Recent banwave seems to have again hit innocent accounts

Greetings. Recently there has been a banwave against accounts deemed to have changed client code. This includes mine. I have only used minion add-ons and have not edited client code in any way.

As can be seen e.g. here https://www.reddit.com/r/elderscrollsonline/comments/rbbspy/discussion_account_suspended_for_no_reason/ I am not the only one in this situation.

Please consider reviewing the bans again or helping the community understand what parts of add-ons are triggering this.

It is extremely frustrating to suddenly lose access to the eso account and be accused of cheating for no discernible reason. Especially when paying for ESO+ and having bought latest chapter.

Is it suspended or completely banned? I would assume suspended accounts are being blocked on a temporary basis while they clear out some details with those specific customers.

Gods. Now I'm afraid to even log in until they fix this. I use like a dozen addons from Minion and without knowing if one of them is causing the problem it doesn't seem safe. Good luck, I hope they figure it out and unban everyone soon.

Looking looks like 72 hours, but still would be concerned because they wouldn't know why assuming innocent

Yes, is 72 hours. Did absolutely nothing except run with add-ons - the one having separate executable is something I always updated manually, and not via executable (TTC).

Not comfortable having strike against my account for no reason (msg said it can be converted to permanent ban later).

Not comfortable continuing to play, not knowing what I did, meaning same thing can happen again.

Lots of crickets from support.

I am assuming there are some knowledgeable people on these forums that could help figure this thing out (if it is indeed a false flag), but for that they would need to know exactly which addons and executables you use when playing ESO.

Also, we could narrow the list of suspect addons by using the elimination method by comparing to other players who use same addons but didn't get banned.

I use

Azurah, Dustman, LostTreasure, PersonalAssistant, TTC, ThiefTools, TraitBuddy, VotansMiniMap
(including all their dependencies).

I did NOT get banned.

As someone who got hit (wrongfully) in the last banwave which affected traders, I must say that I remain somewhat sceptical towards this wave as well. It’s positive to see that ZOS are being a bit more upfront this time, and I hope their CS prioritise these cases, so that the people affected don’t feel like they are given a cold shoulder like last time. I always assume that people are innocent until proven guilty, and with so many people coming forward claiming to only use addons via Minion, I can’t help but think that this is yet another case of some addon triggering their anti-cheat detection system.

I would say basically anything in ESOUI is safe to use (however that's only my personal opinion), I would think the zos devs there and the very active community managers would take action immediatly if an addon would use a known API exploit. On that regard Addons use API that ZOS has provided. It's basically set of rules by ZOS what extra info/functions you can show on the client.

Only grey area third party addon I can think of is ReShade, but I doubt the ban wave does have anything to do with it.

When you're using exploits and cheats you know you're doing something that you shouldn't be doing and you should be prepare to get banned.

If there's an exception to this I would hope ZOS would inform their customers that they are doing something by mistake that they should not be doing. So ZOS please communicate with your player base to prevent misinformation and rumours.


I have 134 addon/libs under Addon folder and I use older version of reshade - and I didn't get banned.

Looks like their anticheat software was updated and delivering again false positives.....

Anything could trigger this, even an undetected zero-day worm interacting with binaries in memory,
however if something happens, there is a solid reason to check what had changed right before the incidents.
I seriously doubt all suspended players had installed or upgraded theirs PCs/addons, and the biggest change was patch 7.2.7
Still, listing the OS version (is that Win10 or Win11?), Reshade usage, and the actual addons of suspended account could help localizing what could trigger (false) ant-cheat positive.
This was hardly TTC otherwise the scale of issue could be much greater.
I hope the issue would be resolved by Zenimax promptly.

I used lot of addons but very little of those listed by OP. So, since I'm in game right now without troubles, I can tell you what ones I have. It will help eliminating those from your list:

At least for those, you're safe, because am not banned and use them.

I know this will get locked, but ZOS it seems the new updates to Minion and Reshade are tripping the client has safety feature, based on playing internet detective last night for a reddit friend. They recently as in last week, updated reshade and started using minion to manage their addons and received a 72 hour ban. So as you read/lock this for not discussing actions on accounts, please look at those two items together or separate, as the cause for people reporting the same things over here, reddit, Twitter, and multiple discords. New Minion? The Minion addon installer that I have is 3.0.7 and that was from 2018. Website says it is the same version. What exactly are people downloading that is newer than that?

Reshade is definitely "use at your own risk" and I could certainly see that causing problems with anti-cheat detection.

As this is a "modifying the client" issue, I would not expect an addon to be able to do that. However, if ZOS has a memory management issue (for example) in how they run addons, that could potentially trigger something that detects changes to the client while it is running. If that is the case, certain addons might trigger it, but would not be the root cause of it. All speculation, of course.

It is easier for me to think updated anti-cheat gives false positive due to anti-virus, compared to the "officially approved" addons on esoui.

The bigger problem with all this is that at least one player has had their account permanently deactivated meaning they can't actually submit tickets asking to appeal. They've posted proof on reddit that none of their tickets are going through. [snip]

False positive bans happen, they're annoying, but it can be understandable. What's not is how damn difficult it is for some people to even get a human to look at their account to appeal it.

I play on xbox, it would be nice to have the add ons that pc can get, but at the same time id be too afraid to run them. Im sure there are accounts banned and suspended that are justified but it certainly seems that there may have been some mistakes. It would be a shame for a perm. Ban to happen by mistake.

Thank you for the replies! Since I'm considering going addon-less, could someone from console please mention how difficult trials are for them? I'm thinking that e.g. oneshot alerts missing means that one has to pay attention to environmental cues, and I'm trying to determine how easy that is to do.
