Chapter pre-release

So it turns out I now want Blackwood and missed the 66% off sale....

I recall with previous chapters they did a wrap up. I e when you pre ordered sunmerset you got Morrowind.

Has that traditions continued?

I don't want to pay £30 purely to access 1 Mythic but if a pre order a new chapter and get it feels more worth it

Yes, pretty much it was always like this. You just have to wait until Thursday when the new Chapter can be pre-purchased.

The past practice has that all previous chapters revert to being a DLC when the next chapter is released. Morrowind did when Summerset was released, Summerset when Elsweyr was released, etc..

Feel foolish for missing the sale as don't really want a chapter, but if I'm buying one I might as well get new and old for same cost

I am pretty sure I remember it correctly. You have three options as far as I know:

1. Buy Blackwood no - not recommended.

2. Pre-purchase the upcoming Chapter on Thursday and get all the Chapters before on top of that, this will unlock immediately (maybe you need to purchase the [The Chapter name]Collection, the standard edition won’t cut it afaik).

3. Wait until the next Chapter gets released (June 2022) and then all of the previous Chapters become DLCs you can access via ESO Plus.

Even if they do not this time around, it will be part of eso+ when the chapter release

Chapters are demoted to DLCs once a new chapter is released, so there is only ever one chapter at a time that isn't available through ESO Plus.

However, any extra goodies that originally came with the chapter are not included with ESO Plus, so you'll still need to buy the Collector's Edition of the chapter DLC if you want its extra goodies-- and this can include things like Warden and Necromancer classes. But I think you will also get those extras when you buy the big Collector's Edition bundle of the new chapter that also includes the former chapters and all of their extra goodies.

Edit: Just to clarify, the italicized passage refers to buying individual DLCs from the Crown Store, not the new all-former-chapters-included bundle that you can't buy with Crowns.

There are two versions that both have CE editions of every chapter.

The Chapter Upgrade, and The Chapter Collection. If you want to own previous chapters, you need to get the Collection. The upgrade will ONLY have that singular chapter that it's upgrading you to.

So example right now there 4 versions for sale

Blackwood Collection
Blackwood Collector's Edition Collection

Blackwood Upgrade
Blackwood Collector's Edition Upgrade

The first two will also unlock ALL previous chapters and their big features as if you had purchased them new. The latter two will only give you Blackwood.

They will do the same exact thing with the new chapter come Thursday. Make sure you preorder the correct one for your needs

Do ALL versions of the new chapter preorder give you Blackwood?

I.e. I can buy the cheapest, £32 (ouch) basic upgrade preorder and I get blackwood. That right?

Thanks @SeaGtGruff I thought that was the case from the earlier messages here but in the Xbox store when I expanded on each to see what you get all showed blackreach.

Ouch if not, collectors upgrade is £40+
IIRC early chapters were £20 each.

Considering I do t want all the pets and crap this is becoming a bit of a nightmare.

As I mentioned above, if you want the previous chapters, you need the Collection. If not, the upgrade is sufficient. It’s as easy as that.

The difference between the Standard and the Collector‘s Edition Collection is just some virtual items.
