Can we have a change to Mages Guild levelling in 2022 please?

I've got to mage guild level 10 on 11 characters on Xbox EU.

Haven't done it in a while, as I've bought it on other characters.

Recently started on Xbox NA and I forgot how terrible this is.

Firstly, compare it to fighter's guild. You level that up as you go about doing whatever, fighting stuff and playing the game.

Compare that to Mages Guild where you have to drop what you're doing and go our of your way to get books.

Without an external guide (and no add-ons on console) I honestly think people would take months and months and months to level this. That's not a good design for an aspect of the game. Some are tucked away in places nobody would go.

And then compare it to Psijic. Where you have an area you know to explore.

Mages Guild is long and boring. I know we have the daily quest, and that's nice, but it's 3 books. It still takes forever.

We've had a lot of QOL changes in the game, to make things less of a grind so we can play the vast amount of other content the game now offers.

I'd like to see Mages Guild get revisited and make it way less of a grind. I can get a character to 50 before I can do Mages Guild.

Even if it's just more xp per book. People who still want to finish them off can, but you need like 200 books to max it, which includes completing full collections. It's not engaging gameplay in the slightest.

Im on pc with addons now, but i spent years on xbox na levelling mages on various characters. I used website maps on my phone/laptop until id done it enough to remember locations. I also did it while doing skyshards on a new character using stam regen food plus regen gear so i could sprint through the areas. Adept rider helps alot in this regard now, if you plan your routes you can knock it all out in about a day 😁

I don't see them changing it now, especially with the crown store option for the various skill lines.

As a console player I have my go to guides and known routes. Usually I start in Stonefalls making my way across that zone and North into the Rift, complete that circle into Eastmarch and the. Back into Stonefalls down into Deshaan and Shadowfen. That’s somewhere around 140 of the 210 you need to hit level 10 and it takes about 4-5 hours plus you pick up all the skyshards on the path. If you have all the DLC you can then go to alternate locations to grab certain books to complete collections.

For example there are books in Vvardenfell, Summerset and Elsweyr that will complete whole chapters and reward bonus points. With those it saves a ton of time and you have to fill in about 3 more zones worth of books to complete the mages guild.

It levels up way faster than fighters guild I find which in order to power level is one of the worst grinds I can think of. The amount of kills you need to get to level 6 is half of what you need experience wise to get to level 8 which is half of what you need to get to 10.

I think they should just change up the Mage's Guild dailies. Bring it more in line with the Dark Brotherhood ones. The current gives a bit more exp and can be picked up at will rather than once, and add a new daily on Eyevea perhaps only obtainable if you spared Valsirenn.

Yes, MG dailies also level up the skill line - 10 points per daily.

While under L50, you'll only get public dungeons in your alliance. After L50, the other 10 dungeons (5 from each of your non-alliances) get added in to the mix. Once you've done one of the dungeons for the daily, they become quite quick and easy.

And they boost Bastion's rapport if you care about that.
PC NA(no Steam), PvE, mostly solo

I totally agree, I know youve used Psijic as an example of a good skill line, but for me both mages guild and psijic are very abstract things, I have never seen a single person do them without hate, all my friends give a big *sigh* before doing them.

If ZoS wants to keep them that way coz it takes time to change or because they want to sell their skill lines, so be it, but talking design, people simply have more fun doing stuff they like doing (See how fighters guild levels as you do literally anything you love doing? or your character xp, that is good design), mages guild has a leveling, for the sake of having a leveling, and nobody enjoys it.

Same is with dark brotherhood and thieves guild but those are more reasonable as the whole skill line is abstract, or at least not mixed with meta, when people have to jump around tamriel collecting portals which takes about 2-3 hours based on how many wayshrines you have discovered, just to get their meta build ready, they simply become annoyed and bored, and for good reason.

I'm gonna copy-paste here what I accidentally posted in a 2017 thread earlier (don't ask me how, I have no idea):

If you're in organized guild you can gather people who need to level MG, rotate the dailies and level it up real fast, getting 1 skill point and 1 shard along the way too which really helps with alts (especially if you powerlevel alts and they thus hit 50 with little skill points). I'll take MG over Psijic anytime.
