Why does no one use lotus fan? PVE

Just a quickie, why does no one use lotus fan on magblade rotations? Damage is comparable to other single target dots, just more of it is front loaded, you get extra crit for slotting it, plus it inflicts minor vulnerability.

Am i missing something here? I would think this would be essential but nobody runs it in parses and it has me scratching my head

1. It does less damage than any dot I use on my nb.
2. Usually the tank or healer apply minor vulnerability. (At least in the groups I play)
3. It doesn't feel as smooth to use as other skills.

It's great for an opener or gap closer, but sucks in rotation as you find out it breaks rhythm with its wind up animation before it actually casts slowing everything else down especially while already in melee range. Things like Stampede or Focused Charge don't have such issues and are true instant cast gap closers as well without tbe additional issue if already in melee range.

In groups, the minor vulnerability isn't needed, and the damage isn't as good as other options.

For soloing, the minor vuln is nice, but again there are better damage abilities and bar space is a huge issue.

based on the PTS patch notes, the NB teleport strike actually has a 0.4 sec cast time (and always has) even though it was showing instant as cast time

in other words this skill is a good opener, but is too slow to use in regular combat

It's main debuff is applied by lightning status effects, and you can 100% guarantee in a good group someone is throwing down lightning or applying the debuff by a different means.

I'm going to try Lotus Fan with the Tormentor set some day, as it's the other AOE gap closer, aside from Stampede and, well, Leap.

Is it though? I think the direct damage portion is still single target, and then has an AOE DOT afterwards. I'm not sure if that would proc tormentor taunt as an AOE?

It's used by NB tanks but you can surely incorporate it on a DD if have space for it, we're kinda tight on a space already.

Can you let us know if this actually works, last time I checked the AoE was on the DoT's, so it' was a single target taunt with Tormentor... Shame, nightblade tanks need some buffs.

Last thing I am putting in a fast paced dynamic rotation with a 1 second GCD pace on a ranged class is a buggy gap closer (which I believe has a small cast/travel time).

Your head is in the right place, and there have been metas where I have seen this used, at least as an opener, but it's an extraordinarily clunky addition to one of the tougher rotations in the game.

Also, there better ways to get Minor Vulnerability.
