2022: No new class, skill-lines or professions?

To be honest I was a bit sad after the big announcement-reveal-stream recently telling us that regarding the Chapter the new big thing will be this "card-game". Nothing said about new skill-lines, classes or professions, because the big deal this year is that card game.

I was looking forward to something new and exciting to bring into raids or dungeons, try something new out, etc. but I can't see that card game adding anything to it.

I do look forward to the quality of life improvements like account-wide achievements and other ones to come, but regarding the excitement of giving me something new to do like new spells, new class (I even enjoy just running around farming skyshards) this chapter seem to provide nothing to it.

I play ESO for so long already (since 2012), but even only purchasing the chapter for the new trial seems to me a bit weird. I really do enjoy endgame content and playing around with skills, etc. but this year doesn't catch me that much than the other years (even the companion-system was a bit meh... just a weird grind and also adds nothing to the endgame content really because usually in dungeons or raids you're running around with a full group).

How do you feel about this chapter?

Feel the same tbh, only hope left for dungeons to be really on point and last quarter dlc to bring something refreshing. Any skill line would be better than none at this point.

will not preorder that is for sure.
I dont mind the story settings, not even bretons. But extras are as you already said pretty bland for a chapter.
Card game for a DLC would be ok.

It’s fine tbh, damage is too high right now that getting the latest meta set wouldn’t be deal breaking except for top end pve groups. As for pvp, you can just wait out a few months and just run your current build.

I will personally just wait for a sale. Just want you to know that not getting it is also an option, it’s obviously not worth the price for some people so just wait for a sale.

I think a feature like a card game is promising, it adds diversity.

Not all battles need to be won with violence.

When people enjoy a card game in ESO, I'm happy for them that they're enjoying it, but I don't see it as "the" new feature of the year. Why do I need a separate game in a game? It doesn't fit the gameplay for me.

I hope, I hope, I hope they don’t lock a new weapon behind a Chapter feature (unlike a skill line like Psijic a new weapon would attribute to P2W in my opinion) and we’re getting one in the Q4 update this year. They usually have other features they’re bringing in the base game updates that come with the DLCs.

I know this is a very naive hope, but…

My reaction to the card game was essentially; “OK, and what else?”

The card game is fine, I am sure it will have its supporters. But it hardly feels like a “tent pole” addition for a chapter. It’s fine in support, but to me it’s just a weird choice for a central selling point.

Maybe a stealth skill tree (finally)?
Housing improvements? Jousting, implies mounted combat, how about adding that? Something…

I think even if ZOS wanted to, they cannot add more things to the regular game - especially not any new class or new weapon.
Why? Because the old consoles (PS4, XBox) already are aching under the load accumulated by new things over the years. For me it seems like a wonder that these old devices still can handle the huge MMO ESO has become.

The card game is a nice trick for this year to avoid the hassle with the old consoles.
Because the card game will not add to but replace an ongoing game.

However, ESO cannot stay like this forever, because people get BORED. Bored by always playing the same lag fest in always the same Cyrodiil in PvP, bored by playing always the same classes and weapons in PvE.

For this year, people expected at least a new weapon for magicka.
A card game comes not even close.

It will be interesting to see what will happen in 2023...
Will enough people still play the same old stuff over and over again to warrant another chapter?

Assuming it's bug free. Last thing we need instead of more combat based gameplay is more clunky boring broken systems like companions were.

I'd be fine with a card game if there was more to go on this chapter but it looks like ZoS are just playing the same old excuse as usual. Hiding behind poor performance woes just not to release features and systems the player base truly wants. It's going to be Blackwood 2.0 lets all just be real here.

But we're still getting new skills in the form of gear sets, how would adding skills instead of gear sets make any difference for old consoles? I mean, race ultimates seem to be a balance issue that would break the game and old consoles wouldn't support it, but Dark Convergence which could've easily been a race ultimate was still added AND it's cost for free by using other skills or ultimates.
Gear sets are just new skills with extra steps. If anything, the card game IS a bigger addition than skills.
And that said, they said no new PvP updates until it's fixed, but there might not be a fix until 2023.

What exactly is it gonna replace? Legends? That's never been a part of ESO, there's nothing to replace there. I would say adding more pointless systems like that is the worst thing they could do if old-gen consoles are at their limits. [snip] They have been doing fine all this time, but now, all of a sudden they can't take anymore. Oh except a [snip] scrying and excavation (almost completely lifted from a children's game from 2006 btw) minigame which plays exactly the same every single time, the entire companions "framework" and a "brand new, totally complex, trust us guys it's the best we could do" card game, not to mention new areas and "rehashes" of the crusty old dolmen-style encounters.

From what I have seen so far on the PTS, I am not inspired to play past doing a few dailies, if that. The chapter reveal was only interesting to me because I like this game but I am not interested in card games. I would rather see gameplay related things such as a new skill line, etc. I am not interested in minigames.

Overall, in my opinion, what they have planned for the players this year is in the negative if you add in the fact that they want to delete the bulk of individual character achievements. I have tested that on the PTS so I am not just imagining that it is bad, it is bad. If anyone doubts what I am saying go to the PTS forum and read the massive feedback for account wide achievements.

Edited to add the link to the thread.

I'm a bit surprised, that this content is all we got, cause you know...Microsoft bought Bethesda, they expect ESO to show good results not to mention other new rival MMOs like Lost Ark(western release date is 11feb.), GW2 Exp. also in february, etc, but what about ESO?
No new REAL content since Morrowind, that's just bad, complete stagnation, it's like they've lost any interest\motivation to develop their game.
That's really sad, what can I say.
