Skyreach Hold Mantikora Boss, my point still stands

In the line of what Lyriss would say,

"What's your name again? Target practice?"

He hit you once, you didnt learn the 2nd time, 3rd is just too much. You still block with your face.
the video only shows that you are a bad player, if you want to play solo content, you should build, equipped and play accordingly and not as if you want to break the next record on a dps puppet
I think it's hilarious that three times you just tried to fire off a simple DPS rotation without any reflection on how you might approach the fight differently.
Yeah, people practice rotation on dummies and then they expect that enemy will be behave like dummy :D I destroyed this boss some time ago on stamina dk (when stamina dks were really poor dps), it was all about running and avoiding his attack.

This is the reason I never work with dummies, I learned a lot just by playing game and facing different eniemies and situations. You must to know your class and build to know exactly what to do in every situation. This is why often in PUG dungeons or trials I have good enoigh damage but also survability. I'm almost always on move, aware of soroundings, kiting bossess, etc. so when standing still players dies, I'm still alive.

We should have more challanges like this, then maybe players will learn how to fight :)

It's been years but the recent comments on my necroed thread weren't any different. Happy now?

My point years ago still stands. That Mantikora still has a one hit basic against DD builds, and don't even try blocking the charged if you're not a Tank. Bosses like this don't teach you much of anything. You either get one shot, or you keep dodging or maintain distance. The Boss' basic being a one hit is especially punishing to a fresher player. You can't see it coming and it's used randomly.

1-hit mechanics are cheap, and lazy design tbh.

I was 1 shot the other day in a Public dungeon (!!) because the telegraphed incoming damage was under water. Didn't see it. Next thing I know, I'm eating dirt. It was the giant whelk in Karnwasten.

So, I agree with you. I've seen it a lot in the last couple of years as well. I hope the trend dies.

Yeah, shame they closed that thread. And kinda pointless, cause nothing has changed since it was created.

But still, one-shot mechanic (or to be precise very hard heavy attack), telegraphed or not, is totally legit and obviously some enemies would have it (this Mantikora, Minotaurs in Falkreath, Spider in LoM, Wayrest I final boss, etc.).

As you said, only tank can take it and because we are talking about group content, your complain is futile.

And yes, this boss and this mechanic teaches: dodging, keeping distance, managing resources and above all (especially if you are new player), cooperation, because you need to look for other team mates. Or get gud and do it solo ^^

Rotations help, but building for survivability is key. I love the challenge of playing group content solo, and I run newbs through Skyreach for free just to show them it can be done solo. We are all grinding CP til we hit cap also. Charging newbs to do what I am also doing seems wrong imo.

4-person content has mechanics that will one-shot a non-tank? The audacity!

That reminds me I need to run my alts through the Skyreach trio. Those are some fun dungeons.

It's not even a mechanic. It's a basic ability. A one shot light attack.

I actually agree with you. One shots are legit mechanics when they have certain tricks to preventing aside from literally never let the boss touch you.

One shots that are telegraphed special moves can be blocked, dodged, interrupted, or puzzled out to be avoided. Ones that are just light attacks, your only choice is to throw some dots/aoes and then run 🏃‍♂️ as fast as you can. And not just kiting a particular move, like don't let them hit you at all.

I take the same issue with the bleed from the dragons. Even if you dodge the bite the dragon can just keep doing it as the bleed is attached to a basic attack.

These kinds of devastating damage moves should really be telegraphed moves that are spaced out instead of a basic attack. It's only done to force a tank in content that doesn't even have a queue or any likelihood you'd have one on hand.

I understand it in trials and dungeons, but not stuff people aren't likely to have groups with particular makeups.
