Why do radiant oppression exist?

Radiant Oppression: Burn an enemy with a ray of holy fire, dealing 9234 Magic Damage over 1.8 seconds. Deals up to 500% more damage to enemies below 50% Health. Increases the amount of bonus damage dealt to low health targets.

Radiant Glory: Burn an enemy with a ray of holy fire, dealing 9234 Magic Damage over 1.8 seconds. Deals up to 480% more damage to enemies below 50% Health. You heal for 20% of the damage inflicted. You heal for a percentage of the damage inflicted.

Why would anyone ever pick radiant oppression over glory for 3% higher overall damage? What the heck is the point other than getting super slightly more dps on a target dummy?

    For comparison
    slice deals 300% more damage
    executioner deals 400% more damage

Now that makes sense as it equates to 25% overall higher damage but 3% on radiont oppression wtf???

Uhm, how about in PvE group content? There is no point in sacrificing even a small amount of DPS on your strongest damage ability, when you get healed by your supporters anyway, especially on a class that has really good survival regardless.

Agree to an extent. The healing morph does have a purpose in pve content though. Magplars use if slotting vampire toggle skill to get the healing and it’s also still really nice in 4 man content if going for some of the more difficult clears and trifectas. The damage difference in 4 man content is really negligible tbh but in trials with more buffs it becomes more noticeable and less viable as healing falls much more into the healers.

I think a lot of people would question the self-healing one existing in the first place when Templars are pretty loaded with heals.

I think the better question is why would anyone choose Radiant Glory?
In PVE, let the healers do their job, focus on maxing deeps
In PVP, magplars are loaded with so many hots, you need a little extra burst a lot more than another heal

    This. Very much this.

Different play styles and interest in the game leads to different builds. It is nice having choices.

i prefer radiant glory, but thats because i solo a lot and having the extra healing while channeling is nice

radiant oppression i think used to have a much higher dmg compared to radiant glory because it had a scaling bonus based on how full your magicka was in addition to the execute

for me when i see them being basically about the same, i would probably go with the one that has the healing utility than no secondary benefit outside slightly better execute scaling

i have my main house (grand topal hideaway) listed in the housing tours, it has multiple target dummies, scribing altar, and grandmaster stations (in progress being filled out), as well as almost every antiquity furnishing on display to preview them

Radiant Oppression: Group content with heal support.

Radiant Glory: solo content or group content with no heal support (3 DD dungeons, toggleplars, other scenarios I'm not thinking of).

If you have a healer, anything is better than more healing.

*Unless you're toggling as a vampire and can't be healed so the healer has to use Olo so you can still get Courage.

Because it does more damage. If you need a quick heal, drop a Puncturing Sweep in there.

Seems like you take your choice of 20% heal or 20% extra damage. Both seem like ok options to me. I went with oppression but either way.

    heal goes from 0 > 20
    damage goes from 480 > 500

Not that heal does much on an execute ability anyway but both morphs are underwhelming is my point

    LOL

"Rely on healers" "trust healers" yeah and cry in corner when you won't have one in group or when they die or when You have unexperienced healer

Keeping yourself alive is how You can see difference between a good dd to parse monkey.

Heal is always nice and unless youre pushing for score(which I doubt anyone here does and I mean REALLY push for scores) you wont notice a damage difference

Honestly, half the stuff we debate in this game is like a 0.5% difference in dps. Hell, if you look at tests people have done between different popular damage sets, they often come pout incredibly close to each other. But some peopel really want that extra 0.5%. And if they've got a healer they trust, well, why not....

There's been times where using the heal morph has allowed me to play more aggressively when things have gone a little sideways instead of needing to back off and be defensive which has technically been a dps increase; granted it's a clutch situation, but still something to consider.
