ESO Base Game and Chapter/DLC Quests

Some quick backstory, I’ve been playing for about 5-6 years and always wished my hubby could play along with me sometimes when I can’t find anyone else to help with a boss or something. Well recently the base game with Morrowind was on sale for $5.99 or something and he actually bought it and started playing, much to my surprise!

I helped him get through the tutorial and on to the correct faction area, and get the Benefactor quest, then he went back to Daggerfall and he is doing all the quests there and hasn’t moved on yet. Problem is, he keeps picking up the quests for the various chapters and dlc that he does not have since he is not (yet) an eso plus subscriber. First it was Murkmire, then Elsweyr, he almost got the Western Skyrim before I warned him he could not go there.

I was just wondering if it might be a good idea to make a special marker for quests that lead to chapters and dlc just for that reason. You know, like the way there is a special marker for the main quests. I don’t know what the data looks like for new players, if a lot of them are like my hubby or if more players get bundles nowadays and can do those quests.

I recently started a new toon myself after a long time and got inundated with questgivers at the major faction cities, even I had to talk to a few of them before I realized they were leading me to a chapter area, which I did not want to do.

I absolutely agree that quests that lead you into a new chapter should have different quest markers and/or give you a pop-up warning before you accept the quest. “This quest will lead you out of your current zone and start a new thread of quests. Would you like to proceed?”

This gets requested all the time, why hasn't it ever been implemented?

@LoneStar2911 's pop-up suggestion doesn't even seem like that many lines of code...
100 INPUT "This quest starts a DLC storyline. Continue? (Y/N)", $ANS
    110 IF $ANS = "Y" OR $ANS = "y" THEN GOTO WROTHGAR
    120 IF $ANS = "N" OR $ANS = "n" THEN
    130 FOR X = 1 TO INFINITY+1
140 PRINT "Do you know how long I've been looking for you?!"
    150 NEXT X

For a new player who likes to do all the quests in area before moving on, its a total nightmare. I had to use 2 guides to navigate which quest markers I have to ignore to accidently not start next chapter or DLC. So idea about different markers (maybe coloring or smthng) is a great idea.

Having an small text at the bottom explaining that the quest is, like talking to Stuga its stating "starter quest for Orcinium" Or the various prologue quests. You also have zone faction quests there the last point you to the next zone but this should be pretty obvious.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

The achievement section does list the order of release of DLCs by listing them going from bottom up. Top being most recently released, with oldest being at the very bottom. IC followed by Orsinium, ect. I think it would be more helpful if they put chapters in their proper place too. Instead of just listing them all in order of release above the DLCs. They should be with the DLC section and maybe given a highlight to show that they are chapters.

    Thanks for all the replies!

It’s always nice to hear others are having the same issues and it’s not just me.

Maybe instead of a different arrow design for chapter or dlc quests (like the storyline quests use) they should make the arrow a different color like they do for daily quests, which are blue. That would be easier I think.

Yup. The system as it stands is pretty horrible. Ive lost count off the times I've picked up the battleground quest or order of the knies quest accidentally, or been stalked by some quest givers trying to basically doorstep me into buying dlc. It's actually a little off putting. I'd like that that they not only tell you they're dlc before you accept, but give you an option to turn them off and never see them again. I'm actually hoping that account wide achievements may make some of them disappear.

My understanding is that AWA will make those questgivers go away.

I don’t do the chapters and dlc for alts, but I wish the option to do so would remain. I did level up a second toon with Thieves Guild and was thinking of doing another, but I am not sure how that will work going forward.

@katanagirl1 - Missus, I feel your pain. My OH recently started playing too. He's a busy man and doesn't really have time investigate the best way way to follow the story. He just wants to jump into the game.

Because he gets utterly distracted by the myriad side quests and quest givers, I have attempted to mildly curate his game narrative. If I don't do this, he wanders off following the various bread crumbs, completely loses the thread of the story, gets fed up and doesn't want to play anymore (see all other story-driven rpg games he has played for evidence.)

This makes me sound like a complete control freak, but I'd much rather the various questlines were distinguished from each other so he can more easily follow them himself. I think your suggestion would solve this nicely.

Then I could stop yelling, "Don't talk to that guy!" across the room when we're playing the game together. ; )

    I completely agree!

I really want him to level up fast so we can do group dungeons together but he's totally happy just questing so I guess I'm good with that.

I told him I'd craft him gear at level 20 and he's almost there, lol. I helped him get some drop set gear but then later I have him show me what he has equipped and it's some random ornate gear, smh.

I'm always afraid if I pass on a quest when I find it, I may never get back to it. Even if it is in a zone I'm not currently working. I would absolutely love increasing the quest log capacity from 25 to 100 and be able to move 'maybe later' quests into an inactive subsection of that quest log (hence the need for a larger overall questlog). That way, I'd be comfortable I'm not missing anything (even DLC/Chapter quest starters) while still being able to keep my 'active' quests for the zone I'm working manageable and together.
