I always thought having at least 2v2 arena/rated matches would be nice, tie some cosmetic rewards to rating and I think a lot of ppl will be interested to have some quick pvp fun with friends
There is something that needs to be considered when suggesting a small scale arena format.
The way CC immunity and management works in ESO would make this format problematic from a competetive perspective.
The other thing is how much scrutiny and the "under the magnifying glass" effect small scale arenas would create in terms of balance. With this you have to carefully consider the format....
2v2 without a dampener effect would lead to stale mates
3v3 would come close to that depending on how much power is distributed to healing by each team member
4v4 same issue as 3v3 but potentially more pronounced.
Since ESO cannot force role restrictions, it's true a natural meta may form by letting players simply form their own groups with build makeups. But with any hope of a queue in system you are going to have problems.
Since eso does not operate around CDs outside of ultimates, match dynamics would end up being fairly shallow with drawn out set plays that are predicated on whether or not you can deplete the kill targets stamina pool. And if there is a healer, they are the kill target 100 percent of the time because there is no way in eso to coordinate crowd control or line up silences to secure kills on non healers, so all that will happen is you end up with damage arms races every match.
Unless eso combat system changes fundamentally in pvp, hyper focused small scale would only succeed in showing the warts in ESOs pvp design at its foundation.
3v3 is the best size in this case. 2v2 might lead to stalemates, but in 3v3 three players focusing one player will kill him, even if they are all bruisers.
3v3 also forces to think more about team composition. 4 players is 1 heal 3 bruisers without question, but 3 ppl with 1 heal 2 bruisers can be not enough damage.
