We have closed this thread as it went inactive almost a year ago. Old threads like this often contain information that is no longer accurate and may cause confusion on the forums.

If you feel that this subject requires further discussion, please feel free to create a new thread rather than responding to an old one such as this.

Opened old thread to continue the debate on spellcrafting which may be present in the next chapter this year.

On 27th January, we will maybe see more in depth the Breton race and spellcrafting which has been created by this powerful magical race in the past.

Tbh I just want a way to mix and match class skills.

I would kill to be able to mix a Necromancer and a Sorcerer to make a daedric Lich build.

Spellcrafting would essentially just end up with people using a handful of spells like they do with things like Potions, Food/Drinks, and Enchantments. And it wouldn't exist in the way people likely think it would. It would just be "put x y and z together to get this predetermined thing" as is the case with Enchanting and Alchemy. You wouldn't be able to create unique spells because that would be impossible to balance properly.

Or even worse, it would just be a handful of skills you collect components of to unlock, and they'll be skills that only one or two of which would be useful. People will just end up disappointed with the system and complain it's not what they wanted.

I'd rather them just introduce a new skill line in general.
Character List [RP and PvE]:
Stands-Against-Death: Argonian Magplar Healer - Crafter
Krisiel: Redguard Stamsorc DPS - Literally crazy Werewolf, no like legit insane. She nuts

Niralae Elsinal: Altmer Stamsorc DPS - Young Altmer with way too much Magicka
Sarah Lacroix: Breton Magsorc DPS - Fledgling Vampire who drinks too much water
Slondor: Nord Tankblade - TESified verson of Slenderman

I think the Spellcrafting skill line was confirmed - but will only be useable on the new, playable Sea Sload race.

I am pretty sure that spell crafting is one of those things they worked up and evaluated, then decided not to do. They never talk about it in any sort of positive manner.

Do you have something to say about spellcrafting? We have had multiple threads on the topic in the past few weeks speculating on this.

Interestingly, Zenimax has said they will add fewer systems to the game. I believe this has to do with performance issues since the addition of so many systems is part of the reason they say performance has declined. This makes it less likely spellcrafting will be added.

Someone else noted this in one of the other threads speculating on the future of the system.

Spellcrafting would be fairly straightforward to add at this point. It could be much like the enchanting system, where you combine different symbols to make a skill. Not too open ended, and the game would just set the skill cost and damage to the standard values.

Imagine something like Fire + Area + Instant, which would make a skill much like Flame Pulsar, without destruction passives or secondary effects, but also without requiring a specific weapon type, so dual daggers could be used on a Magicka AoE build. Or make it Fire + Area + Cast Time for a more powerful version. Maybe even Fire + Area + Channeled for something that continuously damages nearby enemies while you hold it (old Flames of Oblivion meets 360 degree jabs).

Or you could have Shock + Ranged + Instant and make a nice spammable for sorcerers who don't like hard casting crystal fragments. It wouldn't have the additional effects of skills like Force Pulse or Ele Weapon, but it would benefit more from their increased Shock Damage passive.

Maybe Heal + Melee + Instant results in a reliable self-heal that cannot go to an ally by mistake. While Heal + Ranged + Instant would be a smart heal like Breath of Life.

I say start simple with damage/healing skills, and maybe add some generic buffs/debuffs later. These should never be better than class/weapon skills, just useful in situations where a desired skill is not available, or supplement them.

It'd be great to see honestly, and a long time coming. But it's unlikely. I'm just hoping for something substantial.
As long as they don't announce they're gonna start selling NFT's, though, I'm sure it'll be fine whatever it ends up being.

Why not Scroll Crafting where you can create spells in scroll form that act like potions to use abilities from other classes?

Sounds like it would be a balancing headache.
Why not Scroll Crafting where you can create spells in scroll form that act like potions to use abilities from other classes?

This however sounds more feasible, but likely would entail another crafting station type, and gatherable materials. Not a problem if you have ESO+, but for those who don't, more inventory management issues (and somebody is bound to complain)

with the unified balance the devs did, its alot easier actually: cost=damage/heal+debuff/buff+1-6 target/area size, thered also likely be restrictions like 'not usable in pvp'

If Spellcrafting were to make its way in to live, one would think that they'd have worked continued to work on it since 2014. Or at least started working it again recently, for the past several years for optimization & stability. Balance would be a WIP that would involve player testing in PTS & beyond. I'd also think that it would be more limited in what it's capable of offering than what was shown in preview during QuakeCon 2014 for the sake of performance & stability. With this new chapter, we'll see a slew of QoL improvements in general and perhaps a new skill line. More likely see new companions with this new chapter, a slew of new antiquities and perhaps finally the release of shared mounting. Not mentioning the usual additions of Sets, Furnishings, Achievements, Styles, etc etc.

I rather have set crafting than spellcrafting personally but neither is never going to happen so I don't care too much. (Before someone asks what I meant by set crafting. I meant having the ability to actually take the effects of existing sets and combine them to make your own version of a set you want. Like if you like the 4th and 5th piece of a set but want the 2nd and 3rd piece of another set, combine them to make a custom one).

Just a reminder, that spellcrafting would not need a rework of game from base level. Just like Murkmire was designed and finished in 2014 and was gonna just be a new zone, they held on to it and reworked it as a Chapter.
Same with Spellcrafting.
The preview Nick Konkle showed us in 2014 was a walk thru, complete with art, animations, mechanics, etc.
This is already coded and in game.
Also, since the last thread, I did some digging and found the datamined files for Spellcrafting. ( If IRC, it was datamined from Murkmire Chapter).
OtoJWoV.png

And here is the walk thru by Konk.. Starts at 52:00
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3LkeMacg-b0&t=3164s

It also shows some of the creatable spells such as summon fire atronoch, barkskin, etc.

The system is done, it just needs ZoS to include it, maybe.
