detection radius is approximately 15m when directly in front of enemy. (Closer than this results in being detected)
o Detection radius describes the radius the target can see you, ie…this radius emanates FROM target.

    With Medium Armor Bonuses
o Detection radius is approximately 2.6m when directly behind your target. (4m minus 35%)
o Detection radius is approximately 9.75m when directly in front of enemy. (15m minus 35%)
o Basically, this bonus reduces your targets detection radius.

With Racial and Medium Armor bonuses
o Detection radius is approximately .65m when directly behind target. (4m-3m minus 35%)
o Detection radius is approximately 7.8m when directly in front of target. (15m-3m minus 35%)
o These bonuses do stack, the racial bonus pushes against their detection radius.

These numbers are not offical from Zenimax, however Phoenix12 did do extensive testing to come up with em.

Thanks Phoenix12 for the work on this.

Please feel free to reference this, bump it, rate it AND/OR correct it with other numbers and please show your work.

the stealth penalty and cost of stealth is in your character sheet advanced stats

i think speed penalty by default is -50% (can be negated through sets or vampirism) and i stealth cost i think ticks 2x per second but only while you are moving, and it is a fixed value that can be reduced

my current stealth toon has it reduced to something like 9 or 10 stam cost per tick (down from like 80-90 base, dont remember exact number), at this cost even without darloc brae i can still stealth across an entire zone before it uses even half of my stam meter on a mag toon

as for stealth detection, the default NPC detection radius does vary slightly depending on if you are in their vision cone or not, it is easier to stealth behind the back of an NPC than directly in front of them

i believe the detection radius in their front is between 7 and 10 meters base, and the detection behind is between 3 and 6 meters (i dont remember the exact values)

stacking a lot of -detect radius basically reduces their value that they can detect you (to a minimum of 0, which means they cannot detect you even if you are standing almost on top of them)

i have my main house (grand topal hideaway) listed in the housing tours, it has multiple target dummies, scribing altar, and grandmaster stations (in progress being filled out), as well as almost every antiquity furnishing on display to preview them

feel free to stop by and use the facilities

    Thanks for the info!

I will look at the character sheet and see what it says.

The sheet only tells: sneak cost and sneak speed

On my Imperial nightblade (no stealth racial), I use 3 piece Night Terror, 4 piece Darloc Brae, and 5 piece Night Mother's Embrace. That allows me to walk right up to a guard undetected. But note that if you stay in their face for more than a half a second, you will be spotted. But you can move past their view without being spotted most of the time.

Remember the green CP stealth buff who equal Khajiit racials.
With 3 stealth sets before the CP sneak benefit I did some achievements on an Khajiit NB, steal a million gold and murder 1000, noticed I was undetectable as in enemies was pushing me around then sneaking.
Some npc like guards and Bosmers had an bonus to stealth detection.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

On my Khajit NB with both the stealth pieces of armor I can practically sneak right by people under their noses. NPCs at least, haven't tried it with other players. :)
