Armor resistance versus spell/physical resistance

What is the difference really?

Some sets give armor , others give spell resistance or physical or the both combined…

How does penetration related to these 3 different kind of resistances ?

And in our mainstat sheet. If you have 20K armor … and 8K spell resistance and 3k physical resistance ….do i then have 28K spell resistance 1’s 23K physical resistance ?

penetration basically works as the opposite of armor

straight +penetration gives both physical and spell penetration

your amount of penetration is basically how much armor you are ignoring on your target

so if target has 10k armor and you have 5k pen, then the target takes your dmg as if they only had 5k armor

This doesn't make much sense. You can only see final values of Physical and Spell resistances in stat sheets. These values will have already taken armor stat into account.

Armor is just a stat that simply increases both your Physical and Spell resistances by an equal amount. So if you are getting 20k armor from somewhere, your Physical and Spell resistances will be each increased by 20k.

Pretty much that -^ I'm not quite understanding the question. What are you seeing that's puzzling you? Those two numbers are often different because of things like racial, class and armor passives but not buy that much.

straight armor bonus is basically the same as giving equal amount of physical and spell resist

spell resist is dmg reduction against magic (magic/fire/frost/shock)
physical resist is dmg reduction against martial dmg (physical/disease/poison/bleed)

armor was one of the first things hybridized so a lot of sets that gave physical or spell resistance now just grant a +armor bonus

this works the same for your actual gear armor, it adds an equal amount of physical and spell resist to make up your "armor" stat (there are still a few things which can give specific resist types such as dark elf fire resist)
