A blacklist for GUILDS please?

Arato

Every day in Vivec a set of guilds [snip] spam everyone in the area with blind guild invites.
It's really annoying especially when you have dungeon finder queues running.
It's different people every day so simply blocking the individuals would exhaust block lists.
So I'd like to be able to auto block all guild invites from that cluster of guilds that are the equivalent of door to door salespeople and telemarketers please.

i know there are addons that can do this, i would have to check what im running to see which ones ( i think i have a few but dont use this feature so dont know which one it is, i could update this in a couple hours when i am online)

are these the guild invite links in the chat, or just random blind invites? (might make a difference which addon im looking for lol)

I have also had to deal with this issue on multiple accounts. They invite directly which I find extremely rude, especially since it seems to happen daily and often multiple times daily. I have asked them to be blacklisted on all their guilds, yet it seems to still occur. I now block and report as harassment since I have asked not to ever be invited and even suggested to be blacklisted to prevent the accidental inviting again.

I'd be very interested in hearing what ZOS thinks of this sort of behavior, though I'm not sure they would respond here.

I've also received spam invites, not once but multiple times from that guild, last one was in (Alinor) Summerset. Kind of wish zos would just crack down on guilds/users that do this.

Edit: and yes a guild blacklist would be nice.

Random invites in game, chat advertisements is "fine" I guess though they can get spammy but it's not disruptive when you're waiting on a dungeon queue to pop and accidentally accept a trash guild invite thinking it's your dungeon queue instead.

I should say at least with chat guild advertisements the onus is on me to contact a guild member and express interest in the guild. When it's these drive by invites done by this particular family of guilds.. it just pops up in your UI to accept or decline, and if you're expecting a dungeon queue, you'll accidentally accept guild invites because it looks the same. Same with duel requests but at least with duel requests you can set to auto block people trying to spam you with those.

there is an option in the "no thank you" addon to completely ignore guild invites

the option in the addon is "ignore guild invites" and settings are never (allow being invited), always (always block invites), and when full on guilds (only block guild invites if you have 5 guilds)

if its chat related, there is an option in "pchat" addon for anti-spam

    Completely Agree.

In all the MMO's I've played, never have I been so annoyed to see this guild, spamming Again and Again across my 6 characters. I think I've finally stuffed their spam by blocking enough.

But let's call out trash behaviour whille we can.

I fell for this kinda nonsense some time ago, someone with a new guild went into the Alikir dolmen run while people were waiting for group invites they were inviting everyone in zone chat hoping for people to accept the invite thinking it was a dolmen group invite, a lot of people myself included fell for it and then immediately left that guild.

I got no problem if they just put their gold link up in chat for people to check out but can't stand underhanded stuff like that let people decide on their own if they want to join your guild or not.

i never used the anti spam on pchat, but it looks like it blocks repeated messages and can filter all grouping and WTB messages, but i dont think it can specifically blacklist certain messages

it can block repeated messages for up to 3 minutes (mainly meant for actual spam in the chat)

i would have to look at the addons in minion but im fairly sure there is some chat addons which can filter out guild joining messages to fit that role better

"no thank you" is a fantastic addon that has quite a lot of options in it though for blocking notifications/messages, i have been using it for years now lol

I suggest editing out the name of the guild.

It is a shame a guild is that desperate for members. I would question the quality of leadership that does that but that is just my opinion.

I personally don't see a problem per se with guild ads in zone chat, but they should be limited to 1 or 2 lines out of courtesy to the other players using zone chat-- something like "[Guild: My Guild] is recruiting, if interested click link to read about us."

Invitations to join a guild can occasionally lead to good things-- if the guild is good-- but repeated invitations from the same guild can be a real pain.

I don't mind guild adverts in chat, but I agree it's annoying when they spam invites to people without ever speaking to them or any interaction. I always decline them and would like a way to disable them entirely. (Of course I would turn it back on when I want to actually join a guild, which I'd be able to do because I'd be talking to the recruiter and confirm I want to join before they send an invite.)

But having read this thread I'm now thinking about doing the opposite with some guilds. Accept the invite then turn off the guild chat channel, disable notifications from them and entirely ignore them. I assume they'd be ok with that since they didn't want to talk to me at all, and it would take up a slot and reduce the number of people they can spam with invites.

Sad thing is I think many of us can guess the guild in question despite that snipped text.

It's definitely worth googling and reading other forums before joining guilds.

I don't know. I've personally gotten "drive-by invites" from a large number of guilds over the years, and never saw it as a big deal (I just clicked 'no' most of the time, no skin off my back).

Can say that I accepted one recently a few months back, though (I was curious), and it turned out to be a pretty awesome guild.

That said, the idea of an addon to do that isn't a bad idea, as it could save the player who doesn't want to be in any guild the trouble of ever interacting with another player in that regard, saving both them and the guild a headache.

I probably have an addon for it, but I turned off guild invites, duel requests and trade requests long ago. If I am looking for a guild invite, I enable invites momentarily. As for trading and dueling... I initiate it if someone requested one of those.

    Good morning, all.

I am the owner of the community in question.

Before I start my formal response, I want to point out that many members within this thread have a history of joining our Discord server or our in-game guilds for fun to abuse us (using some words most people won't tolerate) and telling us to die (but in a much less polite way). This is directed to everyone online in the community, directly to me, and then again in whispers to a member that was actually depressed and genuinely suicidal. She was continuing to treat OP patiently and politely as his responses were persistent and nasty (clearly against TOS).

It is true that in years past random invites were our primary recruitment method, but a little over a year ago, I rebuilt the five guilds from the ground up and we now focus more on other methods that prioritize quality over quantity. The new strategies are far more time-intensive with less bodies, but the bodies that we recruit are better members and with interests much closer aligned with our community. Our primary recruitment methods are to recruit friends, in content, or from zone chat. Unfortunately, right now, there's two reasons why we haven't stuck to just doing the above.

The first is that ZOS has actually been banning us for zone-chat advertisements. Like, whole-on account suspensions for zone chat advertising. No, not for the random invites. For the zone chat advertisements. Like, linking the guild in the zone chat. I have had three staff members in the six months have their accounts suspended for zone chat advertisements. I've been discouraging my staff from doing this and encouraging them to recruit in other ways. This hurts the most because this is really the only way we can recruit for our trading guild. We're not just going to shoot some random joe a blind invite and be like, "pay our dues or we kick you". That's scummy.

Secondly, we have quite a bit of players that pull us aside and thank us for the random invites, and these members turn out to amazing guildmates. In fact, after OP left from his abusive rage in our in-game guild chat, members online that joined from random invites rallied and chimed in about how grateful they were and encouraged us to continue them. Easily 80% of the people that join from a random invite end up being grateful that they did. We offer everything that a guild can possibly offer in this game, plus more (game servers on other games, guilds on other games, mental health support, academic support, etc etc). Many of the players that we find this way don't understand the complexity of ESO. We are able to help and support them in learning the game, subsequently making not only our community healthier, but the game's community as well.

If anyone here is genuinely annoyed by the invites, I do sincerely apologize for them getting in your way. We can't really afford to stop doing them right now. When we can find enough staff members to support just quality-over-quantity methods, we intend to stop. For the time being, you can /ignore the person sending the invites and you'll stop getting them. If you whisper the person that invited you and ask to be blacklisted, they're usually polite and willing to.
    Danikat wrote: »

Yeah, we don't just ninja-invite people and then ignore them. 3-4 times per day per guild we have our staff and contributors do "RO"s, or reach-outs. In the past calendar week, ROs have went out to guilds 64 times.
An RO is when my staff members whisper new members, introduce themselves, chat a bit, tell them about what the guild offers (we have 5 ESO guilds, each with a different ambition) and ultimately try to help that player feel cozy within the community. We tell our staff members that the player should feel like they are friends by the end of the RO. Sometimes RO'ing a single person might take upwards nearing an hour if the person is chatty or has a lot of questions. We try reach out to people who join from random invites around 3-4 times per person with this system. It bridges the gap between lurker and genuinely interested member.

Before I go, we have addons that log all of our in-game chats to file.
I have asked them to be blacklisted on all their guilds, yet it seems to still occur. I now block and report as harassment since I have asked not to ever be invited and even suggested to be blacklisted to prevent the accidental inviting again.
To be fair, you didn't ask. You abused everyone in guild chat. When our staff members asked you what was wrong and tried to calm you, you threatened to continue to abusing us more and more until you were blacklisted. That's not really the same thing. (Our chat logs of this are timestamped 8/31/2020 around 2:19PM EST)

ZOS, if it's in your will, please check the chat logs of the OP on 2/1/22 around 1:11AM.

Even if random inviting was our primary recruitment method still, invites come with a decline button for a reason. Pushing it and moving on literally takes less than two seconds. Usually when people make a big deal about it, it's cases like this where there's something wrong (like they had a bad day or something) and they are just looking for a way to take it out on someone.

Considering as we're not violating the Terms of Service, it's really not anyone else's say as to how we run our community.

With that being said, I am sorry that you guys are annoyed. I have three staff members (including myself) that are addon developers. If it doesn't exist already, I would not be opposed to trying to get a guild-blacklist addon created so you guys can blacklist us and be safe from our invites. Maybe build in a "Block [guild] invites" button.

If anyone has some sort of auto-decline addon, please share it here so others can take advantage of it.

I also want to thank @ZOS_GregoryV and @ZOS_KageW for the moderation. If you feel that the details of above need to be snipped, please do not hesitate to do so.

I hope you guys all have a great day! :)

    Greetings!

We've gone ahead and closed this thread as it is no longer constructive. We would like to remind everyone that all posts should be kept civil, constructive, and within the guidelines of the community rules we have in place. As such, we'd like to specifically call out our rule on Naming-and-Shaming:

We do not allow posts or threads that are created for the purpose of “naming-and-shaming” other community member(s). “Naming-and-shaming” is the act of creating a post to call out an individual or group by name, and making them the subject of public accusation, ridicule and/or shaming. Generally, naming-and-shaming involves an in-game situation and/or Terms of Service violation, which the ESO Community Team is unable to assist with. A certain amount of rivalry and competitive razzing is healthy for any game community, especially one with PVP elements, but naming-and-shaming goes well beyond that. It typically elevates to a point where the subject feels legitimately harassed. We believe that naming-and-shaming posts and threads can be abused and are very harmful to the community. We also don't feel that publicly calling out or accusing others by name on our forums is in spirit of the game or our community. If you genuinely believe someone has violated our Terms of Service, you should report them in-game via the support interface — do not bring the situation onto the official ESO community forums.

Thank you for your understanding, and please keep the Community Rules in mind when posting on the forums.
