I have fished off and on but recently started to get a little serious with it. I’ve cleared AD zones and have a couple questions.

First, I know to use the right bait for the water I’m fishing but there is more than 1 bait for each type of water. Are any of the baits better than the other?

Second, some of the fishing holes are pretty well hidden. Do those offer a better result?

Any help appreciated.

Bait is bait, doesn't matter which of the two you use for the type of hole you are fishing.

And a hole is a hole is a hole, they all contain fish.

There are CP passives that help as csn the Arteum Pickled Fish Bowl recipe (got through fishing on Arteum).

Other than that fishing with a friend can help but will empty the fishing holes quicker

I'm certainly no expert, but as far as i'm aware, YES certain bait-types are most definitely better...depending upon the water locale. Some of them fairly obvious, like "lake" bait for lakes or whatever.

i wish , cuz that would make Fishing soooooo much more fun & interesting imo

However, i don't think they are coded that way. At least, not that i've personally noticed ( i have terrible "luck" with RNG though lol ) . And again: i'm no expert, so i went ahead and searched these forums and found the following 2 guides for you... https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/340663/fishermans-friend-eso-fishing-guides

hmm, i was under the impression that bait types DID matter , depending upon location, since i think certain FISH can only 'bite' the type of bait they like, no?

Actually been talking about fishing with a guildie tonight. I did it before CP2.0 with fish bowl and she's just done it with the new CP too, it's ridiculously fast now compared to how long it took me.

Only advise I can give really is that Coldharbour is soul-destoying - either save it til last so that once it's done you're done, or do it early so everywhere else will feel easy :joy:

Yes I have both the cp slotted and plenty of the fish bowl.

I had a guildie tell me that fish roe was better than crawlers for foul fishing because it is more rare, but I have never seen anything about that posted here or anywhere else.

Good to know that is not the case. I have plenty of crawlers.

They meant that there isn't any difference between the two baits that are favored for a particular water type.

Yeah, I always try to use up the kind of bait I "catch" first, just to get rid of it. I have found no difference in effectiveness using it though.

Thank you, yes that is exactly what I meant. And for Clockwork City all baits are as good as each other as none are "oily" bait

    Done Master Angler 4 times.

The food and CP passive make a huge difference. My last run I think I caught less then 4k fish to complete it. My first was over 7k.

Out of the way holes don't make a difference to your chances but it can pay to fish them out since some zones there are only 4-5 holes for a water type and only 2 may be up at once.

Cold Harbor only has foul fish so ring can cause trouble there.

Personally I never had much trouble with it. I always get stuck on some random water type in some random place I wouldn't expect to have trouble.

Plus cold harbor water is a shiny blue color that makes it hard to see the fishing spots. You have to swim around hoping to catch them on your cursor. I did finish it but the last few fish took some time.

This is bang on. I have 7 master anglers because, well, actually there is no good reason. I’m on PS, and originally there was no special food and no passives/CP, and the water type you basically had to guess which you thought it was. Only benefit you could get was fishing with a mate but that dried up the holes faster, which is not good in places like Alik’r when you need the second pesky blue foul water fish and there are hardly any fishing holes.

Most recent master anglers I have done reduced time and bait by >60%. Best advice, if you are ‘stuck’ in a zone with one that just won’t drop for 30 minutes, move on and come back later. I found very often that the hard to get one would drop very quickly when returning.

Yes, each time you fish you have an chance of getting an random rare fish of the type of water, its typicaly 3 type of water so you need to catch 4 unique fish in each. Now in coldharbor you need to catch 12 unique so rnd is much harder if unlucky.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

    Why is coldharbor so bad?

All the spots are foul water, so getting the last fish you need might be a challenge.

    Same with IC
