Flying Mounts

Has the topic come up before? I love to have one. I wonder if it's even possible, like is there a "ceiling" on zones like there is houses. Because of how incredibly bada$$ they would be, maybe they should be really hard to get. Like tied to number of consecutively logged on days, X number of months as premium player, etc.?

Is this a world of warcraft refugee player?

Normally I'm not one to shut down ideas but I'd be livid if they spent such a vast amount of resources reworking not only core systems but the landmasses themselves to accommodate flying mounts. There's a million and one things that should take priority over that and suggesting that it could potentially be a reward for ESO+ subscribers, a subscription that continues to hurt players like me who prefer to own the content we play more and more every year, is disgusting.

ZOS doesn't need suggestions on how to further monetize their game. They're already squeezing us for everything we got between the subscription, DLCs, cosmetics, gambling boxes and annual expansion packs that contain far less content than other game's expansion packs.

It comes up almost weekly. It will almost certainly never happen. It would instantly circumvent most Cyrodiil gameplay and a lot of the way the terrain is used to guide zone storylines. And "hovering" mounts that can fly but only a foot off the ground would be completely lame.

Why should he play WoW? All other big MMOs (like GW2, FF14 and soon Ashes of Creation) have flying too.

I would just like to point out that many overland areas use unjumpable cliffs to stop you from going into the exit of a public dungeon or delve.

    nope
group mount might be a thing since they tried implementing it but flying mounts never.

It could happen. The issue is how high the flying mounts would be able to be above the ground.

This is a very bad idea for this game. It will place higher demands on memory usage and will need to load additional cells and keep up with the view distance (which will prob be blurred anyways from very far away).

The idea itself could be fun and all but not for this game. This is something maybe for next time around to be built into the game.

That's awesome, when you feel like flying, I would suggest keep on playing those game.

As much as I would love to have flying mounts. They're just not right for this game. Funny how the topic came up in my guild just the other day.

This is something I hope they address when they re-architecture the game.

As well as a proper jumping mechanic.

But if they are re-building the game from up then flying mounts should be possible.

They're not rebuilding the game engine or the gameplay. Only the way the server runs the game because that's where the bottlenecks are in terms of performance.

Flying mounts in ESO is kind of pointless, zones is instanced so you still need an load screen to pass and its wayshrines all over, once your mount has decent stamina you can ride over world bosses.
I say traveling in ESO is way easier than in WOW, as in stuff like ESO surveys would be much more an pain in WOW.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

Everybody wants flying mounts but having played games like WoW where they are almost essential now I actually prefer ESO's approach to keeping everyone on the ground.

Really it's only bots that truely benefit from flying anyway.

    no they don't.

Never played WoW. I played EQ and then EQ2, when flying was introduced in EQ2 it was only a matter of time before they made it so you can fly in all zones. Worse thing they did was give the mounts stats that in order for you to get any bonus was to have it constantly equipped.
I love how ESO uses the mount system and never want to see flying or stats on a mount again.

I'd settle for a hovering mount. With jousting, something like the old arcade game.

But I think we are getting a card game.

Ferggitabout the flying mount. Jumping alone would be worth scrapping the entire game and starting over properly.

considering how many invisible walls this game has and how easy it is to hit them on foot, a flying mount just seems like it would be constantly getting stuck on a poorly built world.

Personally, i think they should be a LOT more creative with their mounts.

Vampires can turn into a swarm of bats
Werewolves get a special transformation and run at mount speed
Mages can open a portal and "teleport" places " (doing the actual travel as an elemental mote)
Low "flying" mounts that are still on the ground but the visual character and mount are up higher than the physical is
A wagon. seriously... who would love to drive various wagon types as their (possibly group-based) mount?

I know the world isn't build for legitimate flying mounts but there are a million very creative ways to get around that and they just... aren't being that creative with mounts.

    It's disappointing.

To the earlier discussion of making flying mounts"really hard to get" by tying it to days logged in, I'd agree with the player who suggested that would hardly be hard at all.

If you'd like a genuine example of making it hard to acquire a flying mount, look no further than Guild Wars 2's quest for acquiring a Skyscale mount: https://bit.ly/450Y5j5

Somehow I think that a flying carpet could possibly work as a mount as it would need to be rather close to the ground level and therefore could be viable in the game engine.

    TOTALLY AGREE!

People would like so many WoW things... Well, maybe let them then return to WoW?

    @sajackson is absolutely correct

Naw they should take wows good ideas and implement them in the game I love. Also console players can't play wow and that's a HUGE factor in game population for console players. Eso is the only good console mmo and so we want all the fun mmo stuff in THIS game. Also wow is soooo ugly graphically. Even if it was on console I couldn't get over the graphics.

But ya. I'd love flying and pet battles in eso. Just outright take the idea from wow and give it an elder scrolls twist.

I thought levitation was a thing prior to it being banned in the Third Era. Maybe limited duration levitation potions would be a compromise?

    YES! We need flying mounts!

Mainly, for Cyrodil, we need giant bees/wasps/hornets that buzz loudly when you are in large groups moving together. So loud that you can hear them coming from 500 meters away! :D:D:D

    Greetings,

We have closed this topic as it was originally created in January 2022. In many cases, it's better to create a new thread on a topic that you want to discuss as opposed to bumping one that is rather old.
