How to tell a Static Target direction ????

Lets say Totems without clear facing, or that LoM plant boss ... DC final boss statues/totems ... no clear direction!

How do I tell where is the back of the target so I can backstab it?

Sometimes I get the backstabber bonus and sometimes not, I can't tell but keep spinning around it till I see a big number, very stupid if you ask me >.<

I must be missing something, is there a way to definitely tell which side the target is facing?

If targets are static, you can record then check esologs and memorize their direction, I guess

IF there's a back to those you can toggle on-screen numbers trying to flank from all the sides to see which side actually granting you backstabber. If it's rotating no chance kind of.
