Make harder content..

Every now and then there will be players ranting about how easy the game is and how easily they can clear the hard stuff with their MeTa GeAr and multiple AddOnS.

More so this game also offers more min maxing (looking at perfected stat) for completing harder content helping these player to squeeze each and every point of resource, overall making game easier to the point where they started implementing One shot to force mechanic. (Which obviosly the rest of player base suffers).

Lets take example from something like Dark souls. Despite being hard to some ,players there customize their difficulty by gear or play style and not go around and complain. want game to be hard? then go kill midir with broken sword..(pretty sure someone wouldve done this also)

I mean if they really want challenge then why go with comfort "meta stuff and addons" that make the game easy.
Every game has it's flavor with regards to difficulty and Not everyone wants sweaty hardcore contents ( already visible with all the vet delc dungeons and trials.)

there's like three plotlines here & i'm not sure which one to follow...
are you saying "meta bad", "if you want difficulty take your gear off", or "addons bad"?

The problem here is that most players in an MMO will go the easy route and therefore min-max to make content as trivial as possible. Otherwise others that use that playstyle will clearly have an advantage and that doesn't go hand in hand with the own ego.

Just look at WoW classic i.e. The two years it lasted people min-maxed that game to a point that it was everything but fun. There were hardly any groups that completed the final raid without worldbuffs intentionally but most of the players claimed that content was to easy. Sure, mechanics were known upfront, gearing choice was know before the game even re-released and such thing, but not utilizing those simplifying things will set you on a disadvantage to others. People just play the game for the wrong reasons. They don't want to emerse with the lore and dive into the world but they want to compete and be better at things others are good at.

For a single player game you are basically not forced by the "community" to play hyper-competitive. Sure, you may do some no-death or speed-runs and compare your achievements with others, but at the end there is only one player affecting that game. MMOs are different here. Players will constantly challenge others to prove their standing in the community they feel the urge to be part of. In ESO this for the most parts is DPS in PvP surviving your opponent, which is also way easier if you deal large amounts of damage and thus pressure you opponent into defense. DPS in the end always wins in a DPS focused game.

In the end, most "casual" players who try to play the game for the lore and not to compete with others suddenly are confronted with hyper-competitive players that do not understand the needs and wants of others. The latter ones are usually self-focused to a point that they simply do not care about others. Combine that and you have the current rush-mentality. The main excuse for doing so is often: "Because others do it as well" which just proves that they just follow the same competitive gamestyle others use. Then those players will hint that casuals do no damage, which is for the most parts true as they are not really forced to do so either by the non-DLC overland content we have. That content, especially in the veteran zones, used to be way, way harder. Pulling 2-3 mobs at the same time were usually a death-penalty in the early game and you either had to rely on group-play or on careful playstyle and gearing decisions.

Plenty of people complain that overland content is to easy but those players usually wear (very) good gear, have lots of CPs and know about the combat mechanics, but how many of them have actually played on a fresh account without any of that stuff? Content there is much more challenging, especially if you are solo playing and do not interact with others much. Having an army of alt characters doesn't really compare to the experience you might make on a fresh account without the help of your main account or any other players. Try to do some kind of ironmen challenge where you are allowed to only wear white gear, no sets and stuff. I bet that game now will all of a sudden be way more challenging. The core point here is, we players having tons of CPs and access to good gear blast through content and thus demand tougher content does not really align with the playstyle of players that do not put that much time and effort into this game. Sure, we see that "low DPS" in random groups every day and thus demand that content needs to be thoughen up so that those players are forced to become better, but in the end, those players either do not have to spend that much time or don't want to theorycraft the hell out of their toon and simply have a good time in ESO. If especially the old base content is toughen up to be challenging for veteran players, new players hardly will have a chance and will leave that game rather quickly.

There is an entire sticky thread on harder content (overland and otherwise) at the top of the forum page:

This is called "Stream of Consciousness" ;)

Btw. the most funny thing are people complaining about too easy content without defining what they consider as hard. For many, including me, last Vateshran boss is relatively challenging but with every run, it gets easier - could you imagine outcry on this forum when delve bosses would be turning into equivalent of Maebroogha the Void Lich? XD

Naked vMA runs are a thing.

At a certain point, you know how to play ESO well enough that overland content isn't really a challenge even if you play in the buff, class skills only.

No offense, but ESO's overland content is no Dark Souls.

Not that we don't do that already doing undergeared runs (naked VMA, broom and bucket, just random sets in general etc) and stuff, for a lot of people it's Inventory problems coming with that, as most "endgame" players despite the role have full inventories of stuff they're using on a constant basis.

Also stripping gear and cp would sound ok with single player games but in a mmo stripping yourself of a progress feels fells really off to me at least. It's not even about gear or cp, rolling new character barefist is still killing with decent speeds, it's all about understanding the game which makes content trivial.
