What does this tidbit from the latest PTS patch notes mean:

Companions
Increased the threshold for summoning Companions in some instanced gameplay spaces from 2 up to a maximum limit of 4 total player characters and Companions.

In what instances does this threshold apply today and how will this change?

I'm assuming that's referring to trials, since you can only have 4 people in a dungeon. I wasn't aware that there was a limit to 2 companions in such an instance, so I'm wondering is this means there can be 4 companions at once in a trial and 8 player characters. That or instanced quest areas if you happened to be questing with 4 other people in the same group. I looked it up and found this though, from old patch notes apparently:

You are not currently able to summon Companions into groups that have 4 or more players + Companions present while in the overland or in public dungeons. This means a group of 2 players can each have a Companion, a group of 3 players can only have 1 total Companion and groups of 4 or more will not be able to have any Companions in these areas.

So with this change, a group of four people can have four companions :)

I figured it meant delves and public dungeons which would check population caps in addition to how many people were in your group.

But comments on PTS seemed to be this was about specific quest areas had stricter limits to how many people could enter at all if you were grouped with one other person.

This bug was fixed at least with overland and public dungeons. Our guild events, especially fishing night can have 6 players 6 companions in a group without issue.

Now you can go around with a party of 4 players with 4 companions tagging along! Still 1 companion per person; numbers in group dungeons, arenas, and trials remain the same limit. But hey you can have 4 of them in a trial up from 2, so if you have trouble finding people you can still run with 8 players and 4 companions on normal at least.

It isn't trials, as I have run cloudrest with 6 people and 6 companions - hint - its not as fun as it sounds lol

And you can imagine the fun when people have to go down in the portals and suddenly there is very few people left upstairs lol - especially when one of the companions was a healer!

At first I thought it meant we could take multiple companions into, say, a dungeon (one of us and 3 of them), but that would probably be too good to be true for those of us who solo. Now I think it just means that more people can enter certain instances with their one companion.

    Imprecise wording.

i think its this, i doubt we can use more than 1 companion at a time, but in some instances it was artificially limiting it to 2 total companions

i do not know which instances those are, because for 4 player content like group dungeons, you can use a maximum of 2 companions if your group only had 2 people in it since they were taking a slot in the group

maybe @ZOS_Kevin could clarify this lol
