New ultimates and identity.

Hello, I was wondering what people would think about a few ideas I've been hoping Zos would implement for years.

I thought this would be the perfect time to bring it back up with the changes coming regarding to skills.

I would like the freedom to make my character however I like.

I would like all skills be available to every class. I think you should have the freedom to study and learn anything in the game.

This would also help balance the game as everyone can choose whatever they want.

I would like to see the Undaunted skill line to be updated with more than the current two passives it gives. It just looks weird to me as most skill lines have about 5 passives. Assault and Support skill lines could use two more passives as well.

How about an ultimate for the Undaunted skill line? Where is it? It has skills you can use...but no ultimate? It's always looked kinda unfinished to me. Also, years ago it stopped at 9.5 / 10. Idk, just saying.

Finally, I would love to have racial ultimates for each race!

This would help give some identity to your build.

Imagine a High Elf with some crazy fire, frost, and shock ultimate, or a Wood Elf with some cool nature ult...maybe that summons a giant lurcher to attack! How about a Khajiit that attacks with the power of the two moons Jone and Jode! A Redguard that summons a bunch of swords, a Dark Elf that has fire, or a volcano to attack, a Nord that summons a mammoth, or frost attack, an Argonian that attacks with a swarms of poisonous insects, and or water attacks!

It goes on and on. I think it sounds like it would be fun as heck to play, and certainly add some identity, and excitement to the game.

What do you all think?

Awesome, and technically possible by adding an active skill into the part of the race passives line

Awesome for the RP - however it may scare the minmaxers because this could ruin the meta and force them to rerace their toons. (But who cares about the minmaxers anyway?? ;D )

The problem with free-form systems is that they paradoxically doesn't increase diversity, they restrict it. Because what ends up happening is that most people will just pick what is best, and the other 95% of skills get ignored. ESO already has enough of this issue because of the way it handled weapons skills (very poorly, imo).

For example, if you play Guild Wars 2, the ranger greatsword attack is not the same as the warrior greatsword attack or guardian greatsword attack. That's more diversity because they are all forced to be different. But if there is just "greatsword attack 1, 2, or 3, pick what you want!" every will just pick the "best" one every time.

For another example, imagine if playing WoW you could just pick any skills you wanted. Instead of having a bunch of distinct classes and specs, everyone would just be playing the same weird hybrid character that makes no sense but has all the best abilities. It would be terrible.

ESO needs more class diversity and specialization imo, not less. Sorcerers should play nothing like Templar.

It'll work for about 3 months before everyone looks up the highest DPS setup and everything else goes to the wayside, all that work basically up in smoke. The players that like creative builds are in the minority, those that don't care about their output as long as they can get things done. The majority don't like to do the work themselves and will follow someone else's path to achieve what they want out of it.

So it sounds exactly like nothing changed regarding learn any skill. People will have what they call a meta, and others will make whatever they want with the rest.

How about the racial ultimates, and expansion of the Undaunted, Assault, and Support skill lines?

If everyone could pick any skill, why even bother having classes?

Racial Ultimate abilities would only work if they were non-damaging and utility only. Like Bosmer Ultimate 125: the cost of your core combat abilities (block, roll dodge, bash, sprint) reduced to 0 for 12 seconds.

Undaunted, I always thought they should get something like the Warden Bear where it summons a random fallen Undaunted Warrior to fight by your side who has either physical weapons or elemental staves. Like it could summon an Undaunted Warrior wielding a bow that does poison damage, two-handed that does bleed damage, dual wield that does disease damage, inferno staff, frost staff, or lightning staff. Recasting the Ultimate for 250 randomizes the Undaunted Warrior for another one. Morph A: Undaunted Defender, summons an additional Fallen Undaunted Warrior with one-hand and shield who redirects 30% damage taken by your group for 30 seconds. Morph B: Undaunted Mender, summons an additional Fallen Undaunted Warrior with a restoration staff that heals your group equal to 2% your maximum health every 2 seconds for 30 seconds.

I agree with you that ESO needs more diversity and specialization, but one way that could happen while also increasing choice is by requiring tradeoffs with choices (including limiting heals or tanky skills with certain damage skills chosen to encourage that trade off to be made). In the current environment, where more and more hybridization is done, it only hurts diversity, because as you said, people will gravitate to the best choices only. This is why some games overwhelm you with choice to the point of absurdity, as it becomes difficult to optimize in that scenario, and conversely why many games limit choice.

I'd be ok with a system that lets you play all 6 classes on one character, especially now with account wide achievements being deployed (depending on how that goes), but requiring you to choose only one class, or if they want to be creative you can get two with the requirement that you have certain restrictions if you do (like can't combine more than 3 skills from second class or something)

Perhaps choosing a class helps you learn certain skills faster and be slightly better at them. Your race should also have an impact in this area as well. I think with the way they are heading towards the hybridization of everything, this seems like a logical thing to do. Aftetall, are they not saying that they want to give everyone a choice to play the game the way they would like to play it, and are doing so by removing barriers?

By giving everyone a choice to have the skills would add a lot of fun to the game. Your playstyle would determine what you choose to have, and your class, and race would determine how effective those skills would be.

All skills available to all characters, but your class will make the class skills more effective (by more, I mean base effectiveness, class skills that aren't your class would be nerfed).Races should also affect weapon skills to a point.
This way people keep their identities while still eliminating restrictions.
But I doubt that would ever happen.
Support roles needed reworks, instead we got armory (so that support roles could still be dull and lame but at least you can now switch to the only role that matters in this game -damage).
So I doubt they'd ever release all skills for everyone, I still have some hope that maybe they'd introduce class change tokens (because I doubt they'd allow us to do that for free)

Aside from the all skills thing, I think the Undaunted, Support, and Assault skill lines need updating, and adding racial ultimates added would bring about identity and fun.

Mostly agree with you, I would prefer more class diversity. But on the other hand, I think that no classes and at all would still be better than this middle of the road system we have now.

All skills for everyone would be bad. Some of the broken stuff you'd have in PvP would be ridiculous. Plus it makes the class system irrelevant.

It's already going to be bad enough that they killing off mag and stam versions of the classes.

Freeform skill choice in this game would be terrible. Power of the Light, Shalks, Mages Wrath, Hurricane, Blastbones Executioner and Dawnblade. All in one go. One hit PvP everywhere.
