Monster Trophies

Not the regular drops but the achievement drop items. For Mudcrabs it would be the polished shell, the drop rates on a number of these items seems to be abysmal to nonexistent while others, such as the chattering skull or twitching draugr hand, drop at a normal rare rate. The unlocks are (I'm pretty sure) all dyes, and I do like having options unlocked.

I'm not saying they should be easy to get but I currently have 12,957.6 hours played on my main account here, and those adds are looking pretty bad... Either someone needs to go back and check if the drops are even ON the tables or something needs a bit of tweaking, imo.

I grinded all the trophies out last April, and I actually collect the chattering skulls and ectoplasmic discharges on one character for RP reasons. So I'm pretty acquainted with the monster trophy drops.

I feel like people will say RNG is RNG but I do think the chattering skulls for example are way more common than others. This is my current collection

    XW8Qki2.png

I sometimes actively grind the ectoplasm when I'm listening to a podcast or something. The 15 skulls I've gotten with not a single grind. It's like I always get one when I run FL, COH, the Deshaan public dungeon, etc.

I wonder if the drop rates are different, if it's mob specific (ex. FL skeletons have a higher chance), or if I just encounter skeletons way more than a lot of other mobs. Every DSA run I get the ''multi faceted eye.'' So that makes me think it's mob/zone specific.

The monster trophies do have a significantly higher drop rate in instanced content (such as dungeons, trials, and arenas), and some mobs show up much more in that content than they do elsewhere. The dwarven spider one would drop almost every single run of Halls of Fabrication for somebody... and the Multi-Faceted eye always seemed to drop for somebody in DSA.

Either way, the grind for those is real, and I have flashbacks whenever I see a Wamasu from the thousands (maybe more) I had to kill to get that trophy.

the drop rates do vary quite a bit, both with the mob type, and with the location

i finished a vast majority of these trophy achievements way back in the day (when the trophies were still tradeable consumables lol), there were only 2-3 achievement i didnt finish at the time

some of them are not too hard and get them fairly regularly (chattering skulls from skeletons, or the dwemer ones) to very uncommon ones (cats claw from tigers was very annoying for me, i had to spend 3 days grinding that out, to compare i looted 70 units of ivory before i got the trophy drop)

best suggestion for these is to go to an area with a large number of the specific enemy for the drop, then just farm them

from what ive seen drop rates seem to vary from upwards 20% to as low as 0.5%

The drop rates seem to be related to a specific combination of the enemy and the area they are found in.

    Check out this page:https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Online:Collectibles_Achievements
If you click on any of the listed achievements it will lead you to a page with the specific drop rates for each trophy, some do seem to be without verification though, so keep that in mind.

Here are all the pages, for convenience:
Edit: added the links for each of the achievement pages, under the spoiler.

You guys all claim it's grind grind grind, sorry but no way, I've killed enough of some of these to be declared a war criminal, been playing for years now and there is just no way anyone gets all these in a month, sorry I just flat out do not believe that claim.

I know where to farm them, the addon destinations even lets you mark collectables areas on the map, I've killed plenty, some of these do NOT drop

It literally is all grind. I spent 2 straight weeks grinding the atronachs in Reapers March for the frost and lightning atro trophy. Finished all the trophys after grinding that last half of them. The first half I collected over the course of my years playing the game without grinding for them.

they definitely should improve the drop rates for these things (they arent tradeable anymore, and their sell value is low like 150 gold or something, so they are at best vendor food)

if drop rates are increased, can just decrease the sell value (so as to prevent additional inflation problems)

The reason I don't believe it is because I have been grinding, literally for years and yeah not happening so of course I can't believe it when someone says they did it all in a month. I've killed thousands, gone to the spawn spots day after day grinding for hours on end, look how many hours I have played, that's no joke no exaggeration.

People got this done before when they were tradable, so they got it done without even hunting them, kind of doesn't count for this does it? how long has it been since you got it done on another char?

I did mine after they were tradable, so had to earn them all on that character. (The Flawless Tail Feather I got on 4 other characters before I got it on my main, I was sooooooo upset about that).

Some of them took a long time to get.

i used to use destinations and i can definitely say they were severely lacking on all of the possible areas that you could get a specific collectible (because technically every enemy of that specific type that drops loot has a chance to drop the trophy)

however what destinations also does not tell you is that the drop chance DOES vary depending on location

i can definitely confirm multifaceted eye drops much more commonly in the DSA than it does grinding overland (i used an area in stonefalls to grind that one out myself way before gear collection)

ive done DSA a lot lately and there are very few of those nix hounds that spawn in DSA (only 1 arena and there are like 5-10 max), farming overland i probably killed 100+ before getting the drop

i used the same source that @Mushroomancer listed in their post to try different farm locations when i was trying to complete the last 6-7 trophy drops i needed late last year

I absolutely understand your frustration and I do think that the drop rates are quite low. This might have been fine when the game first came out, but now that there is so much more in the game to work on, I think some drop rates should be reviewed.

Having said that, as someone trying to get as many achievements as possible, I decided to complete all of the trophy achievements around last October (2021). I had got several already from the previous 20 months or so of playing so I was filling gaps. I can absolutely assure you that they all drop - but it is a grind and there is RNG. As a DPS, I would grind a mob whilst waiting for a pledge dungeon to pop. The worst ones for me were where there are relatively few mobs (Wamasu, for example).

I genuinely didn't mean my comment as a veiled insult. All I was saying is that you're entitled to your opinion, which is, again, mostly based on anecdotal evidence, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the system is bugged, you could just be unlucky, or technically speaking, RNG is screwing you over.
Dismissing sources which list values for the drop rates, just because "trust me bro, that's not how it works" is just making a disservice to yourself primarily. I say this in the most genuine of ways, but of course you are free to take this as you want, [snip] You are free to contact support if you are adamant that the system is not working as intended.

Also, also, if you think that "anecdotal" is a big word that I am using to "win an argument", [snip], and the fact that you are seeing a winner-loser dichotomy out of a simple thread asking for a system that is reportedly working as intended to be reworked, when the game has far more pressing issues at hand that need to be resolved. What I am saying is that while you are free to vent, if you provide information which is, according to sources, not correct, maybe accept that you, as anyone else can be wrong about things. [snip].

I'm farming these on and off as I'm down to just one or two in each section (except the dwarven and atronach ones which i've completed) so can assure you that they do drop, it just takes a long time for some of them.

I have murdered more mammoths than I care to say but even though it hasn't dropped for me it has for one of my friends. I would love to see the rate they drop increased (here's looking at you mudcrabs) but will continue farming until they all drop on my main.

I have the Burning Daedroth Eye 👁 but not on my main, it dropped on one of my other characters in Imperial City

What you are getting is people telling you it isn't broken, myself included, because we literally did farm these. I farmed these within the last year, without being able to pass them on from character to character. So they are perfectly farmable if you are willing to actually put in time to farm them.

When your anecdotal evidence is "these never drop" and someone else's is "yes they do, I actually have one that dropped from a monster" then yeah well believe the dude that got one. Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence...

I don't have a zen inferno staff. Never seen one, they just don't drop for me. But I believe they do drop, because other people tell me they have them - my ring just sucks for zen inferno staffs I guess.

I can promise that these drop, all of them. I finished all my collection achievements right before the end of November after many weeks of grinding out the last 20 of them that I needed. It took a lot of long nights, some swearing, and some "drinks", but I got through it. I was chatting with my guild the whole time and even turned a few people on to chasing the achievement themselves or joining me on my loops. I compiled a lot of my information and am working on tuning it into a guide (since info out there is dated/not always the "best" spots). It always sorta bugged me when someone would join for 30 minutes and get the item almost right away lol, but RNG is RNG.

My two least favorite were the Razor-Edged Mandible and the Buzzing Spine. I swore off ever harming another one of these creatures (if I can help it) after the mass extinction I caused them.

Well I'm glad to see some people may get the drops, but sorry nearly 20k hours of gameplay and not getting them makes me think they're not.

    [snip]

As to some of the other comments shame you didn't read what I said, since the comments here mostly do nothing to disprove what I said. Only a very few refer to the present and may be believable. On the serious side, you want me to believe your version, show me your proof, So far nobody has

    Good bye

They all drop, it's just that some of them have really really low drop rates and some of them (buzzing spine for instance) have no decent farming spots.

Am slowly working my way through them and will get them all in the end.

I would be very interested in this guide you speak of...

I haven't started truly farming any of them, but I can already see it's going to be a massive pain. At this point, the only one my main has is the Dwemer one since there're only two things, but even that Gyro took forever to drop. Eventually I just need to go on an extinction crusade...

I'm someone else who completed them all last year - some of them I was convinced were bugged (Crypt Jar I'm looking at you!) but did drop eventually.

I will say tho that I've played since Console release, almost entirely on the one character, and had only completed 3 of the achievements through normal gameplay - and I'm not 100% sure I didnt grind a little for the atro one, I remember spending a bit of time killing them all in Reaper's March. That has included sporadic periods of grinding without much success, an hour or two here and there.

It wasn't until I started dedicating all my gametime to it (several hours a day) that I started getting the drops. I don't know that it made a difference but I did my best not to kill any other type of monster while I was farming too. Early on I killed a random mudcrab or something and got a trophy from it, then went forever before I could get the one I was after. I figured that it was worth specialising just in case that effected the drop chance.

Also I got really lucky with a few that would've been a pain to farm - I think I got the Wamasu one in about half hour!

The last 5 achievements I got between 21st February and 20th March, so a little shy of a month but I'd already had a lot of them done through normal gameplay. I'd guess that I had half to two thirds completed, plus the 3 achievements I'd already done. A month to complete everything seems like a stretch or some really awesome RNG. Based solely on my own experience, if I was to do it again from scratch I'd be surprised if it took less than 3 or 4 months. It's doable but it's not fun and definitely not a constructive use of that much game time!

I too would be very interested in this guide. The ones we have a quite outdated.
