I would like to learn more about Direnni descendance to breton noblity and in general, what is the history of each great noble breton family.

I'd like to learn the nedic story in highrock, in merethic era, people named druids of Galen.

One or two books about that would be great. Even some artefacts, I don't know.

I know Potage Le Magnifique is part of lore, but I'm not entirely sure I want to see French cuisine directly referenced here. Breton culture should be more than just TES French or even TES medieval Europe. That said, I'd love to see some sophisticated dishes and desserts, with descriptions that accentuate their taste and aroma.

Definitely want to see Bretons shoot up my favourite race list like Orcs and High Elves did for their DLC/Chapter. I love the Breton Aesthetic, particularly Rivenspire. Classic ESO didn't really explore the Direnni relationship enough.

I love the medieval aesthetic Bretons have, but I really do hope they will make more of it than just that. I want to see Bretons get vibes from Antiquity, too.

If you guys have seen "The School of Athens" (who in the West hasn't), basically the way I imagine Bretons is these guys dressed in Medieval armor and clothes.

I would definitely love to see more lore on the Nedes and Direnni! In particular I wanna see how widespread emphasis of the Elven blood is in High Rock. Glenumbra's people in particular emphasize their Elven blood, but elsewhere it seems like the Direnni are seen as oppressors.

I personally Love Breton culture, I played a Gallant Knight (Which is Different from Holy Paladin in the Old White Box set) as my first D&D character when Dinosaurs roamed the earth.

However...I don't want to leave this expansion being a expert on Breton culture, there should always remain some mysteries and questions unanswered, if it it isn't that way you end up with no magic left in the world syndrome.

I honestly felt this was what was tried in Summerset and it failed miserably.

That's cool, where did you find that out?

I agree, though I think that mystery needs to be handled properly. It rings false when you instinctively know there was never any real thought into it, its just a "mystery" for mystery's sake. That's just lazy. Mystery is engaging when you can explore it. You may never find any true answer, but there are *reasons* in the world- things you can uncover, people you can talk to, ruins you can discover, things people may not notice unless they pay attention or search the right places- things there that make you believe one way or another.

some people like culture and races skills and lore..
if anything a lot people like and some dislike it its fine.. some people just wanna play a game to pass the time..
some have friends and make groups - guilds and are serious some people are..
some casual while some are on less..

content .. for some is too much while for some they need more--lol

the game has so many types of people wanting mor or less.. its up to the owner of game also the designers or the tec people in the company to all decide on what to place in the game or.. even to listen to the customers when placing anything new or old back in the game... the game is good and needs more freedom on skills or class choosing thou if anything from my thoughts but to others maybe not.. id like to be vampire-necromancer dark magic healer kinda mix.. but way game is at this time the freedom to choose is hard because of the limiting to class and skill lines or trees...

what ever the story .. and lore ..ill play the game has to be enjoyable to play .. teamwork is not must but to me multiplying games require team work and talking among each other.. wish was more social it is but more like ... judgmental acts thou from some make it hard and i understand that but still ill ignore them anyways.. no point in silly arguments about things games meant to be fun and enjoyable .. and it is that's what its all about..

Imo, it's implied by how Glenumbra's people are the only ones to celebrate the Day of Release, commemorating the Direnni victory over the Alessians at the Battle of Glenumbria Moors, while the Bretons of northern Bangkorai tell stories about how the Direnni were oppressors, High King Emeric of Cumberland (Stormhaven) tells us Elves were oppressive, and Rivenspire's Pale Order were known to hunt the Direnni.

Of course, there could be Elves emphasizing their Elven blood in other parts of High Rock, too, but I think that, based on how the Bretons of Glenumbra are the only ones to celebrate the Direnni, it's likely the majority of those who emphasize their Elven blood live there.

I dig it. I like that you can back up your theory. I also like the idea that there's at least some difference between Daggerfall and Wayrest. In TES2, they were mutually antagonistic, and in other lore, Daggerfall was described as founded by the Nords, and Wayrest much later by Bretons themselves. It makes sense that they'd have distinct personalities and feel quite different.

Just a remark, but it never ceases to amaze me how devoted some people become when they see the potential in the game.

Alas, I fear that your nickname @BlissfulDelusions may be true. Still, I will forever appreciate such efforts to promote lore.

I know this comment is directed towards Bliss, but I wanted to hijack it to say that I've been playing this game since 2014. I've got some of the hardest achievements in the game through blood, sweat and tears, and am part of a great community. But for me, that's all ephemeral and I'm sure I could find that in any online game. I'm here for the lore, and for the chance to play an Elder Scrolls character in Tamriel. Meta, drama, nerfs, buffs none of these things I really care about at the end of the day. The quality and immersiveness of the Elder Scrolls experience is what I really care about. The rest just fills the time in-between.

I'm hoping bretons and imperials won't be too similar. The buildings from the trailer are already looking too similar to the one they picked for Leyawiin, and the whole dev comment about taking inspiration from the Mediterranean. But my expectations are not high for that.

Hello, I salute efforts to promote lore too!

My concern lore-wise, is that High Isle is cool, with shining knights, wonderful, but the Breton racials don't exactly promote a knight (stamplar), but only a healer.

I am all good for a healer, I have a templar and he will be a healer in groups, but I don't see how the knight archetype shouldn't be promoted also, because it's not. How's that?

Breton racials, like +stamina granted as well, no more bonus in light armour because Bretons should use light and heavy armours, something to hit harder, maybie their cost reduction applied to stamina as well.

Keeping the goodness for the healer archetype though, I don't want to kill the Breton Healer.

Thoughts?

Please... don't ruin the Bretons with this chapter!

It will really be disappointing to see a typical bland medieval setting with magic that we see in hundreds of games!

I wasn't impressed at all with how Nords were handled in Greymoor. Usually drunkards or ***, which shouldn't be the case. I barely remember one unique quest that showed the Nords as something else rather than this meme.

Blackwood did not show much regarding Imperials, other than arrogant aristocrats. The setting and architecture was nice though.

So, I wish with High Isle to see how the Bretons have a deep connection with magic, how they have complicated feudal relationships, how they are eccentric and different than typical "fantasy setting" stereotypes. I really fear this chapter will be even shorter than Blackwood, so at least it should compensate through lore and uniqueness.

TES2 Daggerfall featured knightly orders besides temples and the other guilds. The player could not join multiple knightly orders, but it could join one and grow through the ranks doing quests which got more complex with rank. I would really love to see this feature in High Isle. Bretons have many knightly orders, so High Isle without one would be like medieval England without knights.

And don't forget magic!

To be fair to the developers on this one, the chapter highlighted decadence, which is one aspect of the Nibenese that can distinguish them from the Colovians. And any sort of distinction contributes more to Imperial ethnic dynamics than a mainline game ever has. Could they have done more? Maybe! And I'm hoping we'll see more still when we eventually get to visit the Niben Basin.

As to the magic stuff, Leamon recently hinted that they're super aware of the notion that "Bretons are boring" and have attacked that with relish in the upcoming chapter. So we have yet to see, but I'm excited.

Architecture that should've looked less generic medieval.

Yes, a lot. I'm being very worried we are going back to imperials and bretons still being way too similar.

Of course, I fully understand that ZOS can and have blundered with their worldbuilding. Even with Markarth, which was praised as a great DLC for what it did for Reachman lore, I can still point to how it ducked up by ignoring (or forgetting) the Markarth Sisters. This isn't out of malice, I'd like to think, because groups like the Jovial Lambasters who were mentioned in previous lore could later be met in Elsweyr. (Squatting in the Outlaws Refuge, but, still.)

I appreciate the kudos, but it's not all me of course. The four peeps I gave credit to in the OP helped a ton with proofreading and their own additions, and hey, even though I might disagree with @Supreme_Atromancer on some stuff (IIRC we butted heads a bit in another thread on this topic I made), I still respect his efforts and his own desires.

@Al_Ex_Andre Regarding Bretons in PvE, I think it's a different topic altogether, but I think I would like to see racial passives have less of an impact on PvE, and I say this as a pretty solid Endgame player. (I mean I'm trash, but I somehow wound up with Godslayer without paying for a carry, so I guess I did SOMETHING right. #humblebrag) I think Bretons are fine as is though, from a lore perspective. They have both extra magicka and magic resistance, which I think reflects what they're known for.

@kind_hero I REALLY hope they make Medieval Summerset with this one. I wanna see magic be flaunted, and I do mean FLAUNTED. Magical inventions, people casting spells in the streets for shizzles and giggles, it would be awesome! I want the Arthurian/Medieval stuff to be the main flair, the same way Nords are "vikings" and Imperials are "Romans," but I also wanna see them expand on stuff other than that.

As for Blackwood, I can't say it did too much for Imperials or Argonians, no, but it did point to Imperial expansionism, implications that power in Imperial society is hereditary with Caro in ESO being an ancestor of Caro in Oblivion, as well as . Imperial decadence was also covered, as @Supreme_Atromancer pointed out, with the various feasts and nobility joining the Waking Flame. Don't get me wrong, I do think Imps got a lot with Blackwood, but I agree they could have gotten a lot more. I cannot say I am unhappy with how they decided to give us so much Daedra lore, though.
