Anyone else feel like the next chapter just isn’t as exciting as they used to be?

I love this game and I love the stories and chapters they release but his next chapter doesn’t have me as excited as last usual. The reason why I’m not excited has nothing to do with the setting or Bretons because I am actually stoked for that and I love the medieval castles, knights, chivalry and all of that sort. The problem is the new feature just doesn’t bring any excitement in my opinion. I feel like the card game may be cool or whatever but as a main feature it is really upsetting in my opinion I waited a year after Blackwood announcement thinking we were guaranteed a new gameplay feature with combat because it’s been so long but here we are again and now I feel we will have to wait a whole another year or more if they don’t add one next years chapter. It’s just sad because I usually like to start a new character that fits the theme of the chapter and uses the new class or skills but there isn’t one so I feel like it’s going to get dull especially since I’ve played all classes. I was hoping since we got a breton dlc with would get a new magic weapon or a new class but I was disappointed. I hope they can see majority of us are unhappy no new skills or weapons were added and hopefully they add something in q4 dlc or something because this is disappointing in my opinion

I think the amount of excitement one gets from chapters is based on their expectations. For example for me Elsweyr was exciting and no other chapter excited me that way. Every chapter brings something new to the game, yes but after a while they always feel like normal. For example antiquities it just become normal these days and lost its first excitement. I believe every chapter will be like this.

Love the setting, but hate the overall sentiment of less is more ZOS puts into Chapters since Greymoor.

No, less is definitely not more.

When it comes to setting, High Isle really could be my favorite Chapter, but it’s let down by the lack of interesting new things or features and the focus of yet another - while in itself being a nice addition - a completely pointless fluff feature.

I joined in 2019 and was very interested in Elsweyr as well as revisiting Morrowind ( <3 TES III). The next two chapters I was rather neutral about because I wasn’t a huge fan of Oblivion or Skyrim nor am I as interested in the human races of Tamriel. I was interested in the new features, but not enough to want to buy before the celebration event later in the year.

This chapter is going somewhere NEW and I am hopeful that the story will be more interesting like Orsinium — never was a fan of orcs either but that DLC gave me more insight into their culture and I felt that the characters and story were more nuanced instead of clear-cut good-vs-evil which made it much more interesting! :)

Also I play trials now, so that gives me an added incentive to purchase now instead of later so I can play it with my guildies.

The new feature is the only downside to me. I don’t care what other games have done it; world-fitting mini-games could be fun but this card game doesn’t sound like the sort of thing that really fits inside an MMORPG.

The reason they're doing a card game is due to their circumstances. They're working on fixing pvp, and in order to do that in a balanced way, they do not want to release any content that will shake up pvp too much. That's also why pvp updates to sets have been minor unless the issue is a major one. They've said that they won't do a new class or anything complicated like that until they have pvp worked out, and it should be by next year according to them.
A card game let them work on something major without having balance issues pop up in pvp. That's the main reason for that kind of mechanic: though I do hope it will be good, the mechanics they're outlined about the card game doesn't sound promising.

Chapters originally offered a fair quid pro quo - I.e. we pay more and get a big update. Big maps. Hours of gameplay. Skill lines. New stuff (e.g. jewellery crafting).

Western Skyrim was an awful launch and while some of what we got was pretty nice, it was a fairly mediocre chapter shored up by Skyrim nostalgia. The same applies to Blackwood - the quest lines were distinctly mediocre and the landscape felt unfinished.

The trend is that we are asked to spend ever more, but what we get for that is ever less! And we don’t get what we want either. It’s not like there aren’t numerous lists of thing that us paying customers want to see. None of them ask for a card game.

I hope ZoS get the message sooner rather than later.

Ibought the last 2 chapters only with heavy discount (and therefor much later) because its just not that good or interesting anymore.

I would buy/preorder if there is something promising up in a new chapter, a real new feature a new class or an interesting sounding skill line. But a card game? Nah that can wait. For 5 or 10 bucks, i'll get the deal, before i have zero incentive to get it.

I'm much more excited when there was Greymoor (I don't like vampires and I'm not big fan of Skyrim vibe) and Blackwood (I'm not fan of Oblivion realm and swamps). Bretons are my favourite race since my first Elder Scrolls experience with Morrowind 20 years ago, so I'm very happy with not only Breton area but also more grounded story without saving the world. I also love beautiful islands with warm climate so for me this chapter is jackpot.

Yeah, cards as main feature are a bit dissapointing but I don't judge until I play it - maybe it will be really fun and still it's better than Antiquities which is nothing more than just more complicated way to get things (after hundreds digs these minigames are just annoying and exhausting).

I do see that being a reason but to be honest I feel like we have been seeing them struggle with pvp for so many years so who’s to say that will be fixed in the next year it can take multiple years. I feel like adding a new skill line and or class would spice the game up for everyone. Sure it might effect pvp but maybe it’s something that can be planned out to be implemented with the fox they plan to try this year. My point being is the longer they don’t add new gameplay features the more people will get tired and angry especially if pvp isn’t guaranteed to be fixed when they want it to be

Likely because they’ve not added a new skill line that is engaging or cool like psijiic or a new class in years.
Last time they added mythics that were solid as the only selling point if I remember right for last years right?

    Just my 2 cents.

The trailer was certainly underwhelming compared even to Blackwood's.

Other than that, I'm not sure how much of it is them and how much is me. I think playing for six years every day (as I have been), it's bound to run out of steam eventually. Elsweyr was the last expansion I found really exciting.

Actually, I would lay a bet that they are including a card game so they can have crossover events with ESO: Legends on promotional streams and whatnot. One hand shakes the other.

Don't care about new systems. I'd take a massive round of bug fixes over Companions or a CCG or a new Class or Race (though Jewelry crafting was needed and overdue). I'd much rather see fixes to what we have than more things that will inevitably be buggy and broken.

However, I do eat up new content. New story, the opportunity to live in this world some more. That's why I'm here.

So the answer to your question is no.

I'm pleased with what the upcoming Chapter seems to be. I love the classic medieval setting and more 'regular' questing - as opposed to ugly oblivion worlds and saving the world (yawn, again) from some silly daedric prince. I also suspect the zone(s) will not be tarnished by pompous indigenous jerks (the Dunmer of Morrowwind, Altmer of Summerset) who made me wish them failure instead of wanted to help or care about them.

No problem with the lack of an 'exciting' new feature. I'll reserve judgement on the card game but, honestly, there are already lots of big features and I'd rather see those improved/refined. Companions - the addition of two new ones is good. I hope also to see refinement of the companion system such as not dodgeroll-resetting bosses with most ranged weapons and companions able to carry a dozen or so pieces of their own gear to facilitate gear/role changes. I love the newer features we've seen over the last couple years such as companions, sets stickerbook/reconstruction, the outfitting system. This past year or so saw some wonderful improvements to making doing writs smoother and more friendly.

Personally I actually really like the card game LOL But honestly I do feel for the people who wanted cool new fancy combat things. But if ZOS is actually REALLY meaning to use this year to improve the game and fix a lot of the problems, they can skip giving us a chapter at all. The game has so many issues and problems that need desperate attention. So if they need to dedicate more time into improvements and less time into content creation, go for it. So imo the chapter is a bonus on top of the hopeful... HOPEFUL... fixes that will happen. I would rather them fix the current problems before adding more problems in the form of new combat systems. *really crossing my fingers that it actually happens*

When I think about the big new features dlcs added really the only one I can say I go a lot out of was Wardens. Necros are fun too but they're just not my thing.

Pjijiic, antiquities, companions... they all stopped being fun after a few hours and after that they were just another thing to grind tbh.

The card game doesn't particularly interest me but I'll reserve judgement until I play it.

Conclusion: 2 new classes in 7 years simply isnt good enough. New skill lines and gimmicks like antiquities arent much fun.

I’ve played since console launch and here have been the community’s general impression toward chapter reveals (at least from what I saw via discords, forums, ingame, etc):

    Morrowind: Enormous hype
    Summerset: Enormous hype
    Elsweyr: Enormous hype
Greymoor: Less hype than prior chapters but still lots of hype.
Blackwood: Far less hype than any prior chapter and first time people weren’t celebrating about it. Many people underwhelmed.
High Isle: The least hype ever for a chapter. Even the *official poll* posted by ZOS at the top of the forum showed 54% of players are unhappy with the reveal, 25% of players are mixed, and only 20% of players are happy.

Still undecided whether I should buy the chapter or wait for a sale.

Another problem with this expansion, it feels like High Isle was made like this just to give Breton's content even though from geographical standpoint it makes little sense given High Isle's location, it is north-west of Summerset so why is it inhabited by Bretons? why not Redguards of High Elves? giving it to Bretons is like adding Solstheim as Khajiit content.

Notice how with every passing year the chapter names become less significant?

We know what Morrowind, Summerset and Elsweyr are, then comes Greymoor, why is the expansion even named that? why is is tnamed after a building noone has heard of? should of been called ESO: Blackreach, then Blackwood and now High Isle, nobody is gonna know what High Isle even is.

The reason for it is a bit more complicated than that. They've stated that they've finally isolated the problem with PVP, and are working towards fixing it alongside something they're working on that I don't remember fully. It was in a press release and was discussed by a number of people in the ESO news community, but I can't for the life of me remember exactly what it was: but basically, other than balance, they don't have people to make new animations in ESO for the time being, since those people are hard at work on something else that will effect game performance as a while as well as the PVP issue, and the only way we were going to get new skills or a new class would be if the skills reused existing skill animations, which I know none of us want that. So it's a bit deeper than just the balance thing, but that was a main point as to why, and since I can't remember exactly what the other thing was, I forgot to mention it in my first post.
If anyone else knows about what I'm talking about, please do quote me and refresh my memory, since it'll be important in future conversations on the matter.

Plus, they are doing a big base game rework with the hybridization of skills. Not the best of times to add a bunch of new combat abilities to the mix, so no spellcrafting, spears etc either.
I don't like it, but it makes sense.

This chapter I honestly haven't even watched the trailer for, just a news article about information. Can't say it's interesting to me at all. Yay for Breton fans, but personally if I wanted a more grounded medieval game about humans that's almost every other game out there.

The Khajiit companion and maybe mythics are the only reason to buy for me. Definitely not a priority.

Greymoor was awesome, content about one of the main reasons this game stands out? (Vampires/werewolves) Sign me up.
